Hi guys, I want to buy Plasma TV. I visited all shops in my area and here is what i found.

Samsung E470=37000rs
LG PA model =36000 rs
Panasonic x30UD= 3500rs
LG 3d model of plasma E47 series something=44500rs(giving 1 3d glass worth 4000rs) so effective price will be around 40000rs

Panasonic x50= 44500rs
panasonic x50D=49000rs(1 seller is giving 2 3d glass so 8000rs worth rd glass?)

Which is best Plasma TV in the above and which is best according to value for money.
I can go for 50000rs if its really worth it but if you say samsung e400 is not that bad. worth saving 17000rs. i will buy samsung then.
Panasonic x30 model i am thinking cause its 3500rs, is it worth to pay 15000rs more for G15 newer model of panasonic. huge quality difference?

also how do you rate Plasma tv quality, Panasonic > samsung > LG?

Please suggest. Thanks

PS
Reason i am going for plasma TV actually i read a lot threads here. My budget is not 50+ and i want to buy 42" TV as currently i own 29". So don't wanna upgrade 32" LED models..and 42" LED model comes 55000rs+ so plasma is best bet for me according to value for money. Can buy videocon/toshiba led hd tv tho 40" around but dunno if these company are worth to give such money...

First let me congratulate you for making the right choice!!!. It gives me great pleasure to see a fellow member making the right decision for PLASMA...........you will not regret it.

Let's talk about tv's...........Stick with Panasonic / Samsung for Plasma. Panasonic does very well in the top tier while Samsung might be better with entry level plasma tv's. Here are my suggestions for Panasonic:

Panasonic 2012 models : X50, XT50, UT50, ST50, GT50, VT50
Panasonic 2011 models : ST30, GT30, VT30

I would not recommend X20, X30, U20, U30, UT30. If you want to go with Panasonic X and U series, suggest to go with the current 2012 models. Also compare with Samsung 43E490..........a better performer than Panasonic X50 as per latest review by cnet.

Go for X50. I have had it for 3 months now .It is totally worth it.
I think better i buy XT50D cause price difference is 5000rs and i get 3D beside 4000rs around glass free so XT50D model effective cost will be same as X50.

Looks like no love for LG plasma :)

So from above comments it seems either samsung or panasonic.

What about samsung E470 model, 36000rs around. I don't need 3D as must(only in case if i go X50 then would prefer XT50D).

43E490 price is around XT50D.

So if picture quality difference is not much between E470 and 43E490/XT50D, i would like to go E470. (also don't need many other features)

I didn't get to watch E490 model yet so don't know, how good it is as compare to E470 or XT50D.

Are you sure that you want to go with plasma? do you have well controlled ambient lighting including external sun glare and internal tubelights/cfls?

hmm Well sun glare is not problem. 1 40w tubelight won't affect much i guess. Thing is i don't have budget 45-50krs+ and i don't wanna buy LCD. LED i can but thats 55000+ 42" full hd(samsung+sony+pana). So plasma is best for money and better in pic quality also...

You can get LG FULL HD LK450 at 37k, Even a single tubelight will affect a lot as plasma sets give mirror like reflection, not to forget the problems of image retention if you watch tv channels etc, check this thread for user proof of image retention: http://www.hifivision.com/televisio...-first-impressions-reviews-tweaks-etc-37.html

plasma is king reagarding picture quality.
if under 40k...go for the samsung semi hd model.
over 50k...go for 54k 50 inch semi hd panasonic model
and no much deifffrenece between semi hd and full hd..as full hd content is original BR disks which will be played very seldom.if you plan to lay BR disks always..
go for full hd panasonic models within 45k 42 inchers..........
if budget is high can try also expensive panasonic ST or GT serieses....TOTALLY WORTH IT.........so awsome
best of luck.
demo with good files.
any surface will reflect a light be it plasma,lcd,lcd-led........dont worry about it much,
a tubelight place change will cost 300 Rs max.........

Yeah tubelight won't be issue. can change position easily.
But now watching that thread etios linked make me worry. I thought after reading here threads LED/LED vs plasma that IR and BI are not issue in current plasma TV models of samsung or panasonic but it seems that it can be issue.

LG 42LK450 is LCD, i don't wanna buy LCD. That was reason to get plasma as LED is costly...

I found at ebay 42' led hd of sony 45000rs but it is without VAT paid bill...so can't take risk.

I will watch SD channels from airtel and dvdrips. not bluerays disks. although bdrips but thats not always.

Damn now i don't know for sure whats best to choose. Sacrifice plasma and get LCD over it or...

