Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:)

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Just wondering, does anybody have tried Netflix with ACT/Beam broadband. I can see they are providing speed of 25 Mbps with decent price but lots of people are whinning about their ping to USA servers which is only 4-5 Mbps.

So wondering anyone from here have tried the combo. If yes how is the quality of Netflix, do you get HD in your device ?

Hi Krish199,

I use precisely the same combination. While I do get good quality HD at times, it remains erratic with the quality swinging widely. One would think that at 25 Mbps, this ought not to be the case.

One needs to use DHCP setting and not PPPOE. This necessitates logging in every 24 hours as otherwise the connection is dropped.

Trust this helps.

Hi Jayant, thanks for your valuable input.

Now to all who are using Netflix in various devices, I have a question. When you say you are getting HD on your device is it 720p or 1080p? I am asking this because I have not been able to achieve 1080p by any means in any of my devices. I have a decent 8 Mbps connection of airtel. But Most I can see is the option for 3000 kbps bitrate in Netflix. Its not showing beyond that.

I tried it in Ipad, Laptop and Apple TV. Beside laptop I was not able to manually select bitrate ( where the highest is 3000) in any of the devices but when I am running "Example Short 23.976" I am getting 3000 kbps in all my devices which is indeed 720p.

Now who are claiming they are getting HD( or FullHD), can you confirm whether its 720p or 1080p ? Thanks in advance.

Hello all
I was also told about netflix by my friend so I tried it

Biggest issue I have is that I have a 1 mbps connection

Wanted to know is it possible to buffer the whole movie at maximuk bitrate allowed by netflix while keeping movie paused. Like we did it for youtube when it supported it?

If only its possible then I feel I should pay money for it else with my internet connection video is pathetic resoluyion wise and is very erratic (gets fast forwarded or becomes slow randomly)

Thanks in advance

Let me clear few facts here for Netflix. With the experience I have with netflix, its very very stringent when it comes to bandwidth and latency. From here in India it severely depends on the DNS service you are using and the device you are playing Netflix on. (even if you have a good 8mbps connection, like I have)

Despite of this, most of the time you will get 720p (or 480p) and not 1080p, (only on Devices and not browser) that too if the combination fits the ISP geolocation. For example from here on Airtel 8mbps connection, I only get 720p with UnblockUS on WDTV Live. Occasionally I get 1080p, like on Prison Break I got 1080p for almost the entire season. If I use any other DNS service I hardly cross 420 and on some its even poorer.

BUT

On laptop/Browser I get 720p easily on any DNS service. If I dont get it at Auto mode I select manual and slowly increase the bitrate to 2500kbps and mostly it says there. You cannot manually select the birtare on any other device. Its only on the browser you can do that.

No, again let me clear another fact, Netflix does not work like youtube, where it buffers the video to an extent and then keep buffering as the video progresses. Netflix, does buffer yes but its on run time basis, (only when video plays ..... Netflix will stop buffering if you pause the video.:)) and it monitors the latency like plague ... :D, if there is a fraction of latency loss, Netflix switches the buffering to a lower bitrate (and would take its own sweet time to get back to higher one). This is not always benificial actually. Specially on devices like WD TV, roku etc, where it keeps jumping from 720p to 480p to 360p to 720p to 480p ....so on and so forth.....

Unlocator is no longer free and has gone paid. Guess no free services are left. So i need to take up a subscription, any suggestions guys which provider is giving cheap and best service. Would like to go for a monthly plan to test the same out.

I personally can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p netflix streams on either the 65" LCD or 120" PJ. Have the same 8mhos airtel connection and the Only device which got me 1080p super HD consistently was my ps3 and I only know this coz it displayed the current resolution. Otherwise I'd have no idea if it was 720 or 1080p. But my ps3 died a couple of months ago and using the 360 I'm lucky if I get a steady 480p stream. The low quality combined with ridiculously slow 360 interface and myself getting busy with work and other stuff have resulted in me not even using my netflix subscription for almost two months now.

If you have or can get your hands on a ps3 (borrow from a friend) I'd definitely recommend you give it a try. With the ps3 it didn't even matter which DNS service I was using. It was 1080p most of the times and dipped down to 720p only at worst and that too extremely rarely.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

I agree on the same , was watching netflix on WD tv live for a long time but it never gave 1080p on netflix. Post buying the sony bluray player s5100 I am watching netflix in 1080p also it is showing 3d titles. So if you want the best resolution would recommend to use Sony PS3 or Bluray player for watching netflix in full hd.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

I tried my level best to get a PS3 as cheap as possible, but could not get less than 11-12K and I didnt feel like spending that much just for Netflix, specially when on WDTV Live I am mostly getting 720p. Max I could have spend was like 6-7K and I dont think I will get a PS3 for that low a price .. :D

Thanks Guys for your valuable reply. I don't have a PS3 but I am getting an apple TV next week. Lets see how does that perform. Will let you know.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Yes, i also got an email from unlocator that the beta is expiring and looking for alternative solutions or go for paid services.

Sam: What are you planning to do, any suggestions or alternatives to go for. If paid is the way to go then continue with unlocator or try another provider for a monthly plan.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Unlocator is still working for me .... as of now ....

I think they pulled the plug yesterday.

Has anyone evaluated any other free service that is still available OR should we look at buying one now. The cheapest I found was http://proxydns.co/ which is $10 for 3 months and $35 for a year. Any thoughts?

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Super HD Movies of Netflix stopped in my Apple TV 3 from yesterday. However HD movies of Netflix and HBOgO are fine. I am using Free DNS and net speed is 15mbps.
Net speed is not an issue as superHD movies were coming earlier even with 2mbps.
With the same DNS SuperHD netlix is coming in Sony Media player GS8.
Anybody using ATV3 may please respond.

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Have you tired using alternative DNS. Try smart proxy and see if it works for you. Its not working for me when the s5100 is updating the video options list its not switching to US and showing local content . So i need to look for some alternative option that will work.

Guys, need your inputs as there is no free service currently available and Smart proxy is not working for me. I need to go the the paid route, as there are plenty of options like unblock us, unlocator, unotelly etc. Which one should i go for, need to close this soon as currently i am not able to watch netflix as unlocator went paid.
