new blu ray player under 12k

What is the difference between Sony BDP S490 & S4100 ?
How is Samsung BD-F6500? It has inbuilt WiFi.
I am currently using LG BD550 and thinking of upgrading to a 3d one. Offer on Sony is good. Does Sony play almost all formats via external HDD?

Two diff are there between 490 and 4100

DTS master encoding is 5.1 ch for 490 , 2.1 ch for 4100.
4100 has 4k pass through these are diff.

Imo you can go bdp s-490 it is very good ,i'm using it.PQ and scaling both are good.
IT has ethernet connector also. Even samsung bd-f6500 has Inbuilt wifi , we should wifi router, in router you have lan connection. You can connect using cable also s-490 has.
it plays mkv,h264 ; but divx im not sure.

Hello Experts,
I'm planning to go for SONY BDP-S4100, costing around 10K, free (5 title & HDMI). Is it worth. Is it region free, can i play any CD, DVD & Bluray (Pirated). Does it USB port support format like .vob, .flv etc. Cos i just purchase Sony W800A & those format are not supported with it.

Hi Friends

I have a denon AVR1513 with diamond 10.1 speakers.I don't have a 3D TV. Planning to add centre and surround post upgrading my Player.

I would like to buy a good bluray player to get the bset out of my setup.

I am confused about the 3 models.

1. Pioneer 450
2. Panasonic 220
3. Sony 490

Does the pioneer twin HDMI really add value?. can we have notifiable differrence between pioneer and the rest. Ready to invest if it really makes the difference.

I more inclined towards panasonic or pioneer.

Please suggest. Thanks in advance.

The BDT200 is available on ebay.in for 8,700 and in hifimart for 10,990.

I am puzzled by one thing. This BDP is quoted for 8,700 AND 9,700 by the same seller (grand_deal) on ebay. Now how does that happen?

Sony BDP 4100 is NOT region free. If you re buying this in India, it will be locked to region C blu rays.

What does 4K pass through mean? Does it have any real advantage - given that there is hardly any 4K content available.

4K is future resolutions like we came to know about 1080p full HD in past.So 4k pass through is important if you plan to use same product for next 4 years. It can only send 4k & may not upscale. Some 4K discs & payers are coming in market but not in masses.

Hi Buddy ,

First a fall, congratz on ur purchase... :clapping:

My suggestions are
Pioneer 150 cost around 7-8K in grey market.
Panasonic BDP-230 -11K with 1 yr warranty
Sony BDP 490 under 10K

Regarding your region free doubt. I have a question. How ur gonna buy ur blu ray disc ? original or pirated or imported ?

Keep it simple for blu ray codes
1. NA & SA - Region A
2. Europe and UK - Region B
3. Asia pacific & ME - Region C

As manzb told, you can consider panny to make it region free, because u ll never have the problem of getting a regional error. I suffered tat many times and got irritated

Pioneer BDP 150 is a good option....

Actually buddy those region codes are wrong. Here is the right coding

Americas & SE Asia: A
Europe, Africa, Middle East & Australia: B
China, India & Russia: C

Looking for a blu ray player in this budget.

Factors to be considered.

  1. No grey market items.
  2. Have a large collection of region 1 dvds which I brought back after moving back from the US and these should be playable.
  3. The previous point necessitates good up-conversion.
  4. Blu ray region C should be ok as I plan to get discs locally in India.
  5. Wifi is a plus but not a major issue as I can hook up with a LAN cable or use a repeater. (http://www.hifivision.com/television/43546-ex650-wireless-setup.html )

Checked out Panasonic BDT 230, Sony s4100, Samsung E5500 and some others. The Sony is claimed to be dvd region free while others are locked to region 5. I read about the region free hack for E5500.

Stores seem to have limited choices. Today I visited 5 stores and all carried only limited region 5 players. One Sony official store had the BDP s4100 but this was prices at MRP while the same one is about 9900 in Reliance Digital.

Any suggestions ?

:)

all three are good..festival offer will be coming soon ...usually around dashara and diwali....

sony was around 9900 about 20 days back in Bangalore with 5 free bluray 3d...i am not sure about current price....

dvd hack seems to be simple ....Possible with a special remote even if player locked for region so should not be issue ...

however blue ray is not so simple...and for sony blu ray forget about hacking ....

If you have HT system do check dts Hd master audio and dolby digital true hd decoding capability...

Most of the player models you mentioned are more or less equivalent in performance. You should carry a couple of region 1 DVDs with you to test playback.
