frankmehta goes Speaker shopping! A few honest auditions.

LET'S get done with the Surrounds at first. We can have a game. Three guesses. One clue.
Well, surrounds are the 'least' important part of the Home theater system for most people. It wasn't an exception with me. No way was I in a frame of mind to place bookshelves from a brand as a surround speaker. That would be a sorry waste of money.
I wanted something that does a wide soundstage without being too large and bulky.

Bipolar. That's what I wanted. I went for it.

Start 'gassing'

Sonodyne or Polk

Sonodyne or Polk

No. Close, actually. I was suggested Polk. But then ProFX is highly overpriced, so I decided to skip Polk altogether.

Frankmehta,

Are you a dentist?

Yes, Denom, why do you ask?

Wharfdale !!!
Correct! The Diamond 10DFS surrounds it is!!!

Product - Products - Wharfedale Hi-Fi

Look pretty average, sound ok too. but when you're doing surround, why worry so much?

Wharfedale Surrounds with Quads in the front.
PHAIL! No longer :yahoo:

Is it ProFX or Polk that is overpriced? Asking since I am currently on talks with ProFX Bangalore to finalise on Polks. If they are overpriced, what other purchase options (dealer/brand) should I look for a fair deal?

Not really depends on how you negotiate and strike a deal with them . Just over phone they were ready to offer 14% discount on TSI400 series...... Bargain when you go to their store take some other brands of brouchers with you .... :p ... They will sure give you discounts..:D

Like Frank I have been doing lot of research in this space for quite sometime
and somehow lot of people dislike Focal

In my opinion if paired with right component it will sound excellent and only speaker which has control over treble and bass limits.

For example Morduant short and KEF exhibit lot of details which looks attractive to start with but will lead to fatigue over time.

Wharfdale is cleaner and less expensive, fatigue free. But missing soul.

My heart will be always for ZuAudio essence and not having enough money to own one.

There is also speakers from Mark and Daniel with Marble as drivers. They sound excellent

Coming to price,in my opinion you tend to get very decent comparable price quotes
from Profx(KEF, Denon), Audioplanet(Mr Palani for Cambrdige, ATC and Morduant), Wharfdale(Vector Systems).

Other places will not mention the names but some of them are quite
popular in procuring sources from grey or quoting rates quite indifferently depending on the time, situation and people involved.

So watch out for these brands especially I have to say Usher, Monitor Audio and B&W, QAcoustics.

With Bangalore dealers mainly in perspective

As of now my shortlist stands at in the order of priority Quads-> not available in bangalore, KEF iQ90, Dali Ikon6, Avianos 6, Wharfdale 9.4 or 9.5 for floor standers

Monitor audio, ProAc and B&W-> love them will never buy them mainly because of dealers involved in the business

ATC anyday if you have money will be an excellent choice, but need to buy equally good amp as they are difficult to drive.

Thanks
Venkat

I havent yet auditioned Dynaudio. Planning do it sometime.
Once tried to audition EPOS and dealer was so rude. I just came out

I give up if this is a 7.1 system might take a fair while :annoyed: or may be i am wrong he just revealed the first set

Don't you think it is worthwhile taking a trip to Delhi and meeting some of the CWG members? In any case they are all going to lose their jobs, and they may be interested in some serious 'explosive' investments. :)

Cheers

I am not sure, but I think he means that Bi-poles from Polk are very expensive. If you choose RTi A1 @ 16000 for fronts you have you buy a more expensive FXi A4 @ 22000 for surrounds. You end up spending 40% more on surrounds than the fronts which makes them very expensive.

i think this guy just wants more replies to his thread:mad:

I too feel the same.

Well, then guys. This thread is not for you. All over the internet, on a lot of forums, all my threads are like this. Ever heard of HOW to make a thread interesting?? This is one of the ways to do it. Ask 90% of the people reading this thread, they actually might just enjoy it, and subsequently, the wait to reveal my speaker setup.
It's how one takes it. I am definitely not doing this to get more replies. Lol. I wonder how a higher no. of replies makes a difference to my life. Constructive replies, yes. But this is not an attempt to garner more responses. If I wanted to do that, I'd just post a few photos of controversial nature :licklips:
Over and out..

Let's get back on to the next set of speakers, will we?
