How to play mkv file on Sony Bravia LED tv-a guide

Not sure if you guys know this, Sony have officialy released a DLNA streaming software - Homestream for Sony tv's (& might work on other TVs too) which works for all kinds of formats (DRM-free) and is built on the Serviio platform.

Homestream info here: Sony Homestream
Windows Setup: http://homestreamdownload.sony-europe.com/homestream-1.0-win-setup.exe
Mac Setup: http://homestreamdownload.sony-europe.com/homestream-1.0-osx.tar.gz
QuickStart Guide: http://campaign.odw.sony-europe.com/cross/H295/Homestream_Quickstart_Guide.pdf

I have been using this for about a week now (since I got my brand new Sony BRAVIA 40HX850 TV ) and works very good for me on Wi-Fi.
This works for me since I have a rig which is on 24/7. It has very simple interface for sharing and decoding options.

I actually don't like to use my comp to stream content..I've used Mezzmo for that purpose which is one of the best media server..It requires u to turn ur pc on and it consumes a lot power.
I have a sony bluray player which consumes very small power and fulfills all media requirement.

There are merits and demerits in most solution.
One solution is to have dedicated media player or HTPC running xbmc.
The other solution is to use PC itself as HTPC. A make shift arrangement for HTPC :D
While it is also possible to covert the media to different format. Typically conversions will have loss of quality. Further this might require more (almost double) disk space because 10GB mkv after conversion will need another 10GB approximately of disk space for the new file created.

It is up to individual to decide on the best of the available solutions based on their needs and circumstances.

As the audio is dts so it is unable to play the sound...u need to convert dts track to dolby digital track.
Here is a good app to do that...

Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/?c6ky6wglh0n930z
http://www.mediafire.com/?gnn2ncqtwseqxhf

These are hd stream extractor and dolby digital encoder. Download and extract both of them in a folder..then click on HdBrStreamExtractor.exe and add your mkv file. Then click on features and u can see all the tracks i.e avc video track and dts audio track.
Now just check only the dts audio track and from dropdown list of extract as select AC3...and then click on extract.

Your dolby digital audio will be extracted in destination folder. It will take around 3-4 mins.

Now just follow the instruction in the first post..just add your dolby file which has an extension .ac3 and uncheck the dts audio in tsmuxer. After muxing it will be playable in bravia.

thanks bro...:)

I installed Homestream on my windows xp, but my sony kdl-32ex520 is not detecting the server. My software version of the tv is PKG4.005GAA-0104, which is the latest and is for asia pacific as described by sony website. Can you please check and report your tv softeware version, as it seems that your tv is detecting Homestream. Or else i have to conclude that my TV has some technical problem.... Sony India website has no open forum to discuss this issue... but UK sony website is recommending Homestream... so my doubt is whether sony is restricting this feature for customers in asia-pacific region.

Can you please also post whetehr u have done anything extra to detect Homestream server by your SONY TV alternatively.

Thanks in advance...

I checked homestream on saturday... it worked fine...just make sure internet settings in your comp and tv are automatic..don't put any static ip,dns, gateway in ipv4 settings. now make sure homestreamservice.exe running from task manager..if any errror occurs go to services and restart homestreamservice. Now add any folder and enjoy. Also it doesn't support subtitle. I've streamed a mkv file to my bravia via lan.

@ lake 1988

Thanks dear for the solution to play mkv file on Bravia, i am joining this forum to say thanks really appreciate your work can we chat on skype my skype idd is aloin_khanzz hope to see you there take care....:)

Why bravia support m2ts/ts..cause these extensions are tranfer stream extension and any tv with DLNA certification is able to play this file and most pc streamer software actually convert mkv file to m2ts internally and send them over internet to your tv. From this idea I post this thread.
Also all bluray ISO file has the native .m2ts extension for the main movie file but it still play subtitle file embedded in it cause it still have the authorating file to show that subtitle but here there is no such file.

It's due to this... mp42 is not supported so not able to render both streams.
Codec ID : mp42

Solution: For now please just go to the first post of this thread and add the mp4 in tsmuxer then mux it to .m2ts and playback will be fine. I will try to find a suitable mp4 creator and let u know cause most of mp4 creators will create unrendered streams

I created a partition on my external HD of around 20 GB. I changed it to FAT32. Still the USB wasn't detected. I am really in a fix here.
