Experts,
Thanks you all. After going through lots of posts I zeroed in to panny U20D.
I will be getting my 50" U20D today.
Plz advice me (or point me the posts) how can I verify this not a display piece and the preferred settings. Could not find this for U20D in the forum.
Also do I need to run any special video for initial hours?

thanks,
winallodd.

Winallodd - I auditioned Panny 50x20D, 50U20D and 50V20D today and I spoke with the sales person. He mentioned that Pany does not require burn in but I think 100 Hrs of burn in would be a good idea On a personal note I was awed by the 50V20D both by performance and cost

Nice one dude... Enjoy your Plasma... I just got one (plasma) this week, and all I'd say is don't pause any picture for too long, just don't use the pause button for the first month.
Toggle the ratios and that should be okay. Oh and get an extended warranty, it's always a good idea !
Cheers
Enjoy your self

my initial experience with panny TH-P50U20D
I placed it on my wooden counter rather than hanging it in my bedroom. The viewing distance is around 13-14 ft. At this distance watching 50" is like sitting in theater: every thing looks so big and clear. Earlier I was having 32" philips lcd.
I checked the penal time and penal count with the help of the panny technician: its 15 hrs and count as 16. Which looks ok as I checked it after 3 days of my purchase.
Initially I am keeping contrast < 50, sharpness = 0 in NORMAL mode.

good:
Picture quality from tatasky is coming out good.
Tried a couple of 720p movies from my transcend DMP10 media player. Its wow!
Tried my 1080i recordings through canon HD camcoder. To watch this was a treat to the eyes.
Will try some 1080p video.

Bad:
room light is a problem. I have tube light on the just opposite wall. I installed CFL on the side wall. Thats better.
The guarantee card I received says only one year, but the dealer told me it will be of 3 years. I will call dealer to confirm this.

Hi winallodd,

Congrats on the purchase. Wish you happy viewing.

Thanks

Are you actually running the burn-in slides for initial 100 hours?

I am loving my 50v20d bought in december. I did not use any burn-in images and using it normally for dth and dvdrips

No. I am just running tatasky (mostly) & movie from media player.
I dont think we need to run slides now a days. One of my friend has panny plasma for almost a year now. He told me: many times his son has left the tv open with a single channel running for quite some time. and he never faced any problem.

i also got my Panny 50U20D today.
the feeling itself amazing... leading to a transformation from the 32lcd to 50 plasma

Contracts on Your purchase of the u series. Did u audition the V series? I see lot of posts saying the v-series is grt in picture quality but can you let me know what is the visual difference in U vs V series? Only higher black levels?

And if I have to consider the PQ of a U series vs that of SONY EX710 series will the U series still stand out? I read V-series is the probale god of flat panels somewhere in this forum but wondering about the U-series since it is more VMF.

Frankly till day before i had not thought of buying a new tv. then my pana 32 started showing some nuisance which made me think. but still i was not so ready. then my wife and me decided to get a larger tv.

i always had the idea to buy a plasma when i wanted to get a larger tv.

i did see the V series. frankly didnt find much too different then U (mark it that i am no videophile, just a normal watchers). the biggest plus point in me choosing the U series was the price. checked with a lot of shops (branded and non branded) but this was the best rate given to me and i bought it. :yahoo:

however i do feel that some of the images are coming in blurred. is it because of the new screen. would surely like some help and advice here
