Good Old TVs

Yes, this model was a real workhorse! Most of our family friends had this tv, I distinctly remember the wooden cabinet of this tv & the channel buttons on the top right corner:licklips: Seldom does anything go wrong with these TV's, built like tanks, had the KV-2062 model of sony which was the successor model of the KV-2032, again a solid piece! Sony at its best :clapping:

I found a picture of the Sony KV 2032 on the web thought I share it as it brought back my childhood memories.

out here in Kerala, KELTRON TVs were legendary...I remember when there was no Doordarshan here in Trivandrum, guys would buy TVs and put up high and long Yagi Antennae to receive Roopavahini (Srilanka Broadcasting Corporation Television) with TV Signal Boosters made by MC Industries. I still remember the station used to broadcast on channel-5 and the black & white TVs used to come with manual turret tuners. The booster varieties available were MC60 and MC90. Then in 1981, KELTRON got permission from the Govt of India to broadcast experimental Television locally in Trivandrum using a 10watt TV Transmitter. They used to come on air in the evenings and show a movie every day (obviously from VHS tapes commonly available from the Middle East, at the time). Then sometime in August/September of 1982, Doordarshan's low power transmitter started broadcasting in Trivandrum and the channel number, no prizes for guessing, it was channel-5, obviously selected by the Govt of India to blank out Roopavahini Television in Trivandrum....also the Keltron experimental TV transmission was turned off for good...our first TV was a Keltron B&W Economy Model and then we graduated to a Keltron Colour TV in 1984...which my father used right until 2007 when he migrated to a LCD TV from Sansui...also, thanks to Keltron, Trivandrum was probably the first city in India to have a dedicated movie channel (and that to, over the air)...good old memories!!

couple of more names..

1.tesla
2.dyanora

we had the tesla..our first tv connected to a huge tall antenna with revolving distractors to shoo off crows :).. still the reception would suck most of the time. the tv itself was huge with inbuilt shutters...what fun..!! hope i could get a picture on this.

gannyboy....i remember TESLA TVs very well...some of their models were the only ones with UHF tuners in those days (early 1980s)...we used to dream of owning one as my dad was into TV Dxing and wanted (at some point of time) to design a UHF satellite Yagi antenna and receive Russian TV programs from the EKRAN Satellite...good old days!!

We got a Sony Trinitron 19" in 1986...still works, though my parents have donated it to the maid. I remember it had a wood-grain finish in the plastic on the side. Back then Sony built their srtuff to last, now they use the same components as everyone else.

Well, Videocon was amongst the 1st generation colour Tvs with remote.
I still remember the silver model with typical 1 right side single speaker and 20" oval CRT.
It had 8 channels and may be green single led number to show the channel no.(Just like Acs have temprature no)
There was no on screen display but remote had a led red blinker to show its sending some command.Remote had very few keys for channels and volumn up-down, sleep timer, and power on/off.
Picture tube, tuner and other components were from Toshiba I beleive.

may i add one more

Texla TV...the one among the earliest TVs launched in Delhi during the Asiad.ppl from delhi might remember the gurbani programme aired every morning @ 6:00 on radio vivid bharti sponsored by texla tv..it had the famous gurbani koi bole ram...ram..koi khudaye...i still love listening to it..

EC TV was the most widely regarded TV at that point of time. Well we had the Konark Brand of TVs which were good.

I had ECTV from early 80s to early 90s. I think most people around had ECTV that time. Other brands in that time were Dianora, Crown, Laxman Sylvania, BPL, Murphy... can't recall more.
