There is not much reported about pz550 because not many people have bought it :)

I think these TVs do sell, but to those who are ready to compromise on quality for screen size, or are simply unable to cough up the high prices. So we are not getting any reviews or postings here, Other wise LG would have stopped producing plasma by now. Similar is the case with other TVs IMO. While we are debating what is the best TV here, lakhs, if not millions of all kinds of TVs were sold during last two month festival seasons.
I often compare purchase of a whilte good * TV / Fridge / W,Machine etc, to indian marriage. Once purchased,we continue to live with these, like our better halfs, with all its goods and bads.

Here is the AMAZON reviews page:
Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: LG 50PZ550 50-Inch 1080p 600Hz Active 3D Plasma HDTV with Internet Applications

Sammy 51d550: Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Samsung PN51D550 51-Inch 1080p 600Hz 3D Plasma HDTV (Black)

The LG PZ550 almost close to Sammy counterpart.....

The major differences I've found:
1)Sammy had Bluetooth 3D vs RF 3D in LG (futureproof?)
2)1" screen size diff.
3)LG's Audio out is Optical (digital meaning we need a converter sort of device to connect audio to analog 2.1 stereo systems); Sammy had 3.5 mm output.
4)There was a complaint about the LG's AG250 glasses that they often lost sync, but was an issue with the version of glasses (v0.63) which was rectified in 0.64 version glasses. Not sure whether we will get this model of glasses with the TV.
5) LG gives only 1 3d glasses as against Sammy offering 2 pairs. But LG's is rechargeable one!
6) I read in the specs that the LG 50PZ550 had AR (Anti reflective) filter. Need to confirm this....
7)3D Depth: LG has 20 steps against Sammy's 10 steps. Not sure about the real depth we get with this!
8)2D-3D: LG wont convert analog RF cable TV to 3D (as per a website) but the LG's specs mention it will convert all the sources to 3D!
9)3D picture size: Sammy has better modes. But LG has only 16:9 and 1:1 scan meaning we cannot stretch the picture to full screen in LG?
10)Future: LG has already phased this model out so what about the future? spares/glasses etc?
11)Power: the power consumption seems to be economical in LG (around 200W) against Sammy(350W)
12)Not sure about the below modes, specs differ at different websites: a)Cinema 3:2/2:2 Pull Down Mode b)HD Up-converting ; whether 50PZ550 has these options or not!

13) Service Menu: How to access LG 2011 Plasma's Service menu? to know the panel hours (and to avoid the delivery of a demo piece :D)

Experts......what do you say?

I was looking for 50" plasma...and I almost finalized Sammy 51D490. Now comes the real confusion...... I saw LG 50PZ550 and the features too look promising.
And it is FULL HD.....googling got me close to this model and I found that there were lot of positive reviews for this model.
The deal stands at Rs.54,000/- without any freebies.

But most members in our forum advise us to stay away from 2011 LG TVs....Just want to check what the real problems are with LG 2011 TVs.

Need experts' suggestion.....

You should go with LG 50PZ550. You are getting a pretty good deal for 54K. Obviously you are not making an investment for a life time. You are going to have a new TV few years later and this TV will allow you to know the pros and cons of the technology before you switch over to another TV some time later.

Samsund D490 and D550 have better 3D PQ. Consider that before buying

Definately. I demoed 3D in samsung D490/550 3D and LG 50PZ550 before buying D490 ,3D was far superior in samsung one plus samsung offers BT glasses. Leave aside 3D even 2D is better than lg50PZ550.I was also offered 50PZ550 for 55k but decided against it,didnt want to go with discontinued product(why LG discontinued it so early, reason to think also).

dillihifi: please comment on this.

I also had a demo of the following TVs before purchasing/finalising

1. Samsung D490, D550, LG PZ550, Panasonic ST30 and V20

Wanted a 3D TV therefore V20 was not considered further.

As D490 was not FHD and as I was looking for a 50 inch TV therefore I wanted a FHD in order to sit close to the TV during watching of Blue Rays/ HD content so the D 490 was also not on the shortlist

Finally I was left with the following TVs

1. LG PZ 550 at 58k + 1 Pair of glasses thrown in
2. Samsung D 550 at 72k no glasses
3. ST30 at 78k with 2 pair of glasses (but a 42 inch as 50 was not available at that point) so again dropped
4. Watched TV with 3D content and would say that there is a minor difference in the handling of the 3D content you can say something like 19-20 ka pharak to my eyes
5. Watched 2D and to my eyes both did equally well
6. I will keep the TV at most for around 3 yrs and for the price I was getting the alongwith a 3 yr warranty was 60k excluding all discounts so I took a conscious decision to buy this TV which will be mainly used for weekend sporting action / movie playback. The samsung would have cost me nearly 15k more with a pair of glasses and coupled with the group buy case of manit so was not interested in getting the TV shipped from Bangalore.
7. It is not that the Samsung has a vastly superior PQ. Maybe there are a few differences but this TV is neither going to be a lifetime investment as newer tech shall always replace the old and nor I spend maximum time in front of the TV. Regarding the service part I have both samsung and lg products and you may have an isolated issue but by and large both companies have similar response times and quality.
8. To my eyes however the LG clarity was better and of course everybody is entitled to his/hers opinion on this matter.
9. In my view the best 3D experience I have had so far is the LG Cinema 3D but the 46 or 55 inches cost too much.
10. Take some demos and go for something which you like.

The main reason for discontinuation,I guess is the cinema 3D.I think LG will move completely to passive 3D.And, LG sheds older technologies faster.A good example is the wonderful 42LD650.A 200hz TV with DLNA was discontinued in 2010 just to make way for the LEDs.Now, LG doesnt have a high end LCD - just to make way for LEDs.I think the same about this set..

btw..42 ST30D can be bargained to 65k or 68k in most of the cities.....who quoted you 78k for it...go for LG PZ550...for your requirement it seems to be perfect....just one thing..pls consider the reflection aspect as well in your home conditions....

These events took place in late July/August 1st week in Gurgaon and these are the market prices prevailing at that point of time.

Samsung 51D550 with 2x glasses should come no more than 62k in Delhi. Also, 50VT20 is available there for 71k. 42ST30 can be shipped from Bangalore with 1x glass for around 66k with transit insurance. The prices you are quoting is way beyond the best prices we have currently. One of us here seems to have got 51D550 price for 59k few days back in Delhi.

Letsbuy.com has better pricing for Samsung as they are offering 5% additional discount. You could try for them. LG sales person could not update me today, has promised to do it by tomorrow.

Prankeyji, anymore updates on the LG TV?

Called him yesterday, he was driving and he again apologized for not getting back and promised to call back at the earliest. Its really tough to keep chasing these sales folks just to get the pricing! Will follow up again tomorrow.
