Hello All,
I am shifting to new place in few weeks and planning to install a home theater, which would give a decent sound output - Would need your suggestions/ advice on the same:

Let me give some details about the dimension of the room and electronic items to be placed:
150 sq feet area (10x15)
TV to be placed on the closer side of the wall i.e. 10 feet width
Samsung LED TV 5 series
Videocon D2H - HD

My queries:
Currently electrician has made the provision for speaker wires but those are low quality ones, which are available at the electrician shop. I have read across forum that wire also plays an important role in good quality music:
Or will the current wire be fine to attach to the speakers?
if not, What should be the gauge of wire? 16 gauge should be enough for my room to get a good music or it should be 14 gauge?
How much length wire would I require? and where should I buy it from and any specific brand?

Which brand music system should I opt for ?
My budget is between 10k-25k?
I did my search and found below on snapdeal. How is this? any other brand in this budget
Yamaha YHT-196 Hometheater Package - Buy Online @ Rs.23910/- | Snapdeal
I have seen some tower speakers in this budget at croma and ezone, how are those ones?

I play music/ movies through TV from my pen drive. I don't ever use cd's. Will it really require Blue ray player to play it for good music output?

Answers to above question would help me do setup for my other room.
Thanks in Advance!!!

I am a bit confused. Do you need a Home Theater or just looking for something to play music? If music is your only choice, then you can go for stereo amp + bookshelf speakers which will be within your budget of 25K.

And for speaker wires you can check this - Speaker Cable

Not the bookshelf speakers. Music system similar to yrt kind of, the link i have given.
It would be great, if you could let me know on my other questions. Would be able to get better understanding of building a music system

It's almost not normal to find audio grade wires in a electrical shop. Good speaker cables could be obtained from a decent electronics or audio hi-fi shop. I think HTiBs are supplied with speaker cables.

DAC wire from Hifimart is a good choice I guess. 16 awg is enough for Yamaha YHT 196 and the likes. Length of wire depends on your requirement and no guesses could be made.

You have to measure the distance between the speakers and receiver. If you are running speaker wire for longer lengths, thicker wire wouldn't hurt.

Assume you need 6 metres of wire, buy 7 mtrs or more. If the wire is longer, you can cut it short, but if the wire is shorter than your requirement, it's messed up.

Any other brand would you suggest that would fit my budget of 25k and requirement. This Yahmaha model comes with an av receiver, what is that? Is it similar to amplifier?
I am planning for videocon hd connection, will it support hdmi?
I m not really keen on spending for BD player, if it is absolutely required then i would.

It is. Amp, pre-amp, DAC handling both audio and video. It has built in FM it seems. All you need to do is connect a source (D2H, Blu-ray, DVD etc) and TV. Use decent speaker wires and inter-connect cables (RCA, HDMI etc)

It does. Three hdmi in and one out. (Yamaha YHT 196 seems good enough. Go for it then)

@destructor... like RMCWS suggested, if you want to listen to music only, the you can opt for 2 channel setup with stereo amplifier. But if you intend to watch movies as well then 5.1 will be required.

The reason is... music is recorded in 2 channels only. So for music, even if you setup 5.1, output will always be coming from front 2 speakers and the subwoofer.
In case of movies, it is recorded typically in 5.1 channel (most of the movies these days). So here 5.1 setup will be a pleasure for the ears.

Now, considering your budget, if you still want to go for 5.1, I think YHT 196 will be a better bet. In these kind of HTIB setups, you will be having options for connecting your PC, STB, Media Player, Blu ray player (and so on) via HDMI. In case of blu ray home theater systems from other manufacturer you won't be having that kind of flexibility.

Hello all....i have been searching 196 and 298 around mumbai suburb in croma, reliance , ezone, the shop - near juhu. Some say both model are discontinued, croma do not have it in stock. Could you guys let me know, whr can i find it in Mumbai.

I know it is available online. It is listed on snap deal as well but i wanted to check it first before i could decide to buy it.
Any help guys?

Hello guys.....i have got yht 299 from reliance digital and it has been installed now, since thr was an issue on reliance side with my other electronic purchase....demo didnt happen for the HTS, later i set it my self, checking each wire being put in correct socket for the speakers and used YPOA microphone to do the auto speaker adjustment.
Wanted to know, if i need to do any more adjustments to the setup of av receiver to get more better sound output?
I havent toch the equilizer, could you guys assist me on it?
Also, what is the ideal(for me it is not high volume)Level volume at which HTS be adjusted - while i listen to music on 5.1 channel, volume required is -36 to 44 db, is this fine for the level of volume preference i have?, i think, i have to increase the volume level to high on AV to get the audible sound. What you guys think?

YPAO will not always give you best results. Try to tweak and see where it goes. This is a very good article to get you started.

Hello all- is there any device which will allow me to connect it to the av receiver htr 30667 USB/iphone slot and stream music from my iphone or ipad wireless?

You can use Bluetooth Receiver from Belkin or Logitech, then use your mobile phone which is blutooth enabled with A2DP capability to stream music.

I am using one from Marantz, because my AVR is of Marantz make and has special socket for connection.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
