Hi,
Please help me decide..its urgent and want to buy the TV tomorrow - 7th Oct.

I have received the following quote for the Pana plasma's:

P42U30D (Full HD) - 43.5K

P50X30D (HD ready) - 53.5K

Viewing contents will be tv soaps by family and downloaded movies for me. Mostly SD and HD movies at times.

Won't be using blu-rays and will use HDD/USB to play movies.

Question -

1. Does it make sense to invest in a full HD TV?

2. Is the price for 50" P50X30D good? - I was tempted to buy the 50" one after demo. It was more sharper and brighter than the P42U30D.

Awaiting your replies anxiously....many thanks in advance.
Happy Dussera to all :)

icemanz - what is your viewing distance. I have 42 X30, and my viewing distance is 10ft. I feel at 12 feet, SD content looks good, at 10ft its manageable. Viewing distance and the source is important when going for bigger size TV.
As per my demo with 42U30, it had more depth then X30.

What is the viewing distance ?
The 50X30 will require a viewing distance of 12-15 ft minimum to have a good PQ. If size is your criteria, 50X30 is OK. Otherwise, samsung 43D490 is a better TV in the HD ready range.
The panel type of U30 and X30 are same. only the resolution is different.
Whether full HD is required or not is depends on what you plans to watch. Even if you do not required one today, as full HD DTH are gaining popularity, there will be more channels in HD. So if you are planning to retain the TV for many years, it is wise to go for full HD now.

Did you tested the 50 inch LG models ?. I think the PQ is comparable but the prices are lower. (Now the festival season is over the prices are high again).

Where did you get the price ? During the onam days I found the pittappilil digipark at Edappally have the lowest prices. (42K for 42U30)

Thanks God2007.

Viewing distance will be about 9-10 ft. I guess 50" is ruled out then. I will visit pittappillil today.

What is the best price for P42ST30?

Earlier you considered the X30 series which is the lowest end and now now asking about ST30 which is the highest end. What is your budget ?. ( Not teasing. Have an idea of requirements and limitations before start shopping for a TV. The options are mind boggling. ) There are other threads running on ST30. I didn't enquired about it then as it was not in my wish list. If you have connections in Bangalore, you may get 42GT20 at 50-55 K, as per other threads in this forum.

Budget is not a concern. I can go upto 80K. However want a TV with good PQ. I had received a quote of 73.5K for ST30, hence was inquiring.

I have ordered 42U30 for 41K at fridge house, will get delivery tomorrow. Remaining amount I can invest in a good HT.

Thanks for your help and guidance.

Glad to know. During onam fridge house quoted 43K. Now they reduced price. wonderful. Post your views and opinions and some pics for the benefit of others.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
