DIY: Pass F5 turbo v2 initiated

From that website, it looks like it is temperature protection, does it do soft start also (delaying the input power up)? Sorry for this basic question.
This is important question and not basic. Because most of us including me, are first time builders and unaware how much heat it produces and how individual heatsink will behave. So better to start with lower bias and all protection in place.

Yes that given board does soft start as well as temperature protection with 75 deg C thermostat.

I prefer the original caps even though it costs a little more, so yes, I am interested.
If we are getting it from Mouser, we can as well get Panasonic or Nichicon? I think customs duty will push the cost up.

Thanks

I can get original CORNELL DUBILIER 10000uf 50v at Rs 150.Let me know if anyone interested. Minimum quantity is 150 to get this price SLPX103M050E7P3 Cornell Dubilier | Mouser

Hi Balaji,
Panasonic would cost us min 250/cap.The price for Cornell-Dubilier is inclusive of all duties and shipping.

Then I think it is very good price. I am interested in this cap and hope others to join in to so as to pull off this cost.

Thanks

sachin & om,

Do you feel comfortable using 8 X 10000 Caps per channel. I saw andrews post on diyaudio mentioning for Class A little more may be better. But Per Nelson Pass this must be enough. But may be little more of capacitance should not hurt right.

Your opinions welcome.

Thanks

We got each toroidal 2X(~6A/secondary). Actual discharge current from single fully charged 10,000F should be ~>3A. So 4 in one rail /ch should be sufficient. This is not less for .8A bias current per MOSFET (Total 1.6A/rail).

More is better because while you are discharging cap same time you are charging it too. So ripple will be less when they hold same voltage during large current. Now we are using 2 sets of filter not single set for both. So that is 2 X (8X 10000F) total 16. So IMO its okay but not less.

Hi Pandu,
I think 16X10000 uf would be ok. I am also negotiating price with supplier for 15000uf 50V Cornell Dubilier http://in.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...ju//A3nKfvY8iUlPDfquff514h1riip4apCmY3Dk3nZf8
I should get a price quote tomorrow.I will update once I get the final price of both the caps.

Regards,
Sachin

Very good price. Take a look from Newark - may get a good deal. Not sure about shipping/customs.

Om,

Per Nelson pass, If you have good heatsinking, we can increase the bias upto 1 amp or may be 1.5 amp.

Including Caps all the parts of the amp need to handle the current. We need to make sure that caps have enough capacity. Cost wise 10000mf to 15000mf there is not much of a difference.

My thoughts.

Thanks
Pandu

I have purchased 4 10000 mfd ones 10 years back for 200 rupees each. They won't fin in this PCB they are usually 4 to 5 cm in diameter as they are mostly available for higher voltages 100 to 220 v. For the pass 35 v and over will be fine, 50v will be the best bet IMHO.

yes Alcon caps are very good. They are made in Nashik, but very big in size, cost is also high.I will check once again on Sunday.

Apart from high cost, I found they are available for industrial use >100V rating with screw-in terminals. We need snap-in type terminals (10mm lead space).

Alcon caps are very good I did a research on it. They are using German dielectric and all.
Only thing is its price and bit big in size and screw-in like terminal but i have inspected those caps its rock solid build. In a shop nearby my area i saw alcon 22000uF 40V and 15000uF 40V. This saturday i am going to buy 22000uF x 8 of them for my Jean Hiraga - Le Monstre Class A 8+8W Amplifier build. I shall try to post its images.

Another cap which can be considered is from the brand SAMWHA, I think its korean or taiwanese.
Heard that Norge Amps are using this brands caps but not sure. This brand have snap in type 15000uF 63V caps etc. Those will be available locally but need to do a research on its quality before buying.

@kroyin, if I remember correctly then you already had some experience with this. Can you please share it?

Yes I saw it inside Norge amp, even small version 4700uF is used by me in my 40+40W amp. I did not find any issue. But kroyin noticed difference within power cap changes in his previous F5 build.
