Plasma/LED?? Please help

Playing games on 51D550 is insane, the colors are so rich and natural !! Also 51D550 is capable of led like brightness(approx 160 cd/m2) which no panasonic plasmas(60 cd/m2 for vt20) and even Samsungs own D8000 plasma(90cd/m2) is not capable of producing and is tailor made for games in 3D!! Also its got 18ms input lag!!

You are getting 160 cd/m2 because there is no anti-reflective filter limiting light output. This results in glare. You dont need 160 cd/m2 brightness in the night. During morning light, even with lower brightness, the sets with anti reflective filter produces better picture. Brightness can overcome reflections only so much. That is why high end plasmas come with filters.

Having said that, D550 is a great TV in its own right and its colour reproduction is one of the best (if not the best).

@prankey
post at 3.13 am and that little green light is still shining bright.:clapping:

Any further development on the VT20 chief? Not in a hurry but just keeping myself updated.
Thanks
Gijo
I will check with them if they are ready to give for 65k now as I am convinced that should be the max price as of now and that too with 2x glasses. I saw yesterday that people have got it for as little as 66k from Delhi with 2x glasses, TS+HD, Keyboard, etc. Now that they have a dead stock, they can't expect us to buy for more!

Anyupdate on 58K for PS51D550?
I will update tomorrow. Most probably we will start tomorrow itself ;)

Buy 51D550 without any second thoughts. I am presently playing Assassins Creed Revelations in 3D and the euphoric feeling one gets while standing atop a tower in Constantinople and taking a leap of faith is priceless !!

Its actually 16ms as per Samsung PS51D550 (D550 PDP) Plasma 3D TV Review

I also prefer 51D550 anyday as it serves my purpose very well :D

Any chance of closing at the target price by 19th or 20th of this month? If so can drive down to Bangalore and take delivery of the TV and some other stuff that I have planned.

Will certainly try. Else its anyway available for 68k right now. I would still suggest going with 51D550 if I am able to get a price of around 58k with glasses.

Reflective filters reduce the panel brightness drastically, while they are successful in reducing reflection...its a trade off without any doubt...
We can find many people on internet in forums who are finding the brightness level insufficient on their plasmas in home conditions...and are living with it...
Hence I would rather say, the buying decision will be a personal choice...choosing between less reflection with dull looking display or a relatively bright or natural looking display with moderate reflections...(till companies invent new technology to reduce glare without compromising on display brightness)
full hd 3d Bright panel with moderate reflections without 50Hz issues is not a bad buy i guess...

My take on the reflection issue on 51D550 is that:

*Reflection does exist more than most panasonic plasmas
*BUT with a bit of planning reflection can be COMPLETELY eliminated
*Put thick curtains on the windows and draw them shut while watching tv in mornings
*Place the tv in a strategic position so that the light falling on it is lessened as much as possible
*At night while watching tv, have a separate lamp placed in appropriate position to eliminate reflection and switch that on while watching tv (more of cosy dim lighting is appropriate)

**Using these simple plans does a lot good and you will forget there is any reflection
**Now not having a filter and getting light output of 160cd/m2 really comes into picture while watching 3D :) !! Even at night 3D needs as much brightness as possible and 3D gaming needs even more(i use a different calibration for gaming)
**So by some careful planning one can completely eliminate reflection and then 51D550 literally shines !!:clapping:

light output in 3D is very crucial, I noticed that immediately when i switched on 3D mode and watched avatar, I found the brightness very good on my Panasonic 42UT30 which is stripped off of any antiglare filter (as compared to other models i demod with antiglare filter) ...
even while gaming on 2D mode brightness matters...as many games are already dark to look at...with low brightness the details are difficult to spot while you are completely into the game...
i have a typical one tubelight living room(which is bright)..and i have to say i was surprised to not have any significant glare at night.....at daytime i keep curtains closed...i didnt do anything special so far..but still the reflection is not a hindrance to the viewing experience..

..one month back i had an Lcd with ZERO reflection, but after 3-4 weeks now with new plasma I have easily adjusted to this...

Can you manage to get a 51inch 3d led tv for the same price of 51D550? I guess not. Burn in is not an issue if you pay little attention initially. Reflections are common no matter what TV you buy. Bright lit rooms will have reflection , you can control it with simple paint and curtain efforts. Are you going to be using tv most of Day time or nights? Many are simple questions that you can answer yourself and many will be answered with proper demos during day night conditions. Give it a thought.

thanks for ur reply frd.. i can control reflections and will take due care for that 100 or 200 hrs but i cant do it always.. weekend almost full day & night.. and week days night vewing. and many told plasmas are not for connecting with computer. actually i planned to play games in laptop and tv as a monitor. so i am thinking over it.

You should go ahead with a Samsung plasma as its not bad for a PC connection (just like CRT, ensure no static image for several hours and you are good). Panasonic may not be a good option to get full PC colors as it compresses the color to those used in lossy formats before processing and displaying (strange but truth).
