In above pic, LED have plain cut in circumference towards down where X1 is present. Match belly of LED where circle is cut straight. Long lead towards relays. For small positions of R1-R5 make them vertical mount by bending one leg like'U'.

Sachin / Om,

Thanks for the clarification regarding the LED's. I was stuck at this point as I could not figure out the polarity on the board.

Om, the small positions R1- R5 were very small indeed. Unknowingly but thankfully my mountings for the legs were done in a 'U' shape which was achieved naturally as I tried to push the leads in the holes ;). I was a bit skeptical about this but I'm glad now since you have confirmed that this is the correct and I think probably the only way to mount R1 - R5.

The relays were the easiest to mount / solder.

What is the best way to remove the extra flux? I tried isopropyl alcohol with a brush as suggested by Sachin. It has worked to a decent extent but there is still a considerable amount of flux left on the underside. Any suggestions guys?

Try mixing the isopropyl alcohol with some acetone (google for it).
You can acetone in bangle stores, or cosmetics shops (some nail polish removers).

Ok, the kit which was sent to murali_n was used for my B1 and murali took the task of completing mine. I dont want to go for professional look cabinet ( so murali got one acrylic box which is ready made )and also want very quickly pre to be completed since need one to drive my system on urgent basis since i dont have nothing to drive my monoblocks.

So got the B1 + power supply kit here and all others items sourced locally and it was assembled/soldered by Mr.Syed of Philips. Final cost Rs.4200( B1 + power supply kit) + 2900 ( cabinet + other accessories + professional charges) = Rs.7100.

First impression of listening session is with my Logitech SQ.Touch and looking for impedance matching which i faced earlier with Captn. kit is not there...Thatz it.. Initial impression is removed the harshness from my SQ.Touch-Digital sound, laid back and have good dynamics but with confined imaging and sound stage.. . Hope to give an run for 50hrs or so and will see how it goes with sound stage. Thinking of going for SSP too which i find very good which murali is having, which i can fit in this cabinet.

Here are photos.

Hi srini,

Thanks for your brief write-up and photos, I did not click the photos as I felt that your Nikon DSLR will do more justice than my Canon Digital. It has been proved by the pics.

I also request you to post impressions of this kit, every 15 hours or so, so that people who have built can expect what is in store for them.

Hi Srini,
I am glad you liked it.Cab looks very good.Mr Syed did very professional job, minimum wiring and very neat.

Sachin

Nice work :clapping:

Where do you get "dabbas" like this? I should go out more :D

Quad, thanks for the update. I tried the suggestions given by Sachin and Om and they have worked to a great extent. It took a bit of patience while cleaning as the flux was a bit sticky so I waited a day for it to harden a bit then cleaning was easier.

I will try your IPA + Acetone mix too for a final cleaning. At one point I did think of acetone alone but wasnt sure if it would be a bit strong.

Thanks to Sachin, Om and you this build has been fairly easy and a lot of fun especially for a novice like me in DIY.

Srini, congrats on the build. The cabinet looks very unique I must say and the internal layout and wiring is very very neat indeed and totally uncluttered. Do let us know your listenign impressions from time to time.

Completed the build for Power supply. Please let me know if I messed up something.

Santosh

My long pending shootout between my Music Hall CD25.2 & my tube based Shanling CD100SE happened today due to Pass B1 pre in hand.

My long pending tube rolling is also done for my Shanling Cd player and tried with Philips 12AX7 & Electro harmonix 12AX7 ( gold pin) and there is an massive improvement from the stock tubes presently in player which is unnamed..

Earlier with stock tubes the music is very dull and highs were completely rolled off and thought it is the signature of tubes.. But once stock tube changed music changed from one end to another...;)

The harmony between Pass B1 and both the Cd players were very good. With the change in tube on Shanling it almost nearly performed equally to Music hall which is brilliant in dyanamic and equally beautiful in high and lows. The voice clarity is so good and there is very transparent in voice and music.

I have tried various songs of norah jones / MJ / Madona / Few tamil albums and thinking of retaining the Shanling to maintain an all tube setup with my Thiel since it has improved massively on tube changing.

Not to crash this thread too much, only to end the Pass B1 is very transparent and took the system to next level. Hoping that the imaging i am expecting will be there after some 50 hours or 100 hrs.

Oops.. atlast i thought to have an shootout of Music hall 25.2 integrated player Pre-out against Pass B1 pre... How it performed.. Not to disappoint ...$600 Music hall 25.2 won.. However for the Price and the music output nothing in this price factor can beat the Pass B1.

Few photos and further photos i am spreading out in my sale thread.

These are sealed junction boxes for concealed electrical fitting. Try out in electrical stores first.

They are easily available in Lohar Chawl (Mumbai) in many electric shops. I had got something similar while getting some electric work done on my terrace. You will also find some nice hinged variety with rubber lining which are screwless and therefore convenient to use.

Lohar Chawl - now that makes more sense. But that market is so confusing I usually get hopelessly lost. The only place I know for sure is Mohammedally's for the very best in imported hand tools, and Nimakwala for any type and size of screws, nuts, and bolts. If anyone is going to that part of town, please do yourself a favour a pick up MTC side wire cutter and nose plier. The side cutter is probably the best in the world. There is also an almost equally good side cutter from Goot at the same shop.
