placed order for 4+2 BDs

How's Excel Movie' BDs?? Picture&Sound?Watermark etc? Anyone Having?

Excel is JUST a Publisher in India, They didn't manufacture BDs, they have tie-ups with Hollywood Studios who sell their OWN manufactured BDs under EXCEL, here in India. check the screenshot below -

The Alien Anthology Steelbook from Excel which I own, has the movies licensed under 20th Century Fox, manufactured by Sony DADC India, & published by Excel. Thats some Collaboration !!:ohyeah:

Hope it clears your thoughts !

No problems with the one Excel BD I have, nor any watermark on it either.

The A/V is OK too since the movie I have does not appear to have been butchered and therefore remastered to comply with our eminent CBFC's restrictions. What will happen if Excel's or any other Indian media house's techs. get their hands on the media is something I don't intend finding out by buying media in India that is rated anything other than U.

As far as Excel DVD's are concerned, I've had problems with a couple of Excel DVD's and my Panny BDT-220 though they do play on other DVDP's. Again no watermark and good A/V quality.

The master and possibly the box must be sent from the US, but everything else is made here. The BD has to be censor certified in India, so it has to be made in India, logically. On which note, please check if your movie has cuts imposed on it- it's more than likely.

you mean Excel BDs are manufactured outside India ?

Howmuch Alien steel boxset cost?

No, Excel BD's Master copies & boxes (like Steelbook) are from Original Studios just like US & UK, the master copies are copied by Sony DADC India who has the factory, licenses & tie-ups with WB, 20th century fox etc. to manufacture Bds here in India. Then Excel just publish it after CBFC ratings.

Excel decide the pricing though.

By Alien Anthology costs me ONLY 1790/- here in India :ohyeah:

:) Know that feeling all too well. I went through that phase last year too. If you don't go broke, go for it, especially movies/shows that have repeat value and are priced good.

I can only imagine what bluraymaniac, just4kix or another FM who has several 1000 BDs/DVD's as also several other FM's must have felt like seeing all that money vanish. But hey, the pleasure you get out of reaching across the shelf and pulling off a pristine version of a great movie to kick back with whenever you feel like it is well worth it.

On a separate but related note,

Anybody here, have "The Great Escape" on BD, either the US/UK/IN versions? How about the PQ?

It is at a good price on FK The Great Escape -: Flipkart.com , but seeing the terrible reviews of the transfer on blu-ray.com, amazon.com etc. makes me hesitate to get this great movie.

I don't have thousands of discs :o - more like 285 BDs and about 200 DVDs.

Don't buy the Indian version of "The Great Escape" if the quality is reported to be bad.

Even I am looking for The Great Escape bd on flipkart. I also want to know about the quality.

Anyways, here's what I want to order. Can you guys point out if any one of these bds have bad quality and not worth buying even if it is damn cheap.

1. The Bridge on River Kwai
2. Gone with the Wind
3. The Shawshank Redemption
4. Enter the Dragon
5. Final Destination 5
6. Hostel
7. Exorcism of Emily Rose
8. Last Action Hero
9. Gothika
10. I Know What You Did Last Summer
11. The Magnificent Seven
12. Sixth Sense
13. Sign
14. The Great Escape

***Please here have suggested that the Indian released The Reader movie is heavily cut and had a very bad print.

That's quite a haul, no small number that.

The reviews of the international versions are rather bad too, so I guess, the IN version is not going to be any different. Pity, I loved that movie and remember skipping school ;) to watch it as a kid.

Blu-ray, Blu-ray Movies, Blu-ray Players, Blu-ray Reviews is your best bet for quality issues vis-a-vis international versions. The reviews on Amazon US and Amazon UK are helpful too. What I do is to view the customer reviews and then search for the string "blu" in the customer reviews to narrow the reviews down since Amazon tends to lump DVD reviews along with the Blu's. From your list, I know that the international releases of Magnificent Seven, Shawshank Redemption are good quality releases. Haven't looked at the others on blu-ray.com

For IN releases, Flipkart , Infibeam and Snapdeal reviews where available are the best bet since the IN releases sometimes, but not always tend to get mangled(see The Reader review on Flipkart) to comply with the CBFC.

I've only got U rated versions of IN releases since I think they are less likely to be mangled.

From my IN release haul of BD's, Life of Pi 3D, Pirates of the Caribbean (all three or four of them), A Few Good Men, Under the Sea 3D are all of good quality, no cuts as far as I can see. One of the POC BD's had a problem with the menu, but that was all. I've got Crouching Tiger and a couple or three more movies unwatched as yet. I will post back once I view them.
