My Garrard 301 Turntable - Classic Hifi UK Rufurbished with Solid Chassis

Hi Vinay ji,
It is wonderful restoration and looks top notch. The dust cover looks briliant. Can you pl pm me the shop/guy details, who has build the dust cover?
I am very tempted to visit your place for listening this TT.

Regards

Amit

Cybervinay, congrats !!
I too have that tonearm with ATA mod, but without bronze bearing. I would love to hear your thoughts about the Cadenza Red because I am considering it for my TT as well.

No words to describe your work....stunning!!

Btw, your B&W DM3000s have reached their final destination, my music listening room. They are going to my carpenter for a bit of woodwork and polishing, after which they'll settle down, in my new home. Recently I had an American visit our home and he was stunned to see these speakers. He remembered that they were quite expensive back in the day. He said, India was the last place on earth where he would have expected to come across this B&W model after all these years. They sound simply awesome. Thanks to you and Santhosh.

@Reubensm, DM3000 are wonderful speakers. You will enjoy them for long time. Please share the finished one after you are done with wood work and polish on them.

Vinay,
Fantastic TT you have made for your self. I would like to copy that dust cover for my build ....with your permission:). That 3012 modded by Analog Tube Audio sounds very good, even Abhi has the same. How much did the Jelco cost and from where?

@Santosh, No problems with making a copy of the one that I have made. As discussed with you I still need a good clamp to hold the dust cover. Currently I have made a temporary arrangement.

Vinay,

What are the Sme 3012 mods? As far as I know they offer the bronze knife edge and the RCA connector. Anything else they do to the arm?

Regards

@stevieboy, The SME arm from ATA has got the following MODs done.

?brand new Stainless steel armtube (genuine SME part)
?new lift unit (genuine SME part, it must changed because the old one was not compatible to the stainless steel armtube)
?Bronze knife edge bearing
?Bronze groundplate
?new internal wiring (Pure Silver Hair Wire)
?RCA Conversion Kit

Here are some of the original pictures which tempted me to buy this arm.

@Dr.Bass, Cadenza RED is good detailed cartridge but a little bright sounding. I am hoping it goes well with my tube setup.

Hi Amit

Dustcover is built by my carpenter based on my guidance. I will post details on the build once I get time. There is some effort but can be made. You will need to fugure out the hinges and mechanism to hold the cover for changing the record.

Hi cybervinay,

Great work and wonderful pictures - of the TT and the arm assembly. In one of your earlier pictures (in the first post), I see a centre weight. Is it a standard thing with this TT? I'd like to know your impression of the sonics with and without it?

Regards.

Hi,

Here are some of the original pictures which tempted me to buy this arm.

That is a Decca FFSS cartridge on the SME3012 mounted using the SME Decca adapter.

I did not think the Decca SME adapters were rare or expensive. Have to be careful with the one I have.

@Rajiv

Decca Cart does not come with the arm. He used it just for the picture.
Let me know if you are able to find a SPU as decent price. I may buy it in future but these are very expensive if found in good condition.

Vinay,HiFi-Do Japan has Ortofon SPU's at prices that are reasonable compared to other places.

SPU's without transformers are around $600.With transformers they are around $1000.

Yes I do keep checking on Hifi Do. There is SPU Gold for $748 is very tempting.
but will have to pass at this time.

Which transformer is recommended one? I will need one as my phono pre (ATC-1) has only MM input. How are the bigh O/P MC compared to MC with SUT. I have read people prefer the SUT option.
