Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:
Now to all who are using Netflix in various devices, I have a question. When you say you are getting HD on your device is it 720p or 1080p? I am asking this because I have not been able to achieve 1080p by any means in any of my devices. I have a decent 8 Mbps connection of airtel. But Most I can see is the option for 3000 kbps bitrate in Netflix. Its not showing beyond that.
I tried it in Ipad, Laptop and Apple TV. Beside laptop I was not able to manually select bitrate ( where the highest is 3000) in any of the devices but when I am running "Example Short 23.976" I am getting 3000 kbps in all my devices which is indeed 720p.
Now who are claiming they are getting HD( or FullHD), can you confirm whether its 720p or 1080p ? Thanks in advance.
Let me clear few facts here for Netflix. With the experience I have with netflix, its very very stringent when it comes to bandwidth and latency. From here in India it severely depends on the DNS service you are using and the device you are playing Netflix on. (even if you have a good 8mbps connection, like I have)
Despite of this, most of the time you will get 720p (or 480p) and not 1080p, (only on Devices and not browser) that too if the combination fits the ISP geolocation. For example from here on Airtel 8mbps connection, I only get 720p with UnblockUS on WDTV Live. Occasionally I get 1080p, like on Prison Break I got 1080p for almost the entire season. If I use any other DNS service I hardly cross 420 and on some its even poorer.
BUT
On laptop/Browser I get 720p easily on any DNS service. If I dont get it at Auto mode I select manual and slowly increase the bitrate to 2500kbps and mostly it says there. You cannot manually select the birtare on any other device. Its only on the browser you can do that.
Hello all
I was also told about netflix by my friend so I tried it
Biggest issue I have is that I have a 1 mbps connection
Wanted to know is it possible to buffer the whole movie at maximuk bitrate allowed by netflix while keeping movie paused. Like we did it for youtube when it supported it?
If only its possible then I feel I should pay money for it else with my internet connection video is pathetic resoluyion wise and is very erratic (gets fast forwarded or becomes slow randomly)
Thanks in advance
No, again let me clear another fact, Netflix does not work like youtube, where it buffers the video to an extent and then keep buffering as the video progresses. Netflix, does buffer yes
but its on run time basis, (only when video plays .....
Netflix will stop buffering if you pause the video.
) and it monitors the latency like plague ...
, if there is a fraction of latency loss, Netflix switches the buffering to a lower bitrate (and would take its own sweet time to get back to higher one). This is not always benificial actually. Specially on devices like WD TV, roku etc, where it keeps jumping from 720p to 480p to 360p to 720p to 480p ....so on and so forth.....
