Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:)

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

So smartdnsproxy free period is coming to an end, in this regard do anybody have any free DNS service now ..?...

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Their yearly subsription is pretty cheap. I did not use their services much but 20 dollar for an year looks attractive and cheap.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

SmartDNS coming to an end on 12 May for me ... :( ... and frankly smartdns has been the best dns service I have used, and trust me I have tried every single one of it discussed in this thread. UnblockUS was the only one that was working for me with 720p. SmartDNS provides me 720p even though I have (unwillingly coz no airtel here :(), downgraded my net speed from 8mbps to 4mbps ......

I am seriously considering purchasing the yearly plan, coz the current special offer of 20USD seems a steal deal .......

I second that. SmartDNSProxy and my Apple Tv working like a charm. I am also thinking of going with the ~$20 yearly plan. Even in my laptop with the scrappy silverlight plugin I am seeing HD quite frequently. Also got tired of searching for a "free" stable DNS service. I think will take the plunge soon.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

@sam , does the DNS provide has to do with 720/1080 streaming? I thought it has to do with your bandwidth....pls let me know if otherwise...

Sam i agree, though i did not get to use smartdns much, but as my bluray player was not working with it i did reach out to their support and the response was good, they took time but resolved the issue and finally my sony player worked with it. They also have a referral scheme on so if anyone is planning to take the yearly plan, can use my referral link below.

Bandwidth is only half the game, specially with Netflix, not only does what kind of DNS service you are using effects the same, but what kind of hardware, plus how efficient/optimized is the Netflix app you are running makes a huge difference as well (like WD TV Live, PS3, Roku etc etc)

Another thing that Netflex really depends is the latency (ping). If you go to speedtest.com, the ms value the test calculates is the latency. Even if you have an 8 mbps connection but the latency is huge like 40-50+ ms Netflix will not switch to 720p. (or will keep shifting between 480-720-360p) But even on slow 3-4mbps connection if your latency is <10-15ms, Netflix with very quickly shift to 720p/1080p.

What kind of latency you will get also depends on the DNS you are using .....

ok, i didn't know that the DNS provider can affect your streaming performance. I am using StrongDNS and it is pretty expensive, $5 per month. But I am getting consistent 1080 super HD netflix streaming in my 8 Mbps Airtel connection. Does Smart DNS has the same level of performance?

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

What hardware r u using, WD TV, PS3, Computer Browser ..???

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

PS3 and PC I built....PS3 is connected via wireless, PC is in wired network...

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Yes I thought so of all the hardware PS3 is the only one that is constantly providing 1080p with a decent DNS provider ..

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Roku 3 or Amazon Fire TV are very solid hardware for streaming, I am thinking about it but want to see if Roku is coming with another box this year. Basically I don't need them as PS3 has amazon prime, netflix, hulu plus, but Roku has lots of free channels from US and amazon's fire TV is too good in terms of performance and can be used for gaming as well, both cost around $99....

May be I will try the trail period with Smart DNS and check how the performance is.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Even I am very much interested in Roku, I mostly get 720 on my WD TV Live with UnblockUP and SmartDNS. But I am eager got absolute constant 720/1080p, maybe Roku will be the answer, wish someone with the device can test it.

It will work Sam as for as I know, the only problem is the power for Roku 3 is rated for US. But there are lot of people across the world have tested with 230-240V and unofficially confirmed that it is working without any transformer. Also amazon has some 3rd party adapters for Roku 3 for cheap which support 240V.

Have a look at the Fire TV it has much better config than Roku but the channels are limited but all the usual suspects are there and I am very sure Amazon will add rest soon, recently they closed a deal with HBO to stream some of their old TV series. It has 2GB RAM as compared to 512 in Roku and has voice search which works really well and can be used for gaming. I am still not able to make up my mind on which one to buy and I waiting to see if Roku comes up with a new box this year, even though they have mentioned that streaming boxes are no longer their priority and moving towards integrating Roku apps directly in TV and other devices.

Oh I am talking about Roku Stick, that is MHL compatible meaning it can take power from the MHL compatible HDMI port, like I have in my Epson 2030 ... :)

Fire TV is very much tied to its Amazon ecosystem much like apple TV and I dont like that. TPA like Netflix are treated as second citizens. For me Netflix is the single most important app that needs to be flawless, next is youtube, rest all can still take a back seat. Till time only Roku (stick and 3) and chromcast are said to be one of the best possible media streaming devices when it specifically comes to Netflix and Youtube. I will probably order Roku Stick, even thought its like couple of thousands more then the actual price ....

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Thanks to the input from this post, I managed to stitch together a pack of people to share my Netflix account.

Questions:
1. Will 4 profiles be able to watch at the same time on the $7.99 pricing scheme?
2. Any free DNS services out there - I am using and have bought the 1 year offer on SmartDNSProxy - amazing deal which comes to around Rs.100 per month

Ok, yeah stick is a cheaper option but I am not sure if you will get the same level of performance as Roku and Fire TV and additional RAM can always help with streaming. Yeah true Fire TV is very closely tied with amazon eco system but from the reviews I have seen so far nobody mentioned anything wrong with Netflix and other apps. The only issues is voice search works only for amazon prime but amazon has promised to get that soon. I see only minor difference between roku and fire tv. I almost bought Roku but Fire TV config really made me change my mind, So I am still deliberating.

I am on the cross roads to finalize the provider as well Amazon Prime Vs Netflix. Both are very similar in terms of content except for their exclusive contents. Amazon is little cheaper and if I have prime membership i can rent books for kindle, Netflix has been good to me all these years and never had any issues with them. Hulu plus is better than these guys for TV series...So my combination is going to be Amazon or Netflix and Hulu plus
