I was looking for 50" plasma...and I almost finalized Sammy 51D490. Now comes the real confusion...... I saw LG 50PZ550 and the features too look promising.
And it is FULL HD.....googling got me close to this model and I found that there were lot of positive reviews for this model.
The deal stands at Rs.54,000/- without any freebies.

But most members in our forum advise us to stay away from 2011 LG TVs....Just want to check what the real problems are with LG 2011 TVs.

Need experts' suggestion.....

In my opinion it is a fantastic deal. Go for it, I do not think you will get any other deal for a 50 incher Full HD at this point of time.

Is it this year's 3D model or last year's 2D one? If it is last year's, it was a good TV, however you should get it for less than 50k.

pls demo a tv with a DVD and a dedicated dvd player in the showroom(not with the splitter), before you even think of going for a "51" inch, HD "ready".....pls take a demo and you will understand what I am saying....

I am concerned about the advises by the HFV members regarding the 2011 LG Plasmas.

LG 50PZ550 is a 2011 FULL HD plasma. Also had connectivity and calibration options.

I have seen the TV in my opinion it is quite good the PQ including colours are excellent. HD content is mind blowing though SD is a pain to watch. This model is an active 3D model from LG from its 2011 lineup. Nice styling and quite slim too.

For the price quoted I do not think you will get as good a deal as this. Further, with the rupee depreciating vs the Dollar we may see a price rise on the cards around the corner. If you are willing to stretch your budget then samsung 51 d550 is around 10k hihgher, pana st30 will be around 90ish. In case you are not too concerned about 3d then pana v20 around 75-80 is the best TV in this size.

I thing 51D550 will be a better option around 10k costiler but u will be getting 2 glasses free too.
Panasonic and samsung should be first options while buying a plasma IMO.

My fight is between Sammy PN51D490 and LG PZ550. My budget is way too restricted (max 55k).

Not even a single person from this forum owning this PZ550???

I have this TV and have recommeded this TV to 3/4 persons who have bought the same way back in July/August when it was priced around 58k. You will get a pair of 3D glasses too in the pack. Performance wise I think this is pretty good and of course I aim to change the TV in around 3 yrs time so I go by the adage decent quality with the cheapest price tag.

PZ550 will have better colours than similar priced LCD. Almost comparable blacks etc.

But when compared with Plasma TVs like D450 and D550 in the range, It will fall flat on the nose when it comes to black levels and colours.

As with all LG TVs, the front glass is also untreated and the reflection will be unbearable and black areas unwatchable.

Refer pictures below.

Seems there is a lot of reflection on the screen in the showroom...
Also, the Audio out from the TV is Digital Optical means we need a digital-analog audio converter to connect the TV to analog 2.1 audio systems....another overhead!
How about the 3D cross talk and sync issues with the glasses?

Well the difference is not as much as people make it out to be. I have compared the pz 550, and D 490 and the D 550 before coming to a decision on the PQ. (All viewed with HD DTH) Go and see for yourself before deciding on any.

As regards reflection well all the 3 TVS are reflective maybe a minute difference but my eyes in the showroom all were much more reflective as compared to the panny st 30

The contrast and black levels are not much different well maybe to my untrained eyes they did not strike me as so but I was able to discern the difference between the panny V20 and these TVs.

Pricing being one of the main factors so I would tend to go for the TV which is priced lowest and is of acceptable quality as I know that I will be replacing the TV in a couple of years.

my personal opinion is 5star rating(5/5) for lg in terms of clarity, the best of its class, a good set will out beat panasonic, but
i rate (0/5), the worst in terms of quality of components... once gone better to throw than repair, even china tv better...
repair service they are best (5/5), they will give good rather i say the best response, fastest of any i ever seen in my lifetime, but quality of repair will be 0/, the guy will know nothing..
somehow i dumped my lg for samsung in just two years.. enough of nightmares i had with lg...
if u want clarity+economy= lg but zero quality
quality+economy=samsung but worst service
quality+serviceclarity+= panasonic, but not economic
decide well... owning elephant is not great feeding is important
50" will do no magic unless got 1080p contents like media player, bluray disc, hd-dvb,hdmi pc....
if nothing is available , got dvd, cable, then better to stay with 29" flat tv, u get best...

Where could you get the price of 54K for 2011 50PZ550 ? On both Filpkart and Letsbuy- it's 76k.If you really get it for 54K , I think it's a steal

Most stores now have this model for 54-55K range, Enquired at CROMA (54.9k) but out of stock. But 1-2 dealers had this for 53-54k with 1 pair of AG250 glasses.....
Is it really worth to go for this LG model?any after affects? I don't want to regret my buy if I go for this!

^
I would still recommend u to go for samsung 51D490. I also had offer for LG50PZ550 for 55k but i didnt go for it. For me Samsung is better in plasmas and didnt want to regret after buying it. And 3D should also be better in Samsung plasmas.

Guys, are you still sure that the LG plasma you were offered was a FHD 2011 model? Please be clear on this..As far as I know, the cheapest 50'' FHD-3D plasma is Samsung D550.And please don't go for a HD ready in a 50in size.FHD is essential (with so many HD channels already at shores).

Yes! In fact.....it is LG 50PZ550 2011 FULL HD Plasma offered at 54K with 1 pair of AG250 glasses. LG is phasing out this model to highlight Cinema 3D LED and Pentouch PZ850. None of the stores had this model in Demo (except 60PZ550 at one multibrand store)
