Hi! Had you shortlisted the Wharfedale Atlantic 400 or the Klipsch F1 as well? I heard the Atlantic 400 last week at Designer Audio and was really enthralled. The bass was great and they also had good depth.
Is there any place where I can hear the Paradigms and compare them to the Klipsch and Altantic? Does The Den stock these?

=================================================

Nitish,

I had not shortlisted the Wh Atlantic or the Klipsch F1.

The Den stocks the paradigms and kefs i saw there... Pls contact Pawan at 9821289308 if interested.

have a dekko...

I have personally used a Class T amp (korean made) with Paradigm Atom Monitor - tried this in Grand Cinema. The nature of the Atom and with a class D the first thing that struck me was clarity. As it sounded like there is so much details available. But I am sure I could not have listened to them for a long period. We actually tried it with Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 as well but it couldn't drive them well because of the lesser sensitivity. Interestingly while Atom series is bright the Paradigm Studio I heard at sidvee's place is quite mellow.
In short while it might be easy to drive I doubt Paradigm Monitor would go well with a Class T amp.

psychotropic,
I couldn't comment earlier on your Nad vs Topping thread. But I can understand why some might prefer Class T over NAD. NAD (that too the junior models) is not about detail. Its a more heavy and slightly dark sound. The Class T seems to be more about precision and particularly they seem to not have enough power for the lower registers. Its like the opposite of NAD. Particularly for the Ushers you had a class T might sound a better pairing. However, for me while the class T was great for the price the NAD seems to rock more.

Gopi, I have used the Sonic Impact T amp with a JM Reynaud Twin peaker pair for quite a few months.. I found the Bass uptill around 45Hz to be very good and strong...but the treble was grainy... the midrange was surprisingly good.

i agree on the NAD 320 series. it is dark and Warm and a bit rolled off in the treble.

Paradigm......This is one brand I had a fixation on for a long time although I never got around to buying one.

The studio 20 ver3 is supposed to be one of the best value for money bookshelf loudspeaker with hi-end aspirations out there. And it costs roughly 900$ :o

Here's a review of the Signature S2 Loudspeakers on soundstage by Doug Schneider

SoundStage! Equipment Review - Paradigm Reference Signature S2 Loudspeakers (6/2004)

He is all praises for the best bookshelf speaker paradign can build and it costs 2000$. He can't find a single flaw in the loudspeaker !

I wonder !

arj,
what was the sensitivity of your speakers. Its possible that Sonic Impact was a better one than the one I tried. But I felt as though it didn't have the power to drive the Paradigm. So, if your speaker was above 90db then its possible that it worked better at the lower registers because of that.

Gopi, they were 89db 4 ohm speakers.. But the Sonic impact gives 15W (10W with acceptable distortion) while only 6W with 8 Ohm speakers...maybe that could be the reason.

I currently own the studio 20v3 which were the rear speakers in my 7.1 set up of the studio series. Since my HT is smaller than before I am using only 5.1. Regardless, yes the studio 20v3's are excellent front channel speakers as well, though IMO they are quite neutral and do not sound too exciting if someone prefers that kind of sound. This characteristic IMO makes them xcellent HT speakers as well, what with all the bright sounding movie tracks.

vortex,

am using the Titan Monitors as fronts for my HK AVR 255.

Looking for a budget 2 ch amp - stereo - to drive the 2 fronts now. ( Maybe Topping.. what say u ? )

mpw

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

have been listening to the Titan Monitors for about a week now. Listened to music from :-

( Volume level minus 45 to minus 30 )

Dire Straits - Heavy Fuel - yes you can listen to the cymbals on 22 seconds quite clearly - psychotropic
U2
GNR
Indian Instrumental - Rahul Sharma
Hindi Movie sound tracks ( ARR etc.. )
Explosions in the Sky - this is .. well.. a different kind of rock

The HK AVR 255 + Titans are doing fine.

Using this as a pure 2.0 for now. Havent roped in the JBL subwoofer. Dont feel like. Maybe this week i will get a nice DVD and watch a movie just to work the "sleeping sub" a bit.

Now i am thinking about a 2 ch amplifier for this.. open to suggestions..even used ones. Dont have much to spend. The Parasound 275 costs 40K in Mumbai and cant afford that by a mile !!

:-((

mpw

Hi,
I agree with square_wave that Paradigm Signature series speakers are really very very good.
I had a chance to hear the smallest Signature S-1 a sealed tiny speaker with Conrad Johnson solid state amp. And it sounded fantastic. I was about to buy it but controlled my emotions at last moment. It won The Absolute Sound budget speaker of the year award a few years back.
Even S-2 is very good as square_wave mentioned.

hey ,

any thoughts on weather a 2 ch amplifier ( like norge ) from my AVR pre outs going to fronts would make a significant impact on sound from my speakers ? My AVR currently pumps our 66W at 8 ohms in stereo mode. Maybe a Norge with a 80 W output or 100 W can sound better or do i have to go in for something even more powerful ? My Titan Monitors are very sensitive speakers 92db. The sound gets quite loud even at -25 db volume position.

Alternately i could opt to drive these with the Parasound 275 ( someone i coming from the US and i can request ). This is a "Class D amplifier ) 75W output.

What say you ? Thre Norge option is cheaper but wont have sub woofer option ( i know in pure stereo its 2.0 ) but other amps may have the flexibility of 2.1.

I am quite satisfied with the Titan Monitors. The song "Grace " by U2 sent a shiver down my spine when i heard it on these

Dude,

Check out Telome amps as well, they have the sub option that you are looking for, well priced too.

Congrats on your purchase, mpw.. Do post some pics.

Mpw, I am sure a stereo amp is gonna make a difference to music thru your speakers!
Scout the market for a used Marantz, Nad etc Or try to audition Norge.

================================================

considering my AVR 255 does 65W at 8 ohms on 2 channel mode.. by how much more wattage should a stereo amp justify the purchase ?

For example the NAD326BEE claims 40W output.. while i am already doing 66W on my HK AVR 255. Then how would this justify the purchase of NAD326 ?

Am told both HK and NAD present ratings very copnservatively.

mpw, Your set up and your house look very beautiful.

As for your previous query, dont go by the wattage numbers. Dont even compare the wattage of your AVR with a stereo amp. The 55wpc Pioneer stereo amp in my signature seems to have double the drive of the Onkyo avr which claims a highly suspicious 130w(iirc).
Your speakers are rated at 93db and you would do fine with a 40w Nad/marantz/ca etc
you could also check out the Norge range.

mpw - I second iaudio, your setup looks very beautiful. But I will venture to say that if you could get the speakers to separate stands and get more space in between them, then you will experience better sound.

thanks i audio , vortex and form members for liking my setup.

Vortex - thats what i am upto these days.. trying to get a good carpenter to extend my wooden AV rack as i have a 4 month son who i expect to be quite a handful atleast for 3 years more till he begins to understand.

Therefore although i would love one of Magma's lovely speaker stands .. i will have to make do with my wooden AV rack extension. Just today i put plastic sticker bumbers under the Titan Monitors.

What do you guys think of a used 2 ch NAD C270 at Rs 17k ? Batter than Norge series ? Cant stretch my budget beyond 17k at most
