My Living Room renovation pics..- Lot of pics- so execuse me.

I find theils good with movies as well, so you may consider removing the Jamos.
When buying thiels, my idea too was to have just one pair of speakers in the living room. If I wanted two sets of speakers, I would have taken lyrita harmony and kept my JBLs.

However, right now I am switching amps each time I want to listen to music.

This should be fixed once my active GR Research sub comes into play. I am using my stereo NAD C375 as subwoofer amp :) I hope that would burn it in enough.

Yes, i want to use it for both. But i am not happy with my present AVR 7002 which is not producing much power to drive the thiel.:)

I was also thinking that you replace the LR channels with theils but thought about the power handling by the AVR. Plus surround sound is about coherence and it is better if all the drivers are of the same make for better synergy of surround effects.

All this pep talk means that you need a TOTL AVR and a theil centre channel at least.

Oh no.... Not now.. I agree with your points but thinking of going for slim wall mount for LR Surrounds and of-course eyeing for Thiel HT on-wall package too if i could afford and get with good discount.

Present Epos center is fantastic and have superb voice clarity and throw.

Settle for a 'higher' Harmon Kardon AVR this time around. Very good ratings given to the 3600 model 'or higher' from HK in the Navi Mumbai meet.

Had some free time last week and thought of doing some housekeeping(re-arranging + wire management which never ends).

Added to the chain with Bryston BDA-1 DAC.

Room looks more like a retail AV outlet ..... :p

Precisely my thoughts too.:p

Pity, Capt Rajesh could not make it during his brief halt over in Delhi, otherwise he could have given 'the' much-awaited verdict. :D

Yeah too bad, I couldn't make it. I'm back now to home sweet home.:)

To me these are precious jewels so this looks like a jewelery shop!:D

Congrats, congrats, congrats.
The last two are for your forthcoming upgrades:D

Man you do spend a lot. I think now you should look at better acoustic treatment of your room.

Thanks...:):):)

Yes, next step instead of AV upgrade is only an Acoustic treatment for the room(living room).. I visited decibel last week and the HT they have done is quite impressive. May be if it is not patented i can copy the design to my taste and to suit my room.:p

Regards

Keeping those floor standers in the corners of your room will greatly affect the sound of your two main speakers. They act as membrane filters/absorbers and can even spoil the low frequency performance.

Have you tried playing music without those speakers and the comparing the sound to when the other speakers are also there in the room ?

Yes, i have done various testing at different position(like keeping right/Left just back /removing from the place itself ) and also in present position and to my knowledge i have not lost any details. May be critical listners can feel the difference. Since i jumped from HT to Stereo i could not make out much difference.:)

My change in Stereo setup - Tube based

Just updating this thread for change in stereo setup.

Recently I changed my Solid state Stereo setup into complete tube based setup. After trying the Cayin integrated with my Thiel CS1.6, hooked in to tube based amps and on the look out acquired Quicksilver Mid mono amplifier from our forum member "Sidvee".

When i decided to buy the Thiel CS1.6 months back, i have taken advice from sidvee about it and went ahead on purchasing the same. May be i could have asked about the pairing amps too which i did not. On various miss and hit for matching the thiel on hearing the Cayin amp with my thiel then decided tube is the way to go.

When i decided to look out for tube amps, Sidvee assured me Quicksilver mid mono will drive my Thiel CS1.6 effortlessly. On his words and also advice from Rajiv took the plunge deeply into tube mono blocks. The mono's were very well packed by Sidvee and delivered thru GATI in a very safe manner. Packed as below.;) Packing stuffs were 4 times the size of amps.

Now I am happy with the current setup which was tried with the Lyrita DHT Pre which Rajiv brought and it has done the magic of transforming my setup into an complete tube sound along with the source squeezebox touch + Einstein cables. Also looking for murali_n for finishing his conrad johnson tube pre for an trial.

Changed the EL34 tubes with Electro harmonix KT88 and it improved the dynamics and now happy with the setup.

More details and on review of the amps shall be shared by visited members.

Posted here too : Quicksilver mid mono.

Srini,
The quickies are looking awesome with the Kt88's. One piece of advice when you get the time. I ordered a set of 6 brass footers from Magma (Ali of Soundfoundations), which I tested under the quickies. To my ears, the bass felt tighter and overall dynamics felt improved. It is a fairly low cost tweak so do try it when you get a chance.
Cheers,
Sid
