experience with flipkart and other online sellers

When a customer makes payment, he generally leaves the seller's website and enters the payment gateway provider's system for the duration of the time he makes payment.
This is the problem. Shopping on European/American sites with my British debit card, it is a seamless process where the payment is a part of the seller's check-out process ...just like buying in a shop!

However on my objection and on my request to escalate the matter, within moments ,I was told categorically that ,my blu ray would've despatched at the pre order price and no escalated price to be paid.

I have been buying lots of diff items thru flipkart ,and would like to add that delivery is really very good, prices are competitive ,but ,flipkart need to mention clearly their policies on imp issues

Good to know that.

In fact encouraged by your experience sent them a mail to reconsider the issue. The sent me a very polite reply but essentially refused to send me the blu ray at the original price. So all I can say now is you were lucky and I was not :(
But I guess now I have to leave the matter as it is and move on.

Surprised that flipkart has inconsistencies in their policy matters !

Its funny that you say that because they insisted its against their company policy. I have removed the line with my name and replaced the customer support representatives name by XXX - rest is their email verbatim.

Here is what they wrote to me :

I am sure they have given you good service, but confirming an order and then retracting on it - I wouldn't call that professional. When I say nascent, I mean the nacent stage of e-commerce in India i.e. ratio of online transactions to the offline ones in India is still quite low compared to the developed world.

I have no bones to pick with flipkart, but once they canceled the order the 'order' section of my account said - order canceled money refunded! - it was a cod transaction :)

I ordered 4 CD's ,2 were overpriced (corrected and then refunded part and part kept in "wallet" ) one was a wrong CD and the other was "order cancelled" and the money credited to my CC account . The wrong CD was sent back and then ,again, sent to me as the "correct" one !Finally, they have cancelled this order as well and ,hopefully, they should put my money back in my CC account .Needless to say, I have no desire to purchase CD's from flipkart again, Amazon.co.uk works very well for me .There is no question of 'order cancelled" here ,if its there with them ,its on display just click and order .Flipkart has a fancy catalogue of CD's and if they have to cancell "in stock " orders ,then I think they need to improve quite a bit.

Best way to select 'Cash on Delivery (COD)' option to avoid this kind of unforeseen situation.

For CDs and BDs/DVDs Amazon.uk is a good source due to their free shipping for 25 GBP or more order. My BDs are mostly sourced from Amazon.uk.

For some reason, despite giving BlueDart full contact details, my wife spoke to them [wife=Tamil-speaking] several times, but they could not or would not deliver. It went back to FlipKart, who telephoned me to say that they were despatching by another courier. Yes, the order went wrong, but they put it right in the end, and it was delivered.
Guess this is a tactic by Flipkart to buy time, in case they don't have enough stock.
It happened to me a couple of months back, but in my case even after repeated mails and they sending a Tracking number, i never received anything.
In the end after many mails and promise to send by another courier, finally they accepted that they didn't have stock.
Luckily it was a COD option for a cheap camcorder, or else the process to get the credit card refund would have been another headache..

In this instance, I don't think so. We were in touch with the Pondicherry Blue Dart office. They had the parcel: they just wouldn't deliver it.

I have found them to be upfront about not meeting projected delivery dates, with an email informing of the situation.

In my case too Blue Dart Chennai office kept insisting that they have the parcel, and gave flimsy excuses like house was locked etc,
the chances of which are very slim, as we have a toddler and someone always stays back at home. Even if the house was locked
why they forgot to leave behind a 'missed you' card wasn't explained either.

Meanwhile Flipkart kept sending emails blaming Blue dart for the delay. If their partner isn't doing a satisfactory job, that too in a metro why are they stuck with them?
Finally they said, we got the item back and asked me to place a fresh order for the same product.
I too believed them and placed a new order. The next day i get a message " Sorry, No Stock"

Have to admit, I thought that too ... but, in this instance, they genuinely did resend by a different courier and it did arrive.

To advertise a price, take an order and then tell the customer that the price has increased is very bad business practise indeed. Im sure it will make customers lose interest in online shopping. Having said that, i have ordered blu rays from flipkart and have had good service from them. I hope flipkart looks into this immediately and takes corrective action.

I ordered two books from BookAdda on the 28th of Dec. They called me a few weeks later and told me one of the books had been banned in India and they can't get it. They promised to get the other book and refund my money for the banned one. It has been over two months since I placed the order I have neither got the money nor my books.

Flipkart, with all its flaws, is so much better.

i had ordered a book on Flipkart but then decided to cancel it. cancelling was a breeze. the money which should have been refunded was however parked on 'My Wallet' which the site informs is " a pre-paid credit instrument which is associated with your Flipkart.com account. You can now maintain a balance of money with Flipkart.com and redeem it as you choose."
of course i used the convenience of 'wallet' to make further book purchases.
however one thing is certain. i remember asking for a refund and did not give anyone the permission to put it in my flipkart wallet.

lately i have been ordering books from infibeam now, when i saw that the same books are listed on flipkart at more cost. experience has been good. infibeam DOES take time more than flipkart for delivery (one book is still pending to be delivered since more than 2 weeks, may be since its an imported copy). but the packaging is quite better than flipkart's. i could safely say that am satisfied with it (since i dont mind a bit longer time in delivery for books).

Flipkart is the best for ordering music too.
I had ordered many times from rhythmhouse too but most of the times the discs reached me with broken jewel cases. With flipkart, the discs reach me intact and very fast !!!

They only lack good categorization though they do have the discs. It's easy to find Western Classical or easy listening discs but flipkart doesn't have a category for these discs as yet.

Somehow I'm not so impressed with new Flipkart tactic of showing a (very) low price for items which are out of stock. I've noticed this too many times and even initially I waited for the item to be available at flipkart but always got frustrated when I saw the price to got increased once it become in-stock.
Current example you can check the price of Logitech MX950 mouse which are now out of stock and showing mouth watering prices of Rs 4900 (as per yesterday's listing). But I'm sure once the items are available in stock they'll surely be priced around 6000Rs and (current street price). Even for Logitech G400 they were showing a price of 1475Rs which is funnily lower than G300 (1499Rs) but they've corrected the price today. Somehow I feel this kind of information is misleading and doesn't show the company in very good light (atleast to me).

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
