D550/VT20/ST30/LED - Confused on which one to buy ?(<80k)

One shop which was confirming price from yesterday have contacted me and offered the following

ST30 50" for 91K
VT20 50" for 94K


guys need input on ST30 for 91K ...

compared to viveks current standing offer , ie 95K . I am planning to call viveks again and tell them this shop is offering me 91K ...

These backboneless guys are not showing confidence in shipping a tv for 200kms. unfortunate. what the use of golden quadilateral, east west corridor etc. Shame. we are still centuries behind in terms of service.

Spoken to a contact in chennai and given this price too. he said he would check with his salem counterparts and let me know on the possible rate. Waiting for his call. let me see what happens.

Also UT30 is delayed may be to promote ST30. UT30 was to be avalable for Deewali but from sources heard that they want to delay it. may be too many ST30 in stock .

Just now heard from my friend that the newly imposed entertainment tax of 14% by Jayalalitha covers even TV`s too. I think thats why the prices are high.. and infact for 75K + 14% = 81K approx .

Its part of panasonics way of pricing too..

anyway within few days the last remaining piece of VT20 will be sold and ST30 is the only option.. If i can get any better offer than the current last quote of 91K for ST30 , i would be delighted..

totally agree, correct me if i am wrong----> May be the distributors here in india actually give dealers huge discounts under "bulk order scheme", and dealers within city have an agreement within themselves or the distributor not to quote below a certain price.There is indeed a "price fixing" that goes on here in india. Mega stores can order in more bulk so stores like Chroma can offer a much better deal as they profit by selling in huge numbers.

The recent example of price fixing here in chandigarh----no samsung dealer ( i went to almost all of them) is ready to give samsung 51D550 below 67K, no matter how hard you bargain they just wont listen, one dealer even said to me " that u will not get this TV below this price in whole chandigarh" , and by seeing their attitude it became obvious to me of their whole game of fixing the prices and deny better prices to the customer.

Lucky you are getting D550 for 67K , Here is its around 75K

I think companies like panasonic should go DELL(Previous) way of direct dealing. online purchase , no middle man ..

People spending small amounts will try online sites , but >50K or 1L , Indians wont trust online buying.. they like face to face bargain and promises..hyeah: , Thats one reason why dell laptops were so popular among college students , tech guys , but not for general public. they went for acer , HP etc..

Lets hope not! Even if we have to pay a little more.
This means a lot of people will loose jobs with lots of small time players shutting shop...and will help the cause of rich getting richer and poor poorer! This is becoming a trend. Where bigger companies become bigger and bigger and so big that eventually one labels them, 'Too Big To Fail'....not just banks, corporates too! This also gives them excessive monopoly and speculative power.
More like, short term benefits vs long term evils.

I have to disagree with this. Reason is, trust.
We dont trust online buyers as we dont want to risk our money on an entrepreneur who would more likely be a fraud than one living straightforward life. Make no mistake, I know there are honest entrepreneurs out there in India. But how do we differentiate as consumers?
If instead a brand like amazon who is so well known for Online consumer service, steps in, I will probably explore it. But i will be insulted for being in India, we shd have an Indian company who should step in and create an Image of trust. We lack sense of pride and nuthing much really depends on Image!! It maybe does, but to a small extend, as we dont have that much of a choice really to go to one who has a superior image, since money is easy to make for these entrepreneurs here where consumers are easy to find.

In the above review mentioned by u, Chad has compared ST30 with VT25. Are VT25 and VT20 same ?

Also, he has too given that if one is concerned about 3D and rising black, the choice is simple---ST30.

I also consider ST30 better but is it worth the extra money ?

VT20 as BLASTO said is very similar(even better than) to ST30 and best part is it is 25K-30K lesser than ST30. So on VFM basis VT20 is a good choice if you happen to get hold of one, as stock everywhere are vanishing. Read this thread and my search to get a VT20 in tamil nadu.

ST30 - lesser crosstalk in 3D , no floating blacks , same filter as VT20 , one 3D glass lesser than VT20 , white peak is twice higher than VT20
But it has fluctuating Brightness (but fixed i suppose)


If you want to save 25K and get something like Bluray player or extra pair glasses , Get VT20 .

since i couldnt find a VT20 for around 75K , I went for ST30. I am not sure whether its worth the extra money , as i myself going to first time own a plasma and i am moving from a 2007 LCD (720p) TV. So anything will look awesome for me..
