Flicker problem with Sony bdp370 and Toshiba TV

With some of the DVDs and VCDs i play on the Sony BD player, the TV flickers on and off and sometimes goes blank completely. BDs play fine.

I suspect this could be because of the region-coding on the DVDs (one of them is Russian region-coded).

I checked HFV for any tips to make the player DVD-Region-free - all i see is using a URC which i don't have.

Any suggestions how to troubleshoot this?

- If you've purchased the sony BD player in India, then it IS region free for DVD.
- The player does NOT play VCDs!


Could be some sort of an HDMI sync issue.

Firstly, make sure you've got the latest firmware installed on the player.

Then re-test the DVDs on your TV. If the DVDs in question work than okay.

Otherwise, my suggestion would be for you to test the BD player on another TV with the discs that give trouble. If the player is giving trouble then send it in for servicing.

If not, then it's probably the TV that's the culprit.

check if any grounding issue and also clean the sockets.. and pins.. blow pressurized air. and reconnect..

check for any wear and tear.. and there should be not bends.. it should go smooth and curvy no sharp bends...

I troubleshot this issue further - it was happening due to some HDMI resolution setting issue between TV and BDP. When I set the resolution to "Auto", while playing DVDs, the TV was flickering.

So i reset the BDP to factory settings and then played around with the screen settings. Currently, i have set the resolution to 1080i and things seem to be working better across BD, DVDs and CDs.
