Hi guys,

I want to set up my Sony LED (having HDMI, optical ports) with Videcon D2H HD ( HDMI, SPDIF ports) with Philips HT (only HDMi & composite ports but no optical).

Please let me know the best set up for this to be able to view HD channels & sound as DD 5.1.

Would appreciate detailed response on how to connect all 3.

As far as as I know Videocon provides 5.1 sound only thru optical & not thru HDMI.

Thx

To enjoy 5.1 surround from HD set top box one should have following things as far as my knoledge is concerned

1.HTIB with HDMI in (to connect your set top box to your HTIB)
2.HTIB with HDMI out to your Sony LED ( every HTIB atleast has this connection these days)
3.If HDMI in is not available then atleast coaxial/optical input for you to route the sound from STB to LED then to HTIB.

First you need to tell us which HTIB you are having.

IMHO if your Sony LED has optical out but your HTIB don't have optical in and secondly HTIB not having hdmi in then you can not enjoy 5.1 surround from your HD STB. But in case your HTIB have coaxial in then perhaps you can use it using optical to coaxial converter

i am having philips HT3510..as far as i know it has only 1 HDMI i.e output & no coaxial in...i will check again today the ports.

sorry buddy, 3510 does not have any digital in (optical/coax/hdmi). So it wont be able to produce Dobly. The only thing you can do is, take the audio out from your DTH and give it in the Audio In and hear simulated and processed sound which will be better than TV speaker.

thanks guys..my bad then :(

So, should i then connect STB & TV using HDMI and audio out from STB to HT?

I think i will have to change sound settings of TV then to external speakers for this kind of set up.
