Hi,

I'm from kolkata, and this is my 1st post in this forum hope this is right section to post such queries,if not Mod's please move the post in the correct section.

I want a HT/AVR/Speaker system which I need to hook my Samsung 40 LCD panel.

Budget :- 25k-27k

Usage as I currently own:-

A DVD Player (OutPut) :- Component/Composite/Coax
Cable STB:- (OutPut) Composite [will change to Bigtv PVR which have HDMI/Component before October]
WDTV HD Player (Composite,HDMI,Optical)

Now all above product hook up to the TV and they can function as the mode is select. As my budget permits I have 2 option in my mind

Logitech Z5500 = 16.2k+tax (easily available)

Onkyo HT-S3200= Heard it falls in my budget, Can anyone know where to find good deal as we don't have Croma/reliance store in kolkata.

I want to know which one to go for as

Z5500 have poor connectivity (Optical,Coax), 10 Sub 188 watts RMS,69 watts RMS in center,62 watt RMS in other four.

3200 have huge connectivity, 8 Sub 130W RMS (please correct me) and 120 W RMS is other five.

Please correct me RMS ratting of HT-S3200....

In this point my que Is it worth considering Onkyo over logitech ?

Now if u prescribe HT-S3200 then I have several que;

1.As I read everywhere it has HDMI pass through, Can I use the TV as a center hub not the receiver ? My TV have optical out(and 3.5 audio out...No Red,White RCA out)....If I connect everything in the TV and send Audio via optical to the Receiver what I missed ?

2.As my DVD have......
Composite Can I route the Video Signal (Yellow) to the TV and Sound Signal (Red & White) to the receiver ? The same query goes to using component out. Routing Video Signal to the TV (Red,Green,Blue) and Sound to the (Red & White) receiver ?

3.Are 3200's Sub is as powerful as 5500s ? I have heard 3200 contain passive subs, what does that mean? As a layman point of view Am I need to worried ?

This the most vital part for me.....As far as I gathered knowledge by reading on the net, If the Sub is weak the whole system can't produce good sound,no matter how good the rest of speaker are...Is it right ?

Please enlighten anything else I missed As I'm new when comes Home Theater or such things.

Thanks in advance. Please suggest I'll be wrap this thing before June 15th.

P.S:- I'm aware of this fact that HT-S3200 can't upscale any video signal as it don't have any video processor, where almost any Denon can do, but thats are out of my budget.

Even I am from Kolkata. and have the same requirement.
I went to ezone, and they had the 3100. Now, according to them the only difference between 3100 and 3200 was the hdmi video pass though. (Now, I really dont know if he is right, please correct me guys).
But if that's the case, the its advisable to go for 3100 only and later upgrade the subs etc... (Since my LG 50 PQ60 already has 3 hdmi slots) Would that be a good idea?

Onkyo 3300 is about to launch at MRP of Rs.25,000/-. Search this forum, someone has already booked it for 23k.

It is much much better choice than Onkyo 3100/3200. It has 3 HDMI inputs 1.4a/3D and supports Dolby True-HD and DTS HD-MA.

AFAIK Digital Acoustic and Promises deal in Onkyo in Kolkata. You can call them and find out.
Regards.

Thank you.....After a long wait, so much reply in 1 day.....

But I don't think 3300 will retail 25k in place like kolkata....but if yes the most VFM for sure.

3300 comes with HDMI 1.4a...my all device are HDMI 1.3.....Is it compatible ?

Yes, all your 1.3 devices are compatible with 1.4a.

In kolkata or anywhere else in India, the MRP is same (25k) you can get cheaper also but not more than 25k. :)

Guys

the 3100, 3200 and the new 3300 which is about to be launched don't have a powered subwoofer right? I am not sure about the Logitech Z-5500. I have used the Z-680 for 2 years and this unit used to connect from the subwoofer (power plug) to the wall outlet. The decoder and speakers used to connect to the back of the subwoofer. So I assumed the subwoofer was powered. The sound was pretty good though. At least I liked it.

---Venkat

P.S. - The Z5500 for 16.5k is a fantastic price!

Hey there, nice to see you on this forum ;) the only 3300 does indeed sound like a good option, hold out for it, dont give in ;)

I post 3 days ago here but no one bother to reply as I thought experts are tired to answer about low-end system.....so I remain silent. Today this query is replied.

As I also post in Yahoo Answers! User name "anshu" was the fast person told me that wait for 3300 which VFM over other two will soon land in indian soil.

Thank You corElement, Thanks a lot....for teaching me the basic of AVR and how someone can build a system of his/her dream in other forum.

Yes,AVR like 3xxx have passive woofer which is not very upgrade friendly (correct me),but I decided to to step in AVR world with this series...as 3300 is knocking the door of the Indian prospective buyer I'll defiantly wait.

