Hello All,
I have 3 External HDDs (Transcend StoreJets 250GB & 320GB and a Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB..all Fat32) and a Philips 3996 DVD Player with a USB port.

Now, I have no problems with either of the Transcends, but the Seagate will just not read. The light comes on but there is nothing on the screen. The files are absolutely the same on all 3..just ascending backups.

Why would this be?

A DVD player's USB port doesn't have much power in it and isn't capable of driving all HDDs. The Seagate probably needs more power than the Transcends. Try using a separate power cable for the HDD and see if it works.

I have the same problem with my Philips DVD player -- it doesn't read any HDD other than the ones that are powered externally. But USB flash drives that require much less power read just fine.

My Samsung LCD TV also has a similar problem. In fact it can't even read USB flash drives if I connect them using a USB extension cable. Connecting the same flash drives directly into the TV's USB port works fine.

The best solution for all this is to get an externally powered HDD.

Their is a USB Y cable available which you can use to play.
