onkyo 3400 or 3500 for 27000 is a good price..

Hi Abdul, I'm using same cables that come with set 3500, i don't think changing cable make any sound improvement. any body please correct me if I'm wrong. its just my opinion.

I haven't seen the cables that are provided with the 3500, but thin long cables can have a lot of resistance. It's better to get thicker ones. I use 21 strand cables locally purchased for my setup.

I'm very new to the wires etc. Can you please explain me about the resistance thing. I'm currently using the cables which came with Onkyo. Since the length is small to do a setup I plan to buy a new one. Which one should I go for and how much would this cost?
For those who travel to dubai or having friends/relatives there..

Onkyo (HTS3500 + Teac DV280 DVD Player) Package

How much would this translate to in Indian rupees?

Andy, get the DAC cables from hifimart.com. Very vfm. I just ordered 18awg cable 10 meter for Rs.700/-. 16awg is recommended, but they won't fit in my speaker terminal holes.

Well, I'm not an expert in wires either :). I've seen poor cables have even 6-8 ohm DC resistance, Which is same as the impedance of the speakers. This means half the power that your amp generates is wasted as heat in the Wires! Just go to a local electronics market in your place and ask for branded 21 strand speaker cables. The normal cables are usually maroon/brown colored strands once you strip off the insulator. The exposed cable will get oxidised over time. You can also ask for "Tinned" cables of the same type. The difference being the copper strands are coated so that they don't oxidize over time. These cables shouldn't cost you more than Rs 15-20 per meter.

Or if you can afford professional quality cables, you can look for those too. Someone suggested DAC cables above.

Thanks,

Your suggestion on 3500

All - I am planning to buy HT-S3500 from US.

I have few questions and expecting your thoughts...

1. Currently I am using SONY LED BRAVIA (KDL- 46EX520) and my question is will the HT-S3500 from US support my Sony TV.
2. Can I play and watch india made CD, DVD and Blu ray.
3. Do I need to buy any converter to run HT-S3500.

As I heard about india follow PAL format and US follows NTSC format. I am bit worried.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

There wont be any issues related to formats,u need a step-down converter to convert from 220V to 110V though.

Sorry abt the consufion...
I mean, if I connect DVD or Blu ray Disc player to 3500...and try to run any hindi movie...will it run without any issue.

off course........I run even 300mb movie files from my media player with 3400 without any flaw.....the file decoding from flash file or from a disk(original/non original) is complely dvd plaeyer or media players task.....no issue in the avr if it decodes well....about sound there is an option of the player about bitstrem(no decode and send as raw)...

a 3400 or 3500 will play hindi movie smoothly as long as the player able to read it and decodes it correctly

Hi Everyone....I want a good solution to my a/v requirments..(60% Music + 40% Movies).My budget is arround 20-25k
My questions are....
1.Is this Onkyo-s3500 the right answer for this as some doubt its audio quality for Music.
2.It has passive Subwoofer..is this a drwaback. In case i want to upgrade speakers or subwoofer in future,Can I do this.Means will the AVR support any subwoofer/speaker combination?
3.Future-Proof is also one my concern....in coming 5 years or so there shd be no comaptibility issues with device connectivity and formats supported.so is it better to go for AVR+spaekers+blue ray model or is there any less expensive way for a good assembled music system.I m tight on budget.

4.What is the price of Onkyo s3500 in Delhi.Reliance degitial offering 26500/-.

I have Onkyo 3500 and I would say if you want the system primarily for Music then you may have to look out somewhere else. For movies it's great Though.
I saw a Pioneer Model in Reliance before going for Onkyo. However that was priced over 30 so I had to opt out also I think the Pioneer model didn't have support for 3D audio whereas Onkyo had that.

if thinking about future....dont buy this...
start step by step...
buy an 30k avr onkyo/denon/yamaha/maratnz.....
buy 10k-15k.. a pair of bookshelves.....sonodyne/wharfe/polk..
buy sub later
buy surrounds later
buy centre later.....

if want everything now...buy hear denon 1312xp also....onkyo 3500..
just take what you like...both are good.....

yes 3500 for 26k is justified...still bargain 2k more....

another tight buget solution go integrated amp(sonodyne/norge)
10k-15k
buy 2 bookshelves sonodyne/wharfedale.........
although 2 channel stereo but soundwise much better than a onkyo 3500 or denon 1312xp set up...as the supplied speakers are not of good quality........

Thanks for the reply dear.I am thinking of Denon 1312xp or onkyo3500.One thing I want to clear..can I connect a USb drive to Denon 1312xp.As I can see 1612 has USb port but 1312 dont have this. Can we use some connector etc to connect USB.

Denon 1312XP has no usb support. Don't give much importance to usb playback. It will play audio only.

i took audition of onkyo 3300 n 3400.
at any volumes, subwoofers were dancing on floor....and i could hear only thad..thad..thad...sound due to vibration of sw on the floor....i had to press sw hard to the ground to listen to the bass coming out of it, which was also poor....
i think weight wise sw made by onkyo are very lite or got very poor foundation to ground.
this can be solved by either putting rubber matt below sw
or u need to really sit on th subwoofer to stop it from thuddering...LOL.....
