My integrated amplifier search

Odyssey makes or used to make a minimalistic integrated amp called Cyclops that accepts one input. I've never had the opportunity to hear the amp but considering what others have to say about Odyssey amps in general, this has been on my wish-list for a while. Plus, the amp has such good specs that it should be able to control most speakers and sound musical.

ODYSSEY- I have recently seen this brand at Navi Mumbai (Vashi) with computer hardware shops. They have a mini Tower speaker too - ODSF 15000 - which is VERY GOOD - clear and low distortion, for the price its asking - Rs.6500/-. Now this is made by Compuage India... or so, and are you reffering to the same ODYSSEY brand?

Please do let us all know.

Nope! This is Odyssey audio from the US.

Odyssey Audio. Call us (317) 299 5578. IN, USA.

Naim can be bought from :
Dubai audio centre
Te. no. 3431441.

Please remember one thing. They do not keep 5i in stock. If you are planning to buy 5i, inform them in advance. As per dealer, 5i is not hot cake in Dubai. Hence they do not keep it in stock.

I'd second the A-S2000 provided the Paradigms are not bright.

Hi Sidvee, I have heard all of them. The MF is the worst of the lot. The exposure is the best of the lot...However the Naim Nait 5i (if you can pull it off) is a totally different planet altogether compared to any of these. You should be able to get one used under 60k.

I agree with Dr. Bass. Of the amps listed the Exposure sounds the most open and transparent. It retails for about 90k. The Yamaha 2000 is a welcome surprise. The reason it did not sell well is (in my view) that the dealer tried to package it with the complimentary CD player. As an amp it was available for 75k - i should know, I got 2 amps. The Yamaha might be nicer to have if you got difficult speakers and a largish room. It can really swing volts.

I have not heard the NAIM in a controlled environment (CES shows do not count) so can't express an opinion about them. The other brand that has been well received is the new Audiolab 8x00. If you going to Dubai I would short list this too.

Creek destiny 2 is 152k and creek 5350 is 105 k quoted. They will give 10% off. Reference point bangalore

That is inane pricing. How do they sell at this, price?

I have placed this search on temporary hold as I am planning to upgrade my digital source. So I will concentrate funds on my main system for now and revisit when that is complete. Thank you all for your valuable insights and suggestions. Highly appreciated.
Cheers,
Sid

how about the the ANTHEM intergrated 225!..based on the reviews it is netural sounding and has more than enough power to driver any speaker. 225w. retails for around 90-1lakh.check em out!

I have been researching integrated amplifiers for my bedroom based system. The source will be a musical fidelity xray cd player and xdac v3 DAC, along with a m2tech converter for FLAC files over my laptop. Speakers will be Paradigm Studio 20v3.

So far the shortlist stands at:
1. Rega Brio R
2. Exposure 2010s2
3. Musical Fidelity m3i

I am also considering tube based integrateds as well, but mostly leaning towards SS for fuss free listening.
Esteemed Fm's, kindly suggest any other options upto 1 lac.
Auditioning is going to be hard, except maybe the 3rd one because no dealers for others here in hyd, but since this system will be used for non critical listening, am hoping to get away with reading reviews and soliciting user opinions.
Cheers,
Sid

I have concluded building this system with the following components:
Source: Sony Vaio Laptop for FLACS & WAVS running Jriver MC19
Converter: M2tech Hiface
DAC: MF XDACV3 & XPSU
Preamp: Parasound JC2
Power amp: Belles Soloist 5
Speakers: Usher s520
Cables: Taral LabsRSC, Audio Art IC3se, QED XT Evo. ref.
Very happy with the sound, particularly the synergy between The Belles Soloist 5 and the Ushers with just enough warmth and great overall resolution, and Ushers sound better in this system than my older Paradigm Studio 20v3 (though Ushers have yet to break in as I just received them today). Pics. to follow in my system thread.
Cheers,
Sid

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
