Hi All,
Need some urgent advice on buying my TV.
some of the aspects
viewing distance is around 7-8 ft
Usage would be mostly tata sky and sometimes movies

after doing some research, I am inclined towards a 42" plasma X30 Panasonic. I am getting a quote of 35k with 3 yr warranty, valid bills etc.
Can you Pl suggest whether it would be a good buy? I am little bothered on the Full HD and HD ready part since I am ignorant about it:)..does it really make a difference with my requirements.

Wud be gratful if you can advise..

Regards

Thats a good price for the 42" X30. If your not gonna watch hd content then go for it. Otherwise you could stretch your budget and get the U30d which is a better tv and full hd.Price last checked was 42k.

Thanks Kevin23..in fact could not wait too much..booked 42x30d today itself..will be delivered tomorrow..
BTW I could not make much difference in 42X30 with other full HD TVs in store, they were kept side by side and the channel displayed was a Full HD channel.

can u share your inputs of the tv you bought

pana X series is some thing like a "work horse". If you are primarily watching SD stuff, that too at a distance of more than 8 feet, you can buy this with out any further reference / review. Other wise please consider U series which are full HD and the 42 inch costs Rs.43-45 K generally. SD stuff is not that better on this model, IMO.

do u mean that even at 8ft distance...U30 is bad than X30?(for SD)

This has to be commented by somebody now using U30. I tried to order one before the onam festival, but my local dealer told me that delivery will be delayed as he has no ready stock. In the showrooms I tested both X30 and U30 with samples (HD &SD) and found that SD is much better in 30. The distance is less than 8ft.

The 8 ft distance mentioned in the post is taken from the distance chart, where it is said that optimum viewing distance of a HD ready TV of 42 inch size is 98 inch. Hence if the distance is more than 8ft, you will not get benefit of 720p. SD broadcast is 576i. So if the contents are SD, and the distance is more than 8ft, 42inch X30 is sufficient.

samsung 43D450 and 43D490 have better pic quality than X30 in my opinion

I too feel the same. After going thru tons of positive reviews about Pana 42X30D, I had almost made up my mind for it. But after having a demo at 2 different locations, I didn't quite like the PQ no matter how hard I tried to convince myself. Sammy 43D450 and LG 42PT350 were far better in terms on PQ (atleast that's what I felt).

I am getting 42X30 at 32,500/-. Please tell me whether it is the best price for it?
As per diwali offer, i am also getting a cordless logitech keyboard free. Please reply soon as i want to book the one tomorrow. :)

Yes, esp if it is in Meerut.

Anything in the range of 31-34 is a good price, because you have to be lucky for 31 to be available in your city.

Ebay has 42x30 for 31,340 right now (free shipping from Hyderabad).

demo the X30 with samsung 43D450 and 43D490 , and then compare.

Panasonic makes the best plasmas but to really be able to experience their breathtaking pic quality you need to go for the higher series with neo pdp panels and infinite black pro..........which would be the VT, V, GT, ST, they are worth every penny. If budget is a constraint I would suggest to go with samsung 43D450/43D490. Samsung is stronger with entry level tv's while panasonic scores with hi end models.

I have demoed all the samsung, panny and lg entry level models and wasn't really impressed with the PQ of them all. No higher segment plasmas were on display here. I think with the right settings for home environment, panny and samsung PQ can be comparable in terms of entry level quality. Panasonic 3 year warranty is difficult to ignore for the price conscious.

Got P42X30D plasma from the ebay deal. Installed and it works well.

It's a fresh piece. Run for 00:45 and switched on 3 times, which is about the time it was running when I checked.

Reflection is not as much an issue as it is made out in the forum. Only if a window is directly opposite, make sure you have thick curtains. Actually, the reflection is just like in CRT, except that now TV area is more so you think that reflection is also more ;)

hey echo
Congrats!!:clapping:
Did the Panasonic guys come to intall the tv ? Also check if the Panasonic guys honour the 3 year warranty, since you bought it from ebay. My friend bought a Panasonic LCD from eBay,but the service center refused to accept the warranty even though my friend got a dealer warranty from ebay! after some heckling they agreed!!
i guess this happens in Goa only!!

Anyway enjoy your tv and post some pics:)
