I need an online ups, no doubt about that.

APC now has a lithium based Online UPS available in India at 2X-3X the price of regular lead-acid based system.

Any thoughts on if this would be a worthwhile purchase wrt Sound Quality i.e would the current supply be cleaner by any chance?

Accoustics speakers and speaker cables ,Hdmi plays big role in sound quality. If all are good then we can go with power cables. Then if all done then we can with these ups.

We can even check with power conditiners for cleaner power supply.

I have used double conversion online ups before. Absolute must in some parts of the country. APC is a brand I have used before. The models have changed since so I do not know much about the current ones. The key thing to note is that they should be double conversion online. Many are noisy so they need to be kept out of the listening area. At your level, why not consider a PS Audio power plant ? They take care of even higher levels of gremlins and are made for audio.

If living in places where the power is polluted, the sound improves. It improved for me in an apartment in Bangalore. Biggest benefit was protection against spikes and dips.

I only need protection and also need 10-15 mins of UPS time so I can safely turn off the devices when the power cut happens. I run tube devices so am very paranoid about sudden loss of power to amps/preamp.

But also PS audio power plant seems to have mixed reviews, active power conditioners in general, I have a passive "power conditioner" that works very well, so am set in that department.

The ASR review of power plant was very damning, how has your experience been?

An online double conversion UPS makes a lot of sense with our erratic and noisy power grids.

When I was doing some research on them, I found some articles about how the last stage conversion from DC to AC again injects noise into the power supply. I dont know if this is true or not. One usually always find some bad mouthing about every product if one looks hard enough 😇 . But since you have some kind of passive power filter, then an online double conversion UPS should be a good choice to protect your equipment.

I've lost some expensive stuff to power outages, So I would never be without protection, even at the cost of sound quality if it comes to that.

Be it lithium or lead acid battery they are just sources of energy storage, lead acid will have a service life of 2-3year , lithium ion can have longer service life. This doesn't impact the AC output from the UPS.

I was just about to say the same thing :p. The output quality will depend more on the quality of the DC to AC Coversion, than the battery itself.

I'm using 1KVA online UPS for all my digital equipments which are plenty. Each one consume no more than 50w. Also, for amps I'm using isolation transformer as buying online ups just for class A monoblocks would have been very expensive.
As you said I needed a protection from voltage fluctuations and soft shut down of my sensitive digital equipments. If I get "purified" voltage from online ups that would be added bonus for me. Theoretically, it should improve the voltage as the double conversion is taking place but I'm no expert on this.

I have had a good experience with the regular line in ups powering my TVs. I got a samsung LED tv from states 14 years ago and attached a simple ups. It is still going strong. I bought a better ups for my oled tv in 2020 and hope it will also last many years.😀

A double conversion online ups should work for you. PS audio power products are essentially a better version of the usual double conversion online ups. The final DC to AC conversion and noise management is better than the normal ups. End of the day, it is about your situation and choices. Best option is the electricity that comes out of the wall. But what do you do if that is not good ?

ASR is probably comparing the normal wall AC in the USA to the output of the powerplant. And then the price to benefit ratio in that situation. The electricity from his wall may be very good. He should come and compare it to the electricity in a normal Indian wall outlet to the output of the powerplant for it to make any sense to us. Also we have the reality of catastrophic spikes that will end the life of an expensive equipment.

I have never heard a powerplant from ps audio but I know people who love it in their system.

Sorry if this is not helping :-/

Well ASR has dissed a lot of the equipment I use and loved...So no surprises there 🤣 🤣.

As you correctly mentioned, the back conversion from DC to AC is very important. And the PS Audio power plant I had, came with the option of choosing the output voltage ( 220 to 250V ) as well as output frequency ( 50 to 60 hz), so it was a power purifier cum stabilizer in one. And whatever it regenerated was definitely better than the crap coming out of my wall. I found the benefit very noticable on source components, but didnt make a difference on the power amps.

Hello @essrand
Happy listening.

Since your whole system is low watt consumption, you could look into taking the whole system off grid.

Wow! Thank you so much, I have been looking for a product like this (In USA they have Goal Yeti) to come to India for a long time, in fact was thinking of purchasing/trying out a Goal Yeti from Singapore.

This is perfect, going off the grid solves all my problems, I wonder how good their current is though, but hey! can't be worse than an online UPS.

Ecoflow delta 2 model is said to be better than goal zero yeti.

I think the above model can do 1800 watt current draw continuous till critical battery drain.
