Hi ,

Here is a question-

Can I expect better SQ from new release of silsila, Pakiza ... compared to the used ones in good condition ?

Is it worth to invest Rs.799 in new release compared to used one ( good condition) at around 100/200?

A new record will give you queit background.
All RPG previous releases are 180 gram vinyl and they sound dead queit on my rig. I expect the new releases of the same quality. Whether Silsila & pakiza etc are worth investing? Well... it depends how much you are going to listen those songs over & over.

i too have all the titles in IMMACULATE condition.....

as far as the sound quality goes, all i know is,

OLD VINYLS - recorded directly from the original analog reel-to-reel masters.

NEW REISSUES - most probably recorded from original analog masters, BUT a doubt creeps in. those dick-heads at SA RE GA MA think they are doing the humanity a huge favour by ENHANCING the original recording...

only solution would be to check-out a couple of titles and confirm if there's any diff...... a digital enhancement means u don't buy the new ones...

as u rightly point out, there is going to be a few clicks-and-pops with our old copies.... but an ANALOGOHOLIC like me does'nt even notice them anymore.....

@myriad
What you mean by previous? The 8-10 titles released in past year?
@pratim
Indian vinyls of yore weren t exactly famous for their great quality. The newer releases are pressed abroad and members are praising newer releases.
Another point is, vendors are already asking 3-4 hundred for such lps.

need ur perspective on SOUND QUALITY of old pressings vis-a-vis the new ones....

anyone who have bought (or will buy) the new titles like KABHI KABHI, PAKEEZA, SILSILA please post a comparison in sound quality relative to the old pressings....

Hi Friends,
last week I've brought Dil To Pagal Hai and 1942 A Love Story released by SaReGaMa. The quality of the records and recording is really good. The weight of the new vinyls are heavier than the old ones

of the new releases , 1942 being rdbs last released work is definitely collectors item.
35 yrs down the line, rang de basanti will be remebered for the best song daler mehandi ever sang.grab.
3 idiots could be purchased for the reason- hit movies memorabilias from the era have a period charm. get one and keep it in sealed as a future investment. ditto with ddlj.
edit
lagaan: get it while you can.period.

Was in Kolkata over the week end. Took some pointers from pratimbayal ..and did some shopping @ Lennin Sarani. Got myself following

LP's --> Roti Kapada Aur Makan , Gharonda (45 RPM - LP), Hare Ram Hare Krishna, Sharabi, Namak Halal, Julie, (Rs. 50 to Rs.100)
EP's --> Pyasa, Mausam (Rs. 10 Each)

At first they looked very bad, but after proper cleaning, I was very happy with the quality.

My search continues for Ghar, Masoom, Ijjazat, Namak Haram.........

This is a bit difficult list. They know very well that RD's music is hot cake, specially the names in your 2nd list. Just try Masoom & Ijjazat. I got my Ijjazat for 2300 rs.(NM) was asking for 5000, took almost 6months to negotiate.:yahoo: And this is the man from whom I've bought more than 250 records. You'll get Ghar easily, just take your time & keep digging. BTW how's the quality of HRHK? If u got it in 50 to 100 range & the vinyl is in good condn. you've got a jackpot.:clapping::clapping: Also look for Shalimar(RD in full glory), very difficult to get on even CD.

The guy from whom I purchased had a mint condition (he said - never touched Needle) Ashiqui (Nadeem Shravan) 2 disc LP. He was quoting Rs.1000 for the same. I was very tempted, but then decided against it.

The records I picked looked very very dirty. I just ensured that there are no scratches on it. I clean my LP's use COLIN, Distilled water and regular wall painting brush. Then I wipe it with BANIYAN cloth (yeh andar ki baat hai :ohyeah::ohyeah: ) I could actually SEE a lot of dirt comming out of records.

But then LP's are like vintage cars. If you cant take care, then better switch to CDs :indifferent14:
