I have finally finished my new Garrard 301 Turntable.
This has been in making for quite a few months. I acquired a 301 and 401 some time back and wanted to refurbish it on my own but to bring it to top notch condition I had to import all replacement part from UK. I got in touch with all UK resurbisment people including Loricraft, Audiograil and Classis Hifi.
Finally I decided to go with Ray from Classic HiFi and I feel he has done a very good job on building my machine.

I have upgraded the Chassis to his solid aluminium. Spindle/Bearling is also upgraded to Stainless Steel.

Chassis: Classic HiFi solid 301 Chassis with upgraded stainless seteel spindle bearing assembly Unit
Arm-1: Analogue Tube Audio Germany SME 3012 with various mods
Head Shell 1: Yamamoto HS-3
Cartridge 1: Ortofon Cadenza Red
Phono Cable: Jelco Red

Arm-2: Jelco 750D
Head Shell 2:Sumiko Black
Head Shell 3: Sumiko Grey
Cartridge2: Shure M97Xe
Cartridge 3: Shure M78S

I have not heard too many turntables, but mine sounds very good and I invite you to have a listen.

Here are some pictures.

Thanks for looking

Looking very, very good. Must be sounding very, very good as well.

Which phono stage(s) are you using?

I have the YS-Audio Concerto Plus MC which has the built in MC Transformer and EQ options for 78rpm records and other.

My Luxman has decent phono stage built in and I would be getting the Nighthawk this weekend. A friend is getting this for me.
I borrowed the Nighthawl from Malvai few week back and was very much impressed with the sound.

I do love to see a well-made "traditional" plinth of beautiful wood supporting a turntable.

Apart from speakers and TTs I resent too much money being spent on the presentation aspects, but for speakers and TTs it seems and feels right --- and looks wonderful :)

No words to describe your work....stunning!!

Btw, your B&W DM3000s have reached their final destination, my music listening room. They are going to my carpenter for a bit of woodwork and polishing, after which they'll settle down, in my new home. Recently I had an American visit our home and he was stunned to see these speakers. He remembered that they were quite expensive back in the day. He said, India was the last place on earth where he would have expected to come across this B&W model after all these years. They sound simply awesome. Thanks to you and Santhosh.

Vinay,
Fantastic TT you have made for your self. I would like to copy that dust cover for my build ....with your permission:). That 3012 modded by Analog Tube Audio sounds very good, even Abhi has the same. How much did the Jelco cost and from where?

I am glad they are with you my friend :).

Vinay,

What are the Sme 3012 mods? As far as I know they offer the bronze knife edge and the RCA connector. Anything else they do to the arm?

Regards
