Depreciated Buyback - Samsung Plasma

I booked 51E470 only to upgrade to 51E490 since 470 was simply not available in pune. I was also not interested in 3D. Anyway looking to monetise my free 3D blu-rayplayer when I get it :)

Reviving an old thread, i am in a same position now where, there is some issue with the PCB and they do not have the part, due to this the lan and usb ports are not working and tomorrow more issues can come up, they are offering buy back option. The service engineer came to house, took pics of the tv and remote, put some cello tape at the back where the model no and other details were the black sticker and also took a photo of the same. He fill the forms and took id and invoice proof. Said it will take 15 working days, roughly 3 weeks to process the same. I wanted to know what exactly will happen after 3 weeks, as the service engineer said that he would not visit again, some pickup guys will come in a truck they would just take the set give the cheque.

If someone who has gone through the same can elaborate what exactly will happen and who are these guys that would come. As its a bit confusing what is going to happen.

I also asked the service engineer what they will do with the set , they will crush and break it post which it will go in ewaste as per samsung policy. Is that what actually happens. Any one has experiences to share of what exactly happens when they come to give the cheque and post it, would be helpful so i can prepare myself.

@psychotropic any update guys, any inputs from anyone who has gone ahead with this process earlier would help, as currently i am not aware of how things would happen and want to be well prepared knowing all pros and cons and if anything i have to watch out for.

in my case exactly same thing happened as you have described...
Only thing is no one from samsung was able to tell me the exact amount they will offer.

RANT alert:
Then they wait for 2 months to make sure the LCD purchase date passes one more year and apply the deprecation for that as well.
No matter how much I argued to calculate the depreciation till the date on which I had raised your request, they simply refused.

Other then that, they gave me the cheque and picked up the TV on the same day.

Thanks for the update push, the people who came to pick up the tv, was it the pickup and delivery guys or the engineer from Samsung. Did they test or check the tv before picking up.

Thanks @Push, all the inputs really helped, let's see what happens will get to know in 3 to 4 weeks time hopefully as they are trying to get approval for the depreciation cost, post which they would start preparing the cheque.

In case of Sony, they give the discount ahead - ie there is an option to buy the TV at a specified discount from the Service center. But they require full payment through DD.

Well, the approval process for the depreciation is over and Samsung head office has approved 33% depreciation for my tv. Now the cheque preparation starts. It will take 15 working days so i would hopefully get it in 2nd week of November.

Hi all,
Thanks for all your inputs and help. The Samsung guys dropped in on Friday evening, they picked the TV and handed me over the cheque for 1 Lakh.
Went shopping on Saturday and bought a new Samsung TV.

Finally the 45 days ordeal ended.

hi Dushie..can relate to the feeling of relief you would have got.....i have also undergone the pain of a refund from panny 50VT20...took approx 4 months..but did end up buying 65VT30...experience been great so far...which one did you buy...

I agree, actually the refund process and the way they handled post escalation made me buy Samsung again. For an OOW set which was turning 3 years old, i got a pretty fair deal.

Bought their flagship Plasma model 64" F8500 . As they no longer manufacture the 58" model and the next size was 64" . Was not interested in going for the 55".

Thinking of buying extended warranty also which would cost 13k and i would have peace of mind for 4 years. Trying to get more details and find out what is covered and what is not as i feel before investing i would want to know that. What difference would be the approach for an OOW customer and extended warranty customer.
