Have been mostly a silent absorber of the gyaan from this site - wanted to say thanks for the guidance from all of you.
I bought the LG PA75U (LED) from US about 15-20 days ago...have been playing with it since then. Some notes:
- I have it ceiling mounted and projecting on a white wall, around 85" projection. Picture quality is very good with HD material from laptop and TataskyHD. Average quality as you can expect from SD channels.
- Connected via an ActionTec wireless HDMI to my receiver. Is able to successfully receive both A/V without any sync issues. Network connection via built-in Wifi.
- While there are SmartTV features like streaming video over Plex etc, no good way to send audio back to receiver.. does not support ARC or have an digital out. Currently I have a analog audio cable going back to receiver.
- Have disabled Eco mode and run the built-in configuration for calibration as per evening time with some light on nearby. Colours pop on vivid setting but blacks are greys (compared to my panasonic plasma). During night its very good colors and contrast, if you really turn off all lights.
- Streaming movies from a Plex server works well. All movie metadata and art can be browsed and played from the projector directly.
- The other SmartTV apps and browser seems quite useless and slow, but you can browse other 'channels' like youtube from Plex from your plex server (a laptop in my case).
- Could not get WiDi working from android 4.2 phone to the device...the phone is unable to find the projector.
- MirrorOP (alternate screen mirroring technology) works quite well, a bit laggy, but good enough for videos and text.
- MirrorOP from windows works well. Is able to send out both video + audio.
- MirrorOP from iPad gen 1 works (needs to be jailbroken), bit slow. Is able to send out only video, audio still plays from the ipad. As per site, it's only supported on Ipad 2 onwards, so that may be the reason.
- MirrorOP from android requires a rooted phone.. mine is not, so it failed.
- Tried playing a 3D SBS test video from youtube... it automatically recognises it as 3D and switches format. It was quite interesting to see the video play as 2 separate segments with a line in the middle on the laptop screen, while a merged picture was appearing on the projection. You can also do 2D to 3D conversion of regular content. However I don't have 3D glasses, have ordered from eBay.
Thanks