It is far better to sleep with Onkyo AVR rather than wake up in the morning with a dead Z-5500's Digital Touch control.

Anyone feel free to write about my above opinion. (please I noob in the AVR seg, I need info)...and I'm Logi's Loyal customer(Pure Fi Express plus,MK 250,X-540,10ft HDMI {Harmony 525 soon})..

oh that was you on yahoo? well u r welcome. and now you have come to the right source hifivision. lot of experts here. certainly learnt a lot here. i am gonna wait for the 3300 too

^^ thanks man.

Called Up Promise Instruments (2283 6290 <---only this no. works)

HT3200 = 33,000/- with bundled offer /lady don't want to clear the price over phone

HT3300 = Not Released (Maybe news in next week)

HT6200 = 49,900/- (incl all)

So I decided to wait and will visit the showroom for audition after release the new 3300.

Now the question, What about HT-S5300 ? How the sub ? If 5300 price is 40K up, will you ppl recommend to invest in HT-6200 ?

Please reply

I think the price of the 3200 is 23000, cant be 33.

In regards to the sub, To be honest..
for a consumer such as yourself, it is less of a headache.
Acoustically you wont be able to make out "that" much of a difference unless you go to multiple stores and audition dozens of models. Because even subs which are 25k... they're only say 35% better than the one in onkyo htib, saying that.. the sub in onkyo htib sxxx series is definitely one of the best budget htib subs. GOOD subs start from 40k.

Mind you, a sub isnt everything, and your budget decides a large factor.
sub is only 80hz and below. in case of logitechs theyre 120 and below. Med range is far more important and the onkyo offers you better medrange.

They key factor youre looking for here is

logitech sub 30-120hz fixed
onkyo 3300 Subwoofer 30 Hz150 Hz variable through avr crossover
^ is a major thing in sound quality, you set the crossover for the sub in the avr to 60 and the quality of sound will improve a lot compared to a fixed 120hz on logitech.

Infact, I would say with the 8" high efficiency passive driver you dont even need to change it, rather, in time say a few years, get a pair of cambridge audio sirocco s70 towers for 17k for front left and right. but even if you dont get them youll be set and future proofed with the onkyo 3300.

I checked the price on phone with Onkyo dealer in New Delhi. HT3200 is for 25K (should come down to 23K after bargaining. As per the dealer, HT3300 will be available next week for same price.

Here is the manual page of 3300 sub:-

5300 sub:-

6200 sub:-

Fast thanks corElement, again give me a useful/knowledgeable post, most probably a comparison with logitech's sub freq, which I googled last couple of months but no good.

6200's sub & 5300's sub almost same except height & weight AFAIK,

Yes your recommendation is top-notch no-doubt..It will be dream setup adding 2 towers in front.....but here in kolkata, I don't think I will find cambridge series you are mentioning and if I find it will not going squeeze below 17k x2 =34K. As in West Bengal(only) there is Huge Tax implication on Electronics Goods named as Road Permit. Those who bought/import Large size Dell Monitor / Generator Set knows very well, what I'm talking about.
See Onkyo products are also quoting high coz of this reason. A well known fellow member Sam9s bought HT-6200 many months ago got 47k including oxyfree cable...but in kolkata 6200 still cost 49.9k.

Now due to in-availability / no-option for kolkata

My question here;

1.I'm totally convinced about 3300's feature and I'll at least try to grab one....But is it not true that...5300/6200 sub's have superior 25Hz-150Hz freq range as well as more superior AVR...I mean power output section...

2.5300/6200 sub's have 290Watt Dynamic Power....but there was always some shades about 3xxx sub's output power declaration.....why Onkyo ? What about RMS ratings...Can anyone provide any link about RMS ratings of following sets.

3.I found 5300 (7.1) is the same as upcoming 3300 (5.1) as it have 3D TV support as well as HDMI 1.4a and some audio back or what ever and On Screen AVR configuration if connected with HDMI.

For me last month I just bought 40C550 which neither a 3D TV nor have HDMI 1.4 so what the future-proof option I can use after getting x3xx series system ?

At standing this point don't you think I'll better of with other sets, say 6200 if budget permits.

4.Don't remember where read the 5300 is 73k,will you recommend it over 6200 which is 50k...please clarify.

My Micro HT Setup Review ?Onkyo 6200 HTiB, LG LH70 47 LCD, Panasonic BD60 BRp? - Digit's Technology Discussion Forum <----

Here the famous member SAM9s told, It can satisfy the bass hungry ppl,( I admit I'm Bass Hungry) and during search some ppl feedback that 3200's sub sound muddy and so...3200's sub = 3300's sub isn't ?

Please clarify....
