Its time too move from 32inch to 47+ size

I am still in a dilemma whether I shud stick with LED/LCD TVs or try out Plasma's.

My needs are:

1. Screen >47inches
2. Should be able to watch 3D for atleast the movie duration without having headache.
3. Should not be a power guzzler >200W (ST30 is on the border line ~ 210W)
4. Should take care of video format thru USB and not force me to buy media player.
5. Should also serve me for atleast 4-5 years and not conk off due to poor build quality or panels.
6. Should be compliant with gaming consoles (PS3 as future inclusion)

Dark Horse Contender: Sammy P51D550. Infact in many of the forums Sammy is said to be more VFM with comparable features to ST30. The area where it lags is on connectivity and black levels. I would not mind saving some bucks here. Lighting can be controlled in my room.

Please advise which one is better and where to get best prices in NCR? I am also open buy from Gaffar if anyone can refer a good dealer there.

I know I havent mentioned anything on picture quality but most of the time it will be used on TS HD DTH (80%) and remaining for HD movies.

Thanks.

If you are going to watch HD contents mostly , then ST30 is good choice, also in regards to 3D , it has fast phosphor and best 3D active shutter glasses (costly though).

Many here first are glued to 3D content , but later we all resort normal viewing , as the 3D hype fades away. So IMO give more importance to PQ. Also ST30 has almost flicker free while viewing 3D contents or to say , has the least flicker in active shutter segment.

ST30 sure is a power guzzler and since its plasma , you need to atleast wait for 2-3 months before you can play some games (break-in period)

ST30 does play most of the formats . My ps3 had little problem with SBS 1080p video , while ST30 played it fine.

ST30 comes with 1+2 years warranty and imo build quality is pretty good.

D550 is also a good choice.

viewed 3D content in LG and they are good and wont give much head-ache , but dont know much about PQ in general

How does it fare when using SD DTH content?

Did you evaluated D550 before zeroing on ST30? If so what were major factors?

How much increase in power bill is expected if the plasma TV runs for around 6-8 hours a day?

Well, honestly - if u don't go by the plasma hype, i think LG 47 incher is better both in PQ and peace of mind!

I haven't looked at 47 LG but 55LW5600/6500 but finally settled for ST30 and I am happier

I had a 42" LW5700 which I sold after 5 months of usage and bought the VT20. I've had the VT20 for almost 6 months now. The post below has my observations comparing the two.

http://www.hifivision.com/televisio...t30-versus-samsung-ps51d550-4.html#post301955

Since I posted that comparison, I've watched several blu-rays on the VT20, played through 2 full games (Uncharted series). Here are some additional observations.

I see judder at times on the VT20 watching TV on the my TataSkyHD. I have the motion interpolation on at all times and like most such algorithms, it's not perfect. I've also noticed that the judder varies from program to program. Some have perfect motion and some not so much. I've not seen any motion issues on Blu-Rays so I'm tempted to assume it's mostly source/format related.

Blu-Ray playback on the VT20 is near flawless. I usually look out for issues, but can't find any in Blu-Ray playback on the VT20. I wish the blacks were blacker still though one can never have too deep blacks. :-)

Gaming is a pleasure on the VT20. I haven't noticed any lag while playing the Uncharted series. On the LG, there was some lag, though it might or might not affect you depending on how much and how competitively you game.

3D on the VT20 is not as comfortable as the LG Cinema 3D. It's more taxing on the eyes. On the plus side, I haven't seen any obvious crosstalk on the VT20 and 3D PQ is great, albeit less bright than the LG.

I think I should also bring in Sony LED's for their all round performance and opt for better 2D picture quality set than solely focusing on only 3D TV.

Yesterday I took demo of Panny 50ST30, i just could not watch its 3D for even 2-3 mins at a stretch. I felt like having headache and for some reason every 10 seconds there was a second or two of juddering of flickering of screen (watever the term) which really broke my confidence and passion of owning a 3D set.

I think I will go for tried tested and trusted Sony 46EX520 or at the max EX720. Can anyone tell is it safe to buy from Gaffar and what prices should I expect.

I think this is because of the frame rate difference issue between the actual source and the transmission format. No TV can avoid this unless you correct / change the source or the transmission.

Try watching comedy central on VT20 , judder all over ....

Recently airtel came out with new feature called " clipping noise " on some channels.:mad: :annoyed:
