Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as wel...

I am facing issue since morning as Netflix is not working for me. I am using airtel +smartdnsproxy. It's not working in any of my devices. Any luck for others ?

I have airtel and use smartdnsproxy...working fine..just checked. One observation..even though the router had not rebooted , I still had to register the ip again. Try registering ip again.

Friends ..... Does Amazon Instant Video work with these DNS services. I remember it used to. Today just like that I gave it a try and it did not... Says "This video isn't available due to geographical licensing restrictions" ... has anyone recently tried Amazon Prime video, and on which DNS ..... is it working for anyone out there.

Smartdnsproxy seems to be having a 24 hour sale with 70% off 24 months subscription in case anyone's interested. Turns out to be $35 for 2 years.

I personally am still sticking with adfree time though. Very reasonable pricing, great performance and no long term commitment required.

No proxy nothing needed, change DNS and you are good to go, at least works for me from appletv over airtel

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Yeah, watching Netflix in India (or anywhere else) is pretty easy but I prefer using a DNS service rather than the VPN option because it's a lot quicker. I've managed to watch Netflix in India with a 2Mb/sec line and it worked fine albeit not in HD. The DNS solution I use is outlined here: Netflix India - How to Watch Netflix in India | Flexit - How To Watch Netflix In South Africa

Is anyone using Fire TV? I am not able to use Netflix at all on Fire TV. I get the login page and Netflix crashes after the login details are entered.

So you ultimately bought fire TV after all ....... well not many users here on forum ..... try fire TV forums ....

Finally gave up and bought an Apple TV for ? 6700 on ebay this October. Considered everything from chromecast to roku to wdtv but ATV seemed like the simplest and easiest solution. Been meaning to get one for well over a year now but was waiting for an updated version. But with the PS3 and 360 dying thanks to the long hours they were used for Netflix, it didn't seem worth it to wait anymore. Worst case scenario, I sell this one off for 2-3k loss and buy the new version if/when it shows up.

Took minimal effort to set it up and get netflix running on it. Takes about 30 seconds to boot up for the first time. After that it never shuts off. Simply goes to sleep after a specified period of time and gets back up (continuing exactly where it was before it went to sleep) within a couple of seconds when ever you hit the button on the remote. Super convenient!

Netflix performance is great as well. Takes 5-10 seconds average before the video is up and running. It starts at 480p pretty consistently (compared to xbox and PS3 which started at ~240p more often than not). Also the video jumps to 720p within 10-15 seconds max. Goes to full hd a few seconds after that though I'm never sure as it's pretty hard to tell the diff between netflix' 720 and 1080p. Anyways, the PQ is as good, if not better than it was with PS3 and its a Lot faster compared to both the PS3 and 360.

The tiny remote it came with didnt seem like much at first but turned out great. The build quality is superb. It's definitely the best looking remote I've ever used. Thought it being so slim will make it uncomfortable but it worked very decently. If anything, it being so slim turned out a positive in real life use. It goes straight into my shirt pocket once Ive started the video on netflix so no more looking for it among half a dozen remotes lying around me when I'm watching TV. The lack of buttons doesn't hinder it in any way either. Though I do wish there was some way to control the volume using ATV remote itself.

Another great thing about netflix on ATV is fast forwarding. I can be quite impatient some times when there's not much going on in the movie/show. While you can skip ahead a minute or more with netflix on other devices too, you can't actually fast forward. On the ATV, ff works like it does on the tatasky plus (or your old VCRs if you remember using one). 2x mode gives you a very smooth video running twice as fast so you can go through the scene in half the time while still making sure you didn't miss anything. It works perfectly as if the video was hosted on a local drive without ever needing to stop for buffering. Not even when you eventually play the video in normal speed again. Fast forwarding at 4x and 8x speeds too work well enough except it now pauses for a few seconds to buffer whenever you play the movie at normal speed again.

Youtube works great too. The fast forwarding works here too but unlike netflix, youtube requires you to have the video buffered quite a bit before you can use it. Also, if you reach the end of buffered part of the video, it'll stop and re buffer before you can FF or even play the video. Just goes to show how great netflix is at streaming video compared to even an industry leading giant like youtube.

Another great thing is the subtitles. Maybe I missed it but I couldn't find any way to change the subtitles color on either the xbox or PS3. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that in ATV, not only can you change the color to your liking but also, the size, style, font (though only 5 options), highlights and even the transparency levels of text and/or highlights. For those that prefer/need the subs, these options really help a lot.

Not everything's rosy in the walled garden though. ATV has its issues too. The interface is pretty dated and needs a facelift. It looks nice and works well enough but just not what I'd expect from apple in 2014. Also, the neflix app sometimes acts funny and won't play some of the videos giving me auth errors saying the content is unavailable while the same video works perfectly on my iPad. A hard restart of Apple TV fixes the problem though. And if it still doesn't work, I can always play the video on ipad and AirPlay it on AppleTV.

Overall, I'd totally recommend the Apple TV for netflix and especially if you own an iPhone/iPad. The only regret I have is why the hell did I wait this long and didn't get it two years ago!

There is an update at the end ...

Update: Netflix tells us that there's been "no change" in the way it handles VPNs, so you shouldn't have to worry about the company getting tough any time soon. With that said, these blocking errors started showing up in the past few weeks, so it's not clear what would have prompted them

so not to worry too much as of now ....

Great to see that somebody other then me is also using appleTV. Using is for 10 mnths now.Once you start using it there is no turning back. The best thing about apple TV is that it gets the video in HD mode within 10-15 sec. I dont know what and how they are doing this but its quite fascinating.

I got the apple TV from US and I got apps like History TV, HBO Go and those are working seemlessly.Do you see those apps as well ?

Feel free to ask anything about ATV anytime

Re: Netflix, my experience...amazing service!!! can be accessed from INDIA as well..:

Good thread and made for a long, but definitely interesting reading.

I'm already on a shared plan or I would jump in with the other Netflix family members.

I have for the most part used a PS3 for streaming, both Netflix and Amazon Prime, but of late have been moving things to a HTPC and "smart" router based setup and going wireless for the entire house.

PS3 has been excellent for Netflix, no complaints, but after using various devices like Amazon Fire Stick (not Amazon Fire TV), Chromecast, HTPC + Plex, WDTV, Apple TV, the best of the lot is definitely Roku 3. Nothing comes close in terms of the available channels or options to stream pretty much anything... even music. I have a partial wireless setup for music (AVR + ethernet or simply a SoundDock via Bluetooth and I'm looking to move to something like Sonos that works on wifi and not the limited Bluetooth) and I listen to a lot of radio in the background and the entire night and there again Roku shines the best. I have iTunes, and when it works, it works very well, but it also buffers and stutters on days, that's even on my 50 mbps line. The only alternative (if you can have it) is Chromecast and Songza, I really love the curated music on Songza, I have discovered tons of new music and artists this way. Spotify and TuneIn are the next best options for music streaming.

Roku pretty much kills it for streaming (even wireless streaming with dual band wireless) and for all forms of media like movies, TV serials, music, news, etc. The PS3 is no slouch and has been the mainstay of my HTPC, gaming and streaming for a long time, but after I used Roku at a friend's, the ease, the simplicity and the choices simply win you over. And having tried tons of wireless streaming options from smartphones, tablets, phablets, smart TVs, etc. I've never had dropped connectivity on my PS3 (streaming HD movies or even radio) and the same goes for the Roku, that I used for a week at my home. Even the iPad stutters and buffers on occasion, especially for the radio (very puzzling considering my ISP speeds and my network is built on a dual band 802.11ac router or maybe Apple does not like giving free radio), but end of the day you want uninterrupted streaming and for that both the PS3 and Roku 3 win hands down.

The Amazon Fire Stick is also very good, and extremely fast, my only complaint is it does not have all the content I watch on Netflix, but nonetheless considering the voice control on Amazon Fire TV or the Fire Stick with the Android App, its makes a good option too... but I've not tested extensively like the Roku 3 or my PS3.

Coming to ISP, I'm lucky to have Beam and a 50 mbps line that pretty much equals what I get in the US so no complaints there.

I have also been a StrongVPN user for donkey's years and never had any issues with it. Speeds are excellent and while I've tried StrongDNS (got a free trial as a VPN user), I find having a US IP (without no limitation in speeds) is a much better prospect than using DNS for accessing channels. If you are in the market for a VPN do check out StrongVPN. They have excellent packages for either US or Europe (multiple cities) and excellent online support 24/7. TunnelBear is another good VPN service and it plays well with both Android and IOS devices.

Hello guys, I was sharing Netflix with 2 other friends and one has dropped out now since he has moved homes and his internet speeds aren't great.

Is anyone interested in sharing the connection? Drop me a PM if interested - I get a bill of around 530 every month - shared by 3 people it is just Rs.176.
