Mughal-E-Azam ... Prem Jogan Ban ---By Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. I am yet to find a better song than this...seems he charged Rs. 25 K in those days for this song when Lata used to charge Rs. 10 K only...still I would say K Asif got a Bargain Deal :clapping:....

Hey jimmy. Sorry but you failed to narrate the legend.
k asif z passion about mughal e azam and his attention to detail is stuff of legends already.
Now according to the situation of song, while anarkali comes to meet salim in the middle of the night, sangeet samrat tansen was to sing this. Tansen the man who could make it rain by singing megh malhar and lit the deepaks with deepak raag. Asif simply asked his music director naushad," who is the most accomplished classical singer of this time. He ll sing as tansen."
Hesitantly, naushad took him to ali saabs residence where, after usual dua salaam naushaad told him he came to request him a song in a movie.
Largely dissatisfied with the quality of recordings of those days, ali saab s aversion to sing in studio, any studio be it akashvaani or film recording studio, was famous.
He instantly replied to naushad that he wont sing for any movie.
Asif immediately cut him and said" ustaadjii, gaana to meri film me aap hi gaayenge"
Ustaadji took naushad to a corner and whispered "ye aadmi paagal hai kya?"
Naushaad said"poora paagal hai saahab. Isne soch liya to ab aapse gaana gaqa k hi rahega. Meri maane to ise haan kah dijiye"
Lata used to get 300 rs a song that time.
Ustad told asif he ll charge 3thousand rs per song and.........
Asif immediately placed rs 5 thousand on table saying, balance will be paid in studio next day before recording.
At that exorbitant cost, ustaadji was booked to sing 2 songs for the movie, the other one being shubh din aayo ri on occasion of salims return to palace after years abroad.
Asif struck the deal with ustaad in less than 2 minutes and like you said he got a bargain jimmy....
I m sure asif also knew it. Better than anyone else in the world!

Speaking of Mughal-E-Azam, contribution of Parsi community is immense in mostly every field, that's why they have earned so much respect.
Regards
Edit : Sorry to add this later. Parsi mentioned is Shapoorji Paloonji Co. who financed the movie. Considering the movie took ages to complete and went overbudget. I thought we should appreciate it.

Hi Issigonis

There are also vinyls of hits of each year. There are hits of 1960, hits of 1961 and so on till 1984.

Absolutely Dr. I only like the last 3 lps in that series. Rare, beautiful songs.

@^^ as also 50 glorious years of indian cinema series having songs from 10 years in a set of 2 lps starting from 1937-47 until 87. And a 12 lp set yaadon ka safar having wonderful mostly uncommen/bhoole bisre geet.

entsurgeon,

Five decades of Hindi film music, starting from 1937, with each decade getting two LP records? At approximately five songs per side, that means twenty songs that defined that decade. Not bad at all.

The game's afoot:)

Hi Issigonis

These are the rare gems. None are the known hits. Most would be familiar with very few songs in this set. Normally goes for Rs 3000-6000 for the set depending on the condition
