Finally after a lotta searching just got myself a 40 inch onida for christmas. Pictures and impressions will come along soon. I must say i never wanted a onida but after looking at the LG jazz LED and samsung 5 series LED this one looked the best to my eye.

From which store u bought it buddy ? My uncle is planning to buy a led before this new year...

Alright time for some pics

And some video playback shots

Ok here goes my attempt to review the TV

Design and build quality
The moment i saw the lcd in the shop i just fell in love with it beautiful glass front and the sexy wavy stand neck. The base is made of glass as well. But thats where the good stuff ends. The build quality is the very shoddy, the screws look like something you would expect to see on cheap malaysian furniture and the plastic back cover seems to be made outta melted down buckets even chinese LCD panels are built better than this. The way the stand attaches to the base (4 screws driven through the acrylic neck) doesnt inspire confidence. The edges are the front glass are not polished properly. Even the sticker for the serial number looks like a school notebook label. There is a definite need for improvement in this area.

Features
Ony 2 HDMI ports on a 60 grand TV??? (Not that i care cuz i dont use HDMI on this TV) Its connectivity options are painfully bare (one component, 2 AV of this one AV shares it audio input with the component input) . There is no motion flow even though the TV it capable of 100hz what this means is if your source is 50hz the TV will not interpolate it to 100hz. It has 2 USB inputs. And yes you can update the firmware through the USB port. Extended video features like noise reduction and flesh tone enhancements are there.

Performance
The lcd takes a good 7 seconds to switch on from standby. The controls are easy to use no unexpected surprises there.

The picture quality out of the box is less than impressive thanks mostly to the excessive sharpening in all the default picture modes. Dynamic contrast does not work when playing back videos from the usb input. The hue setting doesnt work for USB and component sources. But once the screen is calibrated picture quality is one area where the onida simply annihilates the competition (namely the LG LE4600 and samsung 40C5000) which is wierd cause i though onida used samsung panels. It has beautiful blacks (for a edge lit LED LCD) and details are resolved well, skin tones look amazing.

(PLAYON!) is not exactly feature rich for instance if a video has more than one sound track as far as i can work out you cant switch between them, ofcourse this can be remedied with a firmware update but i doubt if one will ever be released further once a change is made to the video setting the image pixelates for about 5 secs. However it played 1080p mkv files flawlessly which is a major thumbs up in my book. So even with its limitations its definitely better than stuff offered by other main stream manufacturers.

Sound quality is nothing to write home about, it lacks body but its right on the money for a entry level LCD panel (i.e) the competion doesnt do any better.

Pricing and conclusion
At 61 grand its 5k less than the samsung asnd 8k less than the LG (at my local dealer) so its fantastic value considering the image quality (which is all i'm looking for). But its still a ONIDA and that takes away a lot of the glamour of owning a LED LCD panel when your friends come around.

Daniel,congrats and great review.
You had compared only LG LE 4600,where as LE 5500 has local dimming and great PQ and its 42 inches too
You are calling this an LCD,is it because it's edge lit?
The actual new year offer on ONIDA led 40 inches is 74 k plus 19.5 k worth another LED tv-22 inches,so isn't 62 a lil expensive?
Not trying to find fault, just MHO
Will the wall mount be free?
Am also looking for a flat pannel for long, your review has inspired confidence, all along was thinking of going for LE5500-LG
Can you please attach pics of SD-DTH??
Is the video play back-a blue ray or just the DVD?
iS WARRANTY-ONE YEAR??
Is stabilizer needed?
Thanks and congrats

What is the model number???

Well an led is still an LCD just that instead of CCFL it uses LED not real diff except the power consumption is way lower on the led and its thinner. The 22 inch one retails for 14k here so its 75k-14k that was the price i got it at. The LE 5500 does have local dimming but it is the cheapest local dimming model so obviously a lotta corners have been cut what this means is the picture quality is not so great, irregular backlighting and so on...... so i avoided it like the plague. I have compared the onida it to other similar tv's. So unless you have a lac to spend (which i dint have didnt wanna either lol) an edge lit led is the best bet. Video playback is 1080p mkv through the USB port.

The LG LE5500 cant hold a candle to plain edge lit panels made by samsung IMHO the LE8500 on the other hand is a totally different story. It does only one thing right and that is deep blacks but if thats what your looking for the panasonic 42inch Full HD plasma range is always there. The LE5500 limitations become painfully clear when connected to the computer and playing games, there is a lot of jerkiness. This is why i chose the onida over the LG. However this is a very personal preference and thus very easy to vary in opinion.
