Good news for vinyl Lovers

Hello G401fan,

Which is the best pressing in your opinion?
Some like Mofi pressing, some 30th anniversary, some japanese and some current 2011 pressing which is digitally remastered but majority likes original 1973 uk pressing.

Vasu

Hello Vasu,

I prefer the original 1973 pressing, which also is on decently thick vinyl just prior to the oil crisis that year which led most companies from the mid to late 70s onward to economize on raw materials.

To be true, though, it's such a fabulous recording that it shines on most versions so long as the vinyl is quiet. Mo-Fi probably did not tamper with the master, as they did with their Beatles issues. I'd avoid any digital re-master for the obvious reasons.

Once you get the collector bug, it always 'feels' better to have a first pressing, especially with jazz on Blue Note, Impulse, Riverside, Prestige, Contemporary, etc., Beatles on Parlophone, Stones on Decca, Kinks on Pye, Pink Islands... too many to name.

Cheers!

Hi,

I got 2011 digital re-master version today via Flipkart. I played both my original Harvest Indian pressing (yellow lebel) & the new one several times. To me the old Indian version sounded much brighter, with pronounced instrumental sounds. Whereas in the new version vocal & sax sounded stronger. Overall not a bad mastering but somehow prefering the older sound(maybe it's the habit of the old sound).

Thanks & Brgds

Hello Shaizada,

There are tons of pressings available. Lot of people have given negative reviews to the latest pressing on Amazon.com with regard to quality of vinyl. Again, there are different pressings for US and UK.
I want to buy one but not sure where to buy from?

Regards

Vasu

Vasu,

The 30th anniversary edition is actually EXCELLENT sounding. It could just a little harsh on some passages, but overall, thats the version I'm very VERY happy with. Sounds amazing on modern audiophile equipment. Other than a UK Harvest 1st pressing, the MFSL sounds fantastic as well. But it is quite a bit warm sounding. A great presentation, but that 30th anniversary edition blew me out of my seat. Get that if you can.

Here is a link on the elusivedisc site:
PINK FLOYD THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON 180g IMPORT LP - elusivedisc

Looks like only a few copies left there. See if you can find it cheaper, otherwise just buy this one to make SURE you get the right version.

you got it from flipkart?

Flipkart doesn't deliver out of India unfortunately.

Thanks Shaizada! You are a great help.
Jochen offered me to get the copy of 30th Anniversay edition at cheaper rate than elusive and Amazon. I have sent a mail to him. Hope the vinyl is available in the same rate.

Thanks & Regards

Vasu

Vasu,

I hope you get it my friend. The Wall and Wish You Were Here are also getting remastered soon for Vinyl. I would Preorder those as well.

For any one who's in to Hindi music, Landmark is having a sale and I saw a few Pakeezah and Kabhi Kabhi LPs there at a discount. Plus a few Maiden and one U2. You might want to check out the Landmark stores in your cities. This is Bangalore

i have checked the same a few hours back. but i think for vinyls flipkart is far better then any indian site or store

Earlier we used to get LPs between rs. 50 - rs. 100. Now what is the price. Are they easily available in market or only online ?

Saw Ra-One and Rockstar vinyls for pre-order @ Flipkart.
Rockstar songs are awesome....however the LP's are on T-Series. My last 2 experinces with T-Serises LP's are pathetic.....(Tare Zameen Pey and 3-Idiots) Both the Lp's were badly wrapped... :(

Most of my LP's were bought for Rs.35/- (used for Rs.10/-) and 45's Rs.7. way back from 69 to 80's and at Fountain Mumbai were even available for Rs.5/-

Can SaReGaMa take the trouble/effort to release the following on vinyl, with the COMPLETE songs, by which I mean ALL 3 VERSES being present in the songs ? I have the original EMI pressings for these and every song has been edited to contain 2 verses instead of 3. The company has propagated the same setup to their cassettes and CDs....

Junglee
Professor
Asli Naqli
Sasural
Aayee Milan Ki Bela
Tere Ghar Ke Saamne
Hamrahi
Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya
Woh Kaun Thi - SaReGaMa should be hauled up over hot coals, for mutilating such beautiful songs
Mera Saya - same comment as for Woh Kaun Thi

Anarkali ( some of the songs ) - and 'Aa Jaan-e-wafa', Gita Dutt's number, Basant Prakash's music, has been totally eliminated from the LP

Nagin - the most glaring example being 'Jaadugar saiyan' where the second part of the opening antara 'pheeka pheeka kajra, toota hua' is just chopped from the song on the film LP, but is present in the 'All Time Favourites of Lata Mangeshkar' LP.

and the never-ending list can go on....
knowing which gems are missing on lps... that too golden bollywood numbers.....
dude i say lara for president!!

@ jimmy: i say get rockstar. even ra.one z stand by me is a wonderfully rare example of 'nakal me akal'(using head while copying). purists/ben e king loyalists excuse!
