How to play mkv file on Sony Bravia LED tv-a guide

Is the rest of the 1 TB disk not formatted/formatted? also is that drive usb powered or has separate power supply?
I got a seagate 1 TB usb powered drive.I created a 32 gb fat32 partition and rest is formatted in NTFS. This harddisk connects with bravia with no issues.

It means that your audio stream is broken/corrupted. Just for info all audio and video stream consists of small chunks of data..there is a header followed by original data information..now if such chunks is missing u will get this error while muxing in tsmuxer and mkvmerge...software media player like vlc got automatic stream repair algorithm..i.e it will skip that missing chunk. But hardware media player like tv(all manufacturers), media player(wdtv) got strict error detection protocol..it will just throw unable to play or play only video/audio.

My suggestion would be playback the file using vlc and connect your tv to laptop/pc via hdmi/rs-232 port.

Actually vlc fixes this only runtime so it will not save it in original file..that's why I told you to use hdmi/rs-232 jack to connect tv to play that file.

Hi lake,

I tried to mux using the GUI but there is some problem with this particular file. The tsmuxer crashes everytime I add this particular mkv. PFB the media info -

1) About changing the level as mentioned in the OP. What if the level is below 4? Do i still need to change it to 4.1? Most of my mkv were at the 3.1 level.

2) The audio in most of the files I muxed was .aac. I hope it doesn't run into any sound issues like DTS.

Thanks.

Problem is here

Muxing mode : Header stripping

You can't remove header stripping muxing from tsmuxer. You need to install mkvmerge gui..which is a freeware. Open it and go to File-->options--->mmg....there is a checkbox saying "disable header removal compression"..check that box and click on ok.

Now add the mkv file and mux to .mkv again...it will remove the header stripping..will take around 30 sec to do it.

Now just follow the steps in 1st post...mux tom2ts..and it will play fine.

If it's already below 4.1 no need to change that.

AAC is fully supported by bravia so there will be no issue.

Getting an error after using mkvmerge with the above mentioned instructions I tried adding the file to the tsmuxer. Attached is the screenshot.

Muxing mode : Header stripping
Have u checked that box to disable header stripping cause it's still showing in muxing mode.
Sorry to mention you before cause you need to restart mkvmerge gui to reflect the change of setting.

hey thanks a lot lake1988. I just got a new bravia KDL-40-ex520. As u had suggested i cud play .mkv files using tsmuxer. Is there any way to play .avi files ? U must be having some solution........:)

Here is a link to an app to format 1TB hard disk drive in fat32 format..Fat32Formatter
As many people are complaining that it's not supporting NTFS...so we need to make a separate partition of 32 gb...can't use the full 1 TB..

Here is the solution-

.you can took the drive then open disk management under my computer-->device manager then delete the 1 TB partion to make the drive unallocated..then format it using this software to fat32. Works like a charm..
I've tested it using my 1 TB segate portable HDD and oh it's working awesome..it's recognizing the HDD within 5 seconds believe it or not..
This same software is used to format HDD to playback media file via PS3.

can we also format whole HDD in exFAT format as thn it'll be supported by bravia...is there any disadvantage in formatting it in exFAT

Yes it will be supported by bravia..no disadvantages..
I use this 1 TB fat32 formatted hdd in my tv and bluray player S370..
exfat is not supported in that S370 bluray player..
Fat32 is more acceptable between media devices.

Is there also any way for bypassing limit of 4GB for a file in FAT32....

4GB is a limitation of FAT32 format, so you cant do anything about it, why not format your drive as exFAT, it will then have no such limit and also your sony tv supports exFAT :)

There is a split option in tsmuxer gui where you can split a file upto 4 gb...and files will be played back sequentially in tv...then no worries.
