Must Have Blu-Rays

Dear Friends,

I can assure you that 'marking as gift will not do any difference'

This week I got three packages [two on tuesday and one yesterday] - for the first time since i started ordering items from Amazon UK, they charged almost 4k for the two packages [8 and 14 titles each].

All these were marked as GIFT [Rarely i do so]

Postman sent me a notification slip which had the amount written by customs authorities, I went to the post-office and collected the items after making the payment.

May be bad luck

They didn't charge a single rupee for the one i got yesterday with 12 titles. :)

Have pre-ordered - LOTR extended edition [A bit worried about the fate :indifferent14: ]

The interesting thing I noticed was - For the items i paid duty were packed [re-packed] neatly - tied with a jute thread and sealed [wax seal]. The details about the duty was pasted over the package.

Where as till now all other items reached me was opened boxes [no one ever cared to seal it back = including yesterdays] - not a single rupee collected for these items by customs dept.

So getting BDs from amazon UK w/o customs depends purely on luck factor..

Heard that getting gifts worth less than 10K from abroad doesnt attract any customs. This law is not applicable here for the customs dept????? :indifferent14:

Just my opinion...you are willing to spends 1000s of Rs on the BR disks and not want to pay a small amount in customs. C'mon you can afford better than that...

Personally, I am not too much worried about customs duty. But the thing is that the customs duty policy is not consistent. The rules clearly state that any item worth lower than Rs. 10,000 and marked as gift should be duty free. However customs dept. is sometimes charging duty, sometimes not. If the policy was consistently applied then I have no issue.

When the rule allows gifting up to a limited value, why should I pay unnecessarily. Let us take an example. I have a Honda Civic car and I fill petrol @ Rs. 69/ltr. Today I am charged Rs. 100 extra (say as some service charge) on a total of Rs. 2500 of petrol. The person says, "Sir, you drive an expensive car. What is an extra Rs. 100 to you?". Is this justified?

Coming back to the topic ...

I am a big Trekkie and have all the Star Trek movies. Just received the 4 TNG films blu-ray box set.

Haven't got the original series on BD as yet and is on the buy list. Have the entire TNG series downloaded from net (which I am going to buy when it is released on BD).

waiting for Jurassic park trilogy....and can ne1 confirm whether the LOTR EXTENDED VERSION also have the theatrical cuts aswell....if not i did better wait for some ultimate version whr they have both.

Me too waiting for Jurassic Park BDs - the first two - the third was quite a drag and getting far fetched and repeatative.

As far as LOTR Ext is concerned, it is quite possible to have both editions on the same BD. Whether they will do that, one cannot say.

Unfortunately LOTR EE doesn't come with TE.

Good news for Bourne fans out there!

It is just GBP 11.64 (after VAT deduction) for the all trilogy bluray at amazon UK. Great bargain.

The price has just been reduced.
