*Help to choose a better 2D Full HD LED Screen for home use (3D optional)*

Apart from all of the above there is no proof of AS providing some staggering details .... as you have said.

You are welcome to visit my home and watch any or all of the 15+ 3D bluray movies i have and get the proof on my 51D550.

As far as cinema theatre is concerned, please visit the newly upgraded Urvashi Digital 4k cinema theatre in Bangalore which uses Xpand Active Shutter 3D glasses, Meyer Sound EXP and 4k Christie projector. You will know how good active shutter can be.( THis is the first place in India to use 4k and active shutter)

After watching 3D in both these places you are welcome to post how bad or good it was.:clapping:

Have to end the argument here, ....having 15+ 3d movies does not state a thing, as I said it looks more like a support to your own purchases rather then facing the facts.

And did you even read my post properly, did I say Polarized was "better" in the 3D. Its out shining coz it has more home/family friendly features/aspects than active shutter, without compromising on the quality as such. AND its cheaper to implement.

Coming to the theater part ... do you even know what kinds of 3d technologies are out there and what is the latest. Xpand is not a technology, its just a cinema 3D system that prefers to use Active shutter glass system, does not mean its the latest or the best. The top of line 3D technologies, IMAX3D, RealD and latest Dolby3D ALL uses Passive Polarized technique, rather than Active Shutter. More and more cinemas are adopting Polarized techniques simply because it provides better end user experience, keeping things simple and inexpensive , without loosing out on the picture quality.

Same goes with 3D HDTVs as well .......

All major review sites have mentioned that though the LG cinema passive sets are excellent they do not provide the same level of detail in 3D as do the high end plasmas and few LED LCDs with Active Shutter Technology. No website has claimed that LG Cinema 3D TVs have the BEST 3D of any 3D HDTV. So yes passive is affordable and in the entry/mid range segment offers better 3D than its Active 3D rivals but its far from being the BEST.

Also again, the panel tech also determines whether or not ghosting/crosstalk can be completely eliminated. And since the LG Cinema TVs are LCDs they cannot completely eliminate 3D ghosting/crosstalk.

For proof you can ask Cinema 3D owners to perform a crosstalk test.

Only DLPs and OLED screens can have ZERO ghosting/crosstalk because their response time is MUCH faster than LCD.

Oh really should I google it for you ..... find me few articles that say "Passive have less level of details or 3D depth", .... yes there are arguments that passive halfs the resolution per eye, but thats not true..... I will leave it to you to search why not. And Just for a start here an article form Cnet

Study finds passive 3D TVs superior to active | Crave - CNET

Scroll down the very same article to find the "My reactions" part where David has given his opinion on this "study". ;)

What... David openion on jagged edges,??? so what, does it states less level of detail and depth..???? its his personal openion, and I think you didnt continue reading .... teh same david says ...."For you, concerned reader, my advice is pretty lame: see for yourself. Check out both versions at a store or preferably at someone's home, armed with knowledge about their strengths and weaknesses"

He himself admits his advice is pretty lame ....lolzzz ....anyway .... I will like to end the argument here ...... (yea i know I said that earlier as well, and I should have at that point) but anyway, if you are happy with AS, so be it, but dont just plunge in to the belief that Passive is worse than active, coz you own an AS system .......its not ......and that was the whole point of the argument

:thumbsup::thumbsup: Congrats... Enjoy FPR 3D :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Heh it's funny how the OP wanted the better 2D tv & most of us are discussing which is the better 3D tv/technology ... All I can say is both have their plus & minus points... So don't be lazy & get a demo of the models you are interested in & decide for urself which suits you the best...

@ OP have you excluded plasmas from ur consideration??? Coz you can get a very good large 50' plasma at the price of most 40'LEDs(maybe even less than the LED)

rajadeep-
I'm not familiar with Plasma specs but, I think it has less panel life compared to LCD and consumes more power too. If it's more than 200 Watts, then my present inverter (800VA) may trip during a high load situation. So I never tried to learn about plasma screen.

Hello all-
I had a demo of all SAM, SONY & LG models over the weekend at 3 to 4 places. At Croma, all 3 brands were on a single wall...side by side which helped to compare easy.

SAM D6600 and Sony EX720 -I couldn't even continue to watch the 3D for more than 1 minute ! The glasses use batteries, some sych buttons ....are cumbersome.
SAM D6000....3D was worst...didn't even feel it's 3D.
And at last LG LW5700/6500...was very ralaxing to watch. And I changed the viewing angle too....no issues. May be those LG demo videos were designed to attract people like that...
Also I watched Videocon 3D sports channel on all three brands and the feel was pathetic because of the poor performance of STB box.

Reg: HD & SD viewing...In fact, I couldn't make out much difference on all models.... D6600, EX720, LW5700

Though I wished to choose a 47" Tv earlier, after having demo I feel like going for a 42" itself especially watching SD contents for 8' to 14' viewing distance. So I may choose to buy LG brand soon by erasing Samsung from my mind. Sam-Sony models are 40" which looks bit low screen size for me and hence, LG's 42" size is plus to me. I've been using LG CRT Tv without any issues but, unable to consider LG in this new sector again !

Does anyone know any difference between LW5700 & LW6500 other than the later is 200 Hz ? At one LG shoppe, on LW6500 colours appeared a little more natural to me..is it because of the high Contrast ratio of LW6500 ? Is it worthy to choose LW6500 with an extra amount of 10k for a home user ?

Backlight
LW5700 = EDGE LED (LED Plus)
LW6500 = EDGE LED (LED Plus)

Motion clarity index
LW5700 = 600
LW6500 = 850

Dynamic Contrast Ratio
LW5700 = 5,000,000:1
LW6500 = 9,000,000:1

Response time
LW5700 = 2.4ms
LW6500 = 2.0ms

Thanks for the input here, I was trying to explain the same thing, but I guess it was french for few gentlemen here ......

Anyway quality wise there is no difference between 5700 and 6500. But 6500 has 200Hz refresh rate, which wont make any difference in 2D how ever for 3D the thumb rule is greater the refresh rate better is the 3D experience. Plus 6500 also has a better contract ratio. if you are purchasing purely for 3D viewing I'd say go for 6500 .... :-)

Gents,

...HAPPY NEW YEAR...

At last I bought 42LW5700 screen with Airtel HD DVR last week from a LG showroom. Both running good and the HD channels are superb...:-). I haven't explored through 3D stuff yet.

Thanks to all for the valuable responses to this thread.

Can someone advise a brand or place where I get good HDMI Cable here in Bangalore for reasonable price ? I need to connect my Pioneer DVD player (1080p) with the Tv. Also the cable should be good to use with 3D BluRay player in future....

Thanks...I had to pay 74k and got 6 3D glasses and 101 movies DVD pack free. Didn't get the USB memory stick/Hungama voucher. Though I could have got it 2 to 4k lesser in some other retail shops, I just bought it from a known showroom guy thinking about service support in future. Also received the Motion remote and wall bracket. Anyways I'm enjoying it...:)
