Today I called to Panasonic Brand shop for the availability of 42X50D. The Panasonic guy said the TV hasn't came till now but one offer has came with 42XT50D.

The offer is:

Panasonic 42XT50D + 5.1 Home theater (DVD included) + one 3D glass for price 48K.

This offer is only in Panasonic brand shop.The home theater will come after one month after your purchase.

Should I go with this offer? I am desperately waiting for your comment...

Thanks

Manish

The HT is an entry level one. You can always sell it to someone else for a little lesser price than 14K and thus offset your cost price.

Well the offer looks good for sure, if you can get it for 45K - that would be awesome... anyways take the plunge...

No comment from Owner of this TV???
In my opinion, Panasonic holds an edge when it comes to plasma. I am no owner and neither have I seen them (XT50 and 43D450) side by side; BTW, the 43D450 is probably an old model; Samsung website shows three models - 43E490, 43E470 and 43E400.

The reason for my statement is because I was recently in the Panasonic showroom and looking at TataSky HD on 50ST50 and 50XT50.

a) At a distance of 8-10 ft, the 1080i quality on ST50 was equivalent to XT50; only with the letters/sub-titles one could make out.
b) At a distance of 5 ft, the quality was appreciably better in ST50 as expected.
c) When watching Star Plus HD, Star World HD (soaps, dramas, comedy), the quality was near equivalent. When watching HD sports, ST50 looked better (or maybe my subconscious told me St50 was better).
d) Watched 1080p blu-ray rips and Panasonic demo blu-ray - ST50 was definitely better but at 8+ feet it was not like chalk vs. cheese.

Having said all that, it tells me that Panasonic has vastly improved the X/XT series and brought a good choice for entry level plasma. I have not looked at the Samsung 4 Series (E series) plasma models closely. But if the price is equivalent, I will stick to Panasonic simply because of the 3 years of panel warranty.

Panasonic would be better but have a look at the tv's yourself and then decide.

I am not able to compare side by side because no showroom keeps this two TVs at same place. But I have compared 50X30D and 51D450 and I observed that later one was better. Again I have compared 42X30D, 42U30D and 42XT50D and I found XT better. A bright and less reflective panel. Some user also said in this forum that both X30 and D450 have same reflection panel. I am not an expert. You seem an expert. You can tell in more detail and depth. And also I want to know the most reliable brand between Panasonic and Samsung for entry level Plasma.

Last, I have one doubt that this TV is available in Canada for price 750$ (750 x 56 = 42K) and TV is available in India for Rs 48K.

Why Panasonic kept the price so high for this TV in India.

Why Panasonic kept the price so high for this TV in India.

I said in another post. We cannot compare prices just like that. US/Canada have one of the lowest import duties. TV's meant for the US market are devoid of many international features such as universal voltage(110~240V/50-60 Hz), worldwide TV system (PAL all formats/SECAM all/NTSC all), etc.

On the other had, India has high import duties, the rupee has depreciated a lot, we have taxes on taxes:

[A] = base import price
= import duty on [A]
[C] = Excise duty on [A]+
[D] = VAT on [A]++[C]
[E] = Transportation Cost/Cartage
[F] = Octroi on [A]++[C]+[D]+[E] in some cities in MH

Yeah definitely 3 year warranty make me more comfortable while deciding a TV but at a same time the price of Panasonic 2012 model is much more than that of Samsung. e.g. 43E70 cost around 36k and 42X50 cost 43K. The cost of X30 is Rs 33500.

The 10K extra on extra 2 years of warranty is well deserved in my opinion.

Samsung is offering a free 3D BDP with a 3D BD of Shrek 3 (I believe). Panasonic is offering a DVD HT 5.1 system. For me, Samsung's offer is more attractive.

It is really a difficult choice.

I have the similar dilemma of 50ST50 vs. 51E550 - 105-110K vs. 74-78K. But all things considered, I am going with ST50.

This is such a useful post and review for so many of us to help decide how to go for a model in budget and what difference/similarities you can expect. I have only seen XT50 models and U30s in showrooms so wasnt able to make this comparison like you could.

ST50 will surely matter at home when you can have reflection and then neopdp panel will show its worth, ofcourse other features are awesome as well.

A better brand for plasmas (Panasonic), a new & better panel (XT50) & peace of mind (3 yrs warranty) makes this choice easier if you can afford it. However, it all depends on how you feel about it - Samsung is a big company and with better after sales service... you cant go wrong with them either..

I think 3D BDP is being offered only with 3D models of Samsung Plasma, not with every model... and are you sure DVD HT 5.1 is a panasonic offer and not dealer offer that you got?

No comparison buddy - ST50 is a class ahead. Also 1 yr warranty is a spoiler for Samsung. ST50 better Blacks, PQ etc etc make it a winner...
