Hi,

I just bought a 42" LG LW5700 Cinema 3D set this weekend (for Rs. 78,300 with Tata Sky HD free - LG Shoppe, Banjara Hills, Hyd). It was delivered yesterday and should be installed today or tomorrow. Will post my initial feedback as soon as possible and will be glad to answer any queries from prospective buyers.

Cheers.

You must have demo'ed the Cinema 3D in the showroom. How is it?

Does the above TV come with a set of glasses included? What is the price for each pair of glasses?

I did take a demo of the Cinema 3D models (both the LW5700 and the LW6500 at different shops). I also took demos of the Active 3D options from Samsung (Series 6 and 7 LEDs and Series 5 (D550) Plasma). Both me and my wife found the Cinema 3D easier on the eyes. The horizontal scan lines are visible in Cinema 3D if you look closely but they didn't bother us much. We felt a lot of flicker and more eye-strain with the Active 3D glasses.

Not everyone will feel the flicker and/or eye-strain with Active. So it's strongly advisable to demo on your own before taking a call.

Samsung's Active 3D glasses were quoted at 4,000+ each depending on the type (battery operated vs rechargeable). Cinema 3D models come with 4 glasses free.

Re: LG Cinema 3D LW5700, LX6500 Owner's Thread

Just realized that the name of the thread says "LX6500" instead of "LW6500". Is there any way to correct that?

Hey Congratulations.! I am also waiting for 47" LW6500 but it is not in stock anywhere. Hopefully soon it will be. I also liked LG's passive 3D better than other's Active 3D. Strain on eyes is one thing, then its uncomfortable and bulky glasses, then the crosstalk issues, then the sync issues and the low brightness in 3D. All these issues are gone in LG cinema 3D.

The horizontal scan lines are only visible if the viewing distance is less than 2mtrs. So try watching the TV at 2.5mtrs or so.

Re: LG Cinema 3D LW5700, LX6500 Owner's Thread

I've had my 42 LW5700 setup and have spent a little bit of time with it watching different material. Here are my initial observations. I'm no expert and this is my first HDTV, so please bear that in mind while reading this.
- Looks: This is quite subjective. I personally quite like the brushed metal strips at the top and bottom. They break the monotony of the black very well. The Matte screen has very little reflection and is a big plus.
- Overall Picture Quality (SD): I have a Tata Sky SD connection. Tata Sky SD looks much better than I'd expected based on reviews at stores. It's a little soft but there's very little blockiness/artifacts from my viewing distance of 8 - 9 feet. There's some variation across channels but it's quite watchable.
- Overall Picture Quality (HD): I've watched a couple of 720P rips of Planet Earth through USB. They look fabulous, well detailed and with fantastic colours.
- Overall Picture Quality (3D): I've downloaded and watched a blu-ray rip of Under the Sea 3D. It looks fabulous with bright and colorful images and excellent 3D effect. I haven't seen any crosstalk. I can't comment yet on resolution loss as I haven't been able to watch the same film in 2D.
- 2D->3D Conversion: I haven't been able to get this set quite right. While there is some illusion of depth, the TV can't quite keep up with the screen at all times. I see many instances of the TV interpreting the depth incorrectly. At the moment, I believe this is more of a gimmick. Perhaps with some change of settings, I'll be able to make it work.
- Clouding: There is some clouding at the 4 corners and it is noticeable when watching in the dark with a medium/high backlight setting and no local dimming. I've been able to remove it to a level where it doesn't annoy me much when watching the TV near dead center by adjusting the backlight and brightness setting and having the local dimming set to high. The Local Dimming Setting is not available when watching something through the USB input.
- Motion: I'm the sort who likes really smooth motion. I'm quite sensitive to jerky motion when panning and can see it easily when watching movies at the cinema hall. Glad to say that I haven't yet seen any judder on the LW5700 with a high de-judder setting.
- Black Level: With room lights on and local dimming on, blacks are quite good. If, however, you are interested in watching movies in the dark, this TV might not be the best option.
- Off-Angle Viewing: With a dark screen, I can see the black becoming purple as I move off-center. It's not much of a problem when viewing actual content though.
Gaming Lag: I have a ps3 and I've tried the following games: Uncharted, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm and a few game demos. I'm not a pro-gamer and I tried them all put together for only an hour but I didn't notice much of a lag. Will get to know more about this as I game more over the coming days.
Calibration: The TV has plenty of settings for calibration. I'm still in the try and see phase on the various settings posted by users on different forums. But given the extent of options available, it should theoretically be possible to get the TV to quite close to industry standards and more importantly, to your personal liking.

Will keep sharing my findings as I explore the set more. Do let me know if you have any questions which I can answer.

Thanks for the review. It was quite good. Although i doubt if there will be crosstalk issues with this TV as the technology is completely different. Did you find any noticeable difference between lw5700 and lw6500? Pls share your experience with that also.

Send a PM to venkatcr to correct the thread name (LW6500).

Why is it so? Is the TV too bright? If that is the case then I think we can decrease the brightness and make a warm picture quality. Isnt it so?

akhil7j, I haven't been able to watch the same content on both the sets. But in my separate demos of the two at different stores, I didn't find any noticeable difference.

akhilj, there are two issues that come in the way of good dark room blacks.
1. The IPS panel itself
2. Clouding

I'm using a low backlight setting (10-12) + local dimming to get over these two issues. With a pure black screen, the local dimming does a fantastic job in keeping it very black. But with variable content on display and in a completely dark room, you can sometimes see halos and leakage.

Re: LG Cinema 3D LW5700, LX6500 Owner's Thread

Hhmm.. But that is i think there in every Edgelit LEDs. I saw the same problem with Samsung too. I prefer watching movies in mid dark room. I hope this TV will not disappoint me much.

The 47" LW6500 & LW 5700 is launched. :yahoo:
Yesterday i went to the near LG shopee and luckily the Area Manager was there. I asked him for the best deal and he quoted 118,000 for 5700 and 124,000 for 6500 with TataSky HD and Motion flow remote. For Motion flow remote i did some bargaining. He wasnt ready to give as its of 2k.

Now i need to choose which one to pickup. The 5700 looks are better than 6500 which is just plain black. But in specs, 5600 has 5000000:1 contrast ratio and 6500 has 9000000:1 contrast ratio.
5700 has 100hz TruMotion and 6500 has 200hz TruMotion. And last is 2.4ms and 2.0ms response time.

What do you think which one is a good TV? Budget is not a problem. Even 6500 is in my budget but I just want to make sure I didnt wasted my money.
