gonna be idlin soon!

Now if I can only understand what an idler is???

@musicbee: I was thinking more knowledgeable folks would reply but since they haven't thus far, here goes:

An idler wheel turntable is a method of driving the turntable wherein the motor drives a wheel (this is the idler wheel), and this wheel in turn drives the platter. Implementation varies - for example on Lenco L75, the idler wheel drives the plate of the platter (so idler wheel is perpendicular to the plane of the platter). On a Thorens TD 124, the idler wheel drives the rim of the platter (so the idler wheel is parallel to the platter).

This is similar to using a rubber or nylon or similar belt connected to the motor to drive the platter. The idea behind both types of drives is to isolate the motor noise from reaching the platter.

One common thing about idler wheel drives - they have lots of torque.

Manav! Get the Trans Fi Terminator man. Idler with linear tracker. Heaven!

Bro, somehow, I find these linear trackers a bit complicated... what with the pump etc... i like simple elegant solutions... which is why I am leaning more towards a long arm...

I have currently zeroed in on a Denon DA 308 in MINT condition. Apparently this arm was reference Denon arm meant for Japanese broadcast studios... I intend using the Denon DL103 Pro with the arm and it is said that it is a match made in heaven!

I was also exploring the Zu Audio variants...

Later, I intend using a different headshell and loading that up with a Miyabi 47...

Dunno how the transfi will do with this kind of planning...

Ballle balle. Welcome to the club bro. Will you now regret selling the V15 to me now? Chuckle chuckle.

Not at all bro! Even then I had two of 'em! Gave the other to another friend... plus knowing my luck i'll bump into it again, though, i really do not want it!

looking for a good mono mm cart to put on the sme 3009...

Disagree. The 301 grey grease bearing is the very best. Also disagree that sme 3009 series II improved fixed headshell wont take denon 103 mc cart. I have the said table fitted with sme 3009 series I and am running ortofon spu mc fitted into spu type sme headshell through ortofon verto step up. Now this type of cartridge cannot work with your tonearm but the denon dl 103 ( which I also have ) will . Cheers!! P.S. If in doubt get a mini digital scale and check tracking downforce by gently placing stylus tip thereon ( the kind jewellers use for weighing diamonds )

well opinion seems to be divided on this... and if i remember correctly, even Loricraft disagrees with your POV.

However, this aside, the 301 and 401 decks are superb! as are the Lenco 70s, 75s and the 78s...

just simple tweaks and refurbishemnt + a good replinth job brings them upto performance levels of modern day decks costing 5-15k dollars!

Just pulled the trigger on the Denon DA 308 tonearm and the Denon DL 103 PRO cart!

Both the above mentioned items were produced for reference quality transcription playback exclusively for Japanese broadcast studios!

Japanese reference products IMHO are always produced with an impeccable attention to quality and detail. These two items, too, as per all reviews and conversations with friends in Japan conform to the same ideology.

Now, the wait for them to arrive begins.

Congrats Malvai! Two steps closer to the garrard coming together! :)

in another thread i'd mentioned that I'm gonna go for a single layer plinth, but I think, since i am making the effort, i might as well go for a dual layer....

any thoughts? ideas????

By multi layered, I'm assuming you mean dual layers for the TT and a different plinth/layer for the arms?

By multi layered, I'm assuming you mean dual layers for the TT and a different plinth/layer for the arms?

Some examples:
1. Oswaldsmillaudio for 301, two layers: http://www.oswaldsmillaudio.com/Products/images/productshots/garrardinplinth.jpg

2. Multi-layered, with gap between layers: 124 in Slate

3. CLD type with slate: http://hammertoneaudio.com/Default.aspx?Part_Number=Garrard 401 - this was what I mainly meant.

4. Similar to 3 above but must be lighter: Ikeda Sound Labs IT-407CR1 Long Tonearm Review - Equipment Reviews - Dagogo

5. The third picture as you scroll down this page: Turntable Forum • View topic - Garrard 401 + Slate = Always good?. I think this would be one hell of an implementation.
