There was this one model by "Optonica" which had separate detachable speakers. This was in the late 80's and early 90's. The Indian Company was Kalyani Sharp; they had a collaboration with SHARP Japan.

I got myself an Optonica 14inch TV and the color and sharpness was great as it was a Sharp Japan Kit.

Philips marketed their TV set as PHX made by Peico Electronics in India (It was actually Philips with a different name due to Govt Policy on using Foreign Brand Name):ohyeah:

I remember purchasing SONODYNE SCAN Color Television in 1986 and it was in high demand because it came with a Remote Control !!:yahoo:

Sonodyne also marketed the same TV set without Remote and named it MAGNUM. They were all Toshiba Japan Kit.

Having a Sony Trinitron Set was a luxury and quiet risky due to Customs enforcement.

The 1st TV set our home had was:

J.K .... B&W set.... bought in 1972 ......... I know, very few of you would know about this brand. It continued to provide satisfactory service till 1982.

1982 Asian Games got in our 2nd TV set ... this time, a colour one .... Dyanora. 1986, a second colour TV was procured .... Dyanora again.

1998 .... got a 29" Akai TV.

Now, possess a 29" LG procured 3 years ago, when the Akai conked off.....

Currently, am in '2 minds', as to whether to go in for a 42" plasma or continue with my LG ........ Have realised that I am too much into music, and not 'gaping' at a TV screen which runs all idiotic soaps and shin chan and doreamon and nobita and kitretsu and what not ...., most of the time for my wifey and kids respectively .....

You must be a really rich guy to have owned all these TVs...................... :)

LOL:ohyeah: I did not have these many TVs.
Just wanted to make a list of all OLD TV brands & models which I could rememeber but some people may not.

Most of these Tvs had unique feature or prototype which will not be seen now a days. (or brand itself.)

Anybody remembers or had Kinetik Merlin?
Was it a combo of Tv + Hifi + PC or something else?

It was pretty revoltionalry idead that time which didn't get going.

Let me add a few more to the list:

1) Televista
2) Telerad
3) Solidiare
4) N.G.K. (if I remember right)
5) Telefunkun
6) Murphy (yes besides the radio)
7) Binatone
8) Singer (the firm which mfg the sewing machines)
9) Nelco
10) Zarapkar (I am not too sure...)
11) Salora

Cheers

Sony Trinitron KV-2062, purchased from a pilot acquaintance in 1984, (When SONY WAS REALLY SONY - MADE IN JAPAN)
Will not ever forget this fantastic TV! 20" with single speaker & good sound output, worked beautifully for 20 yrs without ever needing any repairs, exchanged it for a pittance for a Samsung 21" T3 with built in Subwoofer - 1000W PMPO, lol!
The sammy worked well for 5 yrs before going kaput due thanks to lightning surge frying it via the cable wire!

How did you Guys forget Uptron b/w tv with shutter doors and a lock? I remember struggling with those doors to open it with hair pins, safety pins etc as a kid when my parents locked it up so I could do home work while they were out to bazaar ...

After Uptron it was National Panasonic b/w tv in early 90s....in 95 got Panasonic colour tv and after 10 long years got a Sony lcd tv.

All I remember is a dyanora , as everybody had the same tv when i was a kid. it had a right side bar which had the 12 channels bar and mono speaker beneath. I remember i saw spiderman every sunday on that TV.

My TV Timelines as below:

1) 1977-1982 - Televista Black and White TV - Even though I was a kid at that time I remember this TV used to keep breaking down a lot.

2) 1982-1993 - SONY Trinitron 20 Inch KV-2032ME (Made in Japan) :clapping: one of the best TV's of its time. Worked for 20 years I used it for 11 years before passing to my uncle who used it for the next 7 years with no problem at all except the main power switch on the TV was defective but could still turn on with the remote. Not sure if many remember this during Asiad games in 1982 Indira Gandhi had allowed import of color TV's for three months (as India did not make color TV at that time) if you had relative or family in the Gulf they could send you a color TV air cargo, and I remeber all the four major international airports were flooded with foreign brand TV's.

3)1993-2001- Toshiba 20 Inch CORE flat TV (Made in Japan) Excellent contrast and picture clarity but for some reason this TV died on me quickly.

4)2001 - 2008 - (Living Room)LG 21 Inch Flatron. Solid state TV. When I bought this TV it was of an excellent build quality as 80% of the parts were made in Korea. In the eight years not once did it spoil.

4)2001-2008 -(Bedroom) Aiwa 20 Inch. This was made by the Baron group under Kabir Mulchandani who also had license for TCL and AKAI. I remember paying only 10K for this TV for the price I had no complaints. I also remeber the full page adverts they used to carry about how their TV uses the best parts from different global manufacturers like tubes from Hitachi, capacitor from Philips etc. and that they dont use expensive celebrities to sell their TV and hence can sell so cheap.

5)2008 -Toshiba Regza 32 LCD - Got this for my parents in India and for the price it is a good deal. Sound quality is excellent thanks to SRS WOW and has a color managment option to change the color pallete in detail.

6) 2010 - Philips 42 Inch 9703 in Singapore. I love this TV both HD and SD looks great and beats both Sony and Samsung hands down. Sound quality is also excellent with 30 watts.

Yes, this model was a real workhorse! Most of our family friends had this tv, I distinctly remember the wooden cabinet of this tv & the channel buttons on the top right corner:licklips: Seldom does anything go wrong with these TV's, built like tanks, had the KV-2062 model of sony which was the successor model of the KV-2032, again a solid piece! Sony at its best :clapping:

I still have one of this with me and still in working condition. Have used it a lot and still working :)

The wooden cabinet was a distinct feature of this model along with the fact that it came with a wireless remote control which was way ahead for its time as we only had one channel - Doordarshan :ohyeah: Besides as a kid I was fascinated that some of the other control buttons were hidden behind a door which for my age at that time was like magic.

Also if you all recollect in the 80's it was very common to have a SONY TV paired up with a National VCR. The national VCR - NV 340 and NV 7500 were the typical models of that time, both of which were great work horse models. I had the NV 7500 model and it worked for 18 years without any problmes at all.

Wow! Thats Great. Could you just tell little more of this TV. Did you ever get a chance to see 3D picture? What was the content and what about normal viewing? Intrested because it was really unique & much ahead of time Tv.
