Guys!

Could you please suggest some entry level home theaters(under $500) which I can carry from USA to India. I would prefer something which has built-in acceptance of dual voltage and would have Bluetooth, WiFi and FM radio options. This would be primarily to watch movies and television series on TV and may be FM radio at all other times.

Please pour in your suggestions!

Hi,

There are ample systems available in india along with warranty and service, you should check on those options...

Also factor in weight and customs impact you may face when getting something from outside....

I wouldn't go for a Home theater for that budget (INR 30,000). Get a stereo amp and bookshelf speakers. They will be much better and you can always upgrade later.

Here, for example Marantz 1506 is available for less than $500/- but only the issue is lack of dual voltage.

Weight of the package, I am OK here coz of the short travel my second bag is empty can carry anything until 50lbs(23 KGs).

I don't know how this will be with customs.

How about just the speakers? Can I get them here? DO you have suggestions for the same? Easy to carry and might NOT be noticed.

Please suggest!

Sure. Get either wharfedale, Boston acoustics, and an amp like norge or smsl amp.

It depends on what your requirement is.
If you are looking for a home theatre, do not look for a stereo amp and book shelf speakers, they are good for music. But if your requirement is for movies do buy a AVR and you could upgrade slowly, say a set of towers first, followed by center, sub and surrounds.Whereas if you are inclined to use it for music alone , do have a look at stereo amplifiers and bookshelf speakers.

The requirement is for movies + music. So, an AVR. Is Sub must on initial buy OR can I do with AVR + 2 Bookshelves?

Regarding your questions on customs, you will mostly likely be caught if you bring it along with their stock packaging, little attractive to the eyes of the officials, again it depends on luck . The best would be to pack them with bubble wrap and place it, in your huge trolley bag, ensure it doesn't move around.

I shall keep this in mind.

As, I have pretty much an empty second bag, I can carry AVR + Speakers, easily. i.e If, I can decide on an AVR.

First finalize on what you need or what you would listen to, then proceed with the equipment. I also see that the speakers are cheaper in the U.S.A, but carrying them would be a pain. Bookshelf's will be easier though.
I would not recommend the towers as they would or will exceed the minimum length requirement of your baggage.

I am NOT looking at towers! I see lot of these miniature satellite speakers.

If, I can decide on the speakers and procure them here, half of my HT system would be done! About AVR, almost all of them here are on US Voltage(110V) and am NOT keen on using them on a step down transformer.

Just my two cents hope this helps!

Offcourse! It did help! Thank You!

If its Home Theater 5.1 from USA I'd just buy the definitive technology pro cinema series 600 or 900 depending upon the budget ; rest all are either competitively priced in India or not worth buying ...

Guys!

If nothing else, please suggest some good speakers, which one can carry from US to India.

I would like to make use of this short visit to build my HT back home. A pair of book shelf's and a center speaker, I can start with. If possible, can carry the surrounds also. The sub-woofer and AVR will procure from India.

Please suggest!

Look for Klipsch and Kef Q300
Which are bit costlier in India

Re: Bookshelves and Center Speaker?

How about polks OR pioneer AJ?

Could this be matched with Denon X520BT or Marantz NR1506?

Re: Bookshelves and Center Speaker?

The best way to decide on a set of bookshelf's is to audition and make a choice.
Which one suits you, depends on the kind or type of music you listen to, followed by the signature of sound that you like more. Some might be bright/detailed, some have a better low end, it is easier to just audition and pick the speakers.

Probably you could finalize your budget, list down the speakers that fall in the budget and then choose among them.
The brand or sound signature which one likes could not be the same for you.!

Well, this would be mostly for watching movies/tv series on television and few other times to listen to FM music. As such, auditioning speakers here is tough, as NOT many will have them in inventory.

Could you just suggest based on my viewing preferences. No Audiophile and all, I am looking for is a better sound and music than my Panasonic plasma TV.

Re: Bookshelves and Center Speaker?

I have zeroed in on these combinations for bookshelves and center. Both are highly rated on Amazon. I will procure the powered AVR and SubWoofer for these in India. Micca is well within budget and Klipsch, exceeds the same.

Also have attached the layout at home. The TV and viewing area is in a corner with double ceiling height.

Please suggest!

Re: Fronts and Center from US?

Could these fronts and center go along with Denon X520BT/Marantz NR1506 receiver?

I would source the fronts and center here in US and pair it with Denon X520BT OR Marantz NR1506 from India.

I need to close this ASAP. Please advise.

The bookshelves are rear ported with curved back and no keyhole slots. They are not supposed to be wall mounted. Otherwise your choices can't go wrong
