Hi Audiophiles,

Please suggest me a good AMP for my Wharfadyle Crystal 40
Right now I am using a Marantz CD-4000 and Denon PMA 360 and ROTEL RP3000

I am looking forward to upgrade my existing set up.

I think my curiosity lies with PM8004 but let me know your suggestion.. I want this upgrade to last for a long time.

I am also considering Marantz PM5004 + Marantz CD5004 because of the deal in hifimart.com for 30000 which is great..

On the other hand PM6004 is also good for its price..If cost is not a constrain.. should i settle for PM8004 is it worth spending extra 25000 when compared to PM6004. please advise... for 25000 you can get a Yamaha A-S500 please let me know your suggestion guys..

I have another question. I am right now using MX OFC cables (1 meter is 125rs) the cable seems to be doing a good job.. but if you guys have any suggestion for the cable upgrade please let me know. is it recommended to use a Thick cable like the one i have right now.. or sleek cables are good.. let me know..

I have Marantz PM7001 (older version of PM8004). PM7001 is brilliant. Listened to PM5003 once side by side with PM7001 once. There was no competition. PM7001 was a complete winner in my ears. PM7001 has a very good phono section also.
So if budget is not a problem PM8004 will be better (assuming PM8004 and PM7001 are similar) choice.
But you can buy PM7004 also. PM7004 and PM8004 are similar amp but PM7004 costs less. But before purchase please listen to the amps coupling with your speaker for an extended period.
For cable MX is more than enough. Don't spend your hard earned money on imported high end cables. But ensure the MX is of thicker gauge (12 gauge). I also use MX speaker cable in my system.
Regards,
Partho.

@Cryptbala, apologies for hijacking your thread with this single query.

@partho, I am contemplating between PM7004 and 6004. From your comments, I understand 7004 is wayyy better than 5004 but any clue on 6004 vs. 7004? The difference in price comes close 8-9k between these two models. And how well would you say 7004 can drive something like Paradigm's Studio 60? I am on Monitor series right now but would like NOT to upgrade my amp again and again as I move up the ladder (in the near future).

I donot have any idea about Paradigm speakers. My Marantz PM7001 drives Dynaudio Audience 52 bookshelf nicely and drives my 6 ohm Monitor Audio Silver RS1 bookshelf outstandingly well. Audience 52 is a 4 ohm speaker and is very difficult to drive. But Marantz PM7001 is driving it nicely. So I hope PM7004 can also drive Paradigm nicely. Best thing is you carry the speaker and play with a demo PM7004 amp.
PM5003 and PM6004 are similar amps. PM6004 have toroidal transformer and better components than PM5003. I've heard that PM6003 & PM6004 sound good. But because of low power they will not be able to drive difficult load properly. If budget is not a problem higher power PM7004/PM8004 will be far better in long run.
Also PM7004 is a made in Japan amp. My PM7001 is made in China. But I'll request you that before purchase you listen to both PM7004 and PM6004. May be PM6004 will appear sweeter in your ears.

Partho.

@partho After lot of consideration.. i have come to conclusion and placed my order for PM7004 today.. i got it for 46000 is this a good price or not.. how much you got it for...

@Partho what is the CD Player you are using.. I am planning to use CD6004 with my PM7004 what is the player used when you went for audition..???also tell me whether CD6004 goes well with PM7004 ;)

Have a PM7004 with CD 6004..sounds good and a well balanced tonality. PM6004 is 45wpc may be inadequate for power hungry speakers. (The 7004 is adequate for my Rx6, though I feel the urge for a even higher power amp even with my Pm7004).