IR is no problem, modern plasmas dont have the problem
plus pixel shift is there in modern plasmas.
plus one channel is not played more than 5 hours max.....for IR you have to keep a static image for 3 day or more continuous...
first 200 hours 1st zoom and low brightness.low contrast....thats it.
and IR is talked much.......no member is having a IR problem,

I bought LCD in super hurry..and after that watching plasma pictures I was so frustrated...I bought a pana semi hd plasma for my parents...that is only used for channels,,,no problem till date

picture quality matters a lot.

dont worry about it.pana is offering 3 years panel warranty...they are so confident about IR not happening..they are providing it.

If you're looking for a cheap TV 42 inches or larger, there are a lot of advantages to buying a plasma instead of an LCD.
The biggest is picture quality: an LCD is typically not able to reproduce the black levels and contrast of an equivalently priced plasma, and plasma always trounces LCD for viewing angle and uniformity. Entry-level 720p plasmas are also more energy-efficient than more expensive 1080p plasmas, and while they use a lot more power than LCDs, they still only cost about $20 to $30 per year to run.

Those were actual plasma owners struggling with Image retention on modern plasma sets, so that's solid proof that image retention will be a problem unless you care for it like a small puppy, plasma sets are on their way out and their is good reason for it, also no matter where you shift tubelight, the ambient light will still cause lot of reflections.

And not to forget, no company covers image retention in warranty as they are also confident that it will happen.

My suggestion is not to be very choosy with any particular technology. Go for any tv set which satisfies most of your requirements.

After going through this forum, I was all for plasma sets initially. But after demo'ing few models,I changed my decision. I can tell my reasons why I went for LG LCD 42LK450 instead of samsung 43e470/pana x50/ lg pa4250. BTW, X50 was always out of stock wherever I enquired, and LED was out of my budget.

- Black is better in plasma, and more specifically in samsung e470. But I noticed that although the plasma sets produces more black, the picture appears to wash out easily in brighter rooms. I am more used to watching TV in decently bright lit rooms. LK450 comes up with Expert picture settings menu which includes 10 point colour management settings. Once I adjusted the settings as per the values suggested in CNET site, the picture quality has improved and I don't see the black level as an issue.

- Didn't want to take special care of the tv set during initial break-in period. Also since you mentioned you got Airtel DTH, check with other plasma owners whether you can make Airtel's bright red logo disappear completely from the screen by adjusting the zoom settings.

- e470 doesn't support 1TB hard disk as suggested by some in this forum, also have trouble playing some video formats. Even the X50 supports fewer video formats compared to XT50.

- Reflections are much more in these plasma sets, I have my room lights opposite to the tv wall and that was a concern.

- No VGA port in e470, wanted this for connecting laptops. Also was bit worried about IR when using laptops/playing games.

- Felt the sound better in LG LCD model, and I didn't have any plans to go for external speakers.

So go for any model which ticks most of your check marks...Your eyes will very quickly adjust to the perfections and imperfections of the set, and you will start loving your new set...!!!

hmm damn...gotta check LG 42" lcd, shop is not far from my house. but i never checked any LCD yet as i wasn't planning to buy it...
Its really hard now lol, first i was sure... and i narrowed it down to samsung e470/e490 to x50/xt50

Stick with plasma if you can control light..remember black level is the most important thing in terms of pic quality..if black-level is not black other color will lose its accuracy.
Better go with a sony/samsung leds where most of the sony leds offer better black level than any led/lcds of other companies.
Will tell you to stay away from IPS panel(panel used by lg/panasonic) as you will know the blacks is worst in there and also contrast ratio is very low compared to sony/samsung.
Check reviews and make informed decision.

well IR occurs if you left same image or icon for 5-6 hours right? i think thats not gonna happen in my case. Nobody at my home use tv for same channel till 5-6 hours. If image stay 1-2 hour, still IR can happen?
Airtel logo changes position everytime change channel so that is also not gonna be issue.
Only thing make me worry is how much ambient light affect plasma. I have 1 tubelight and i can use cfl instead it. low watt opposite direction of plasma. Is this still affect plasma quality this much so plasma will give wash out image? in day i have 1 window and its covered with curtain. not total dark due to it in my room but not brightness also. How much dark we are talking here? i read that u don't need completely dark room for plasma(ofc it will be best to enjoy it max). little light won't affect that much i guess?

So i think, i will finally go with samsung E470 cause its price is less and i don't need 3d. I don't know giving 5-6k more for panasonic x50 is worth? can you guys give any points to lean towards x50 instead e470 and if i go 44k for x50 then e490 is better then x50? so why not go for e490 instead x50? in both way its leaning towards either e470 or e490.
I don't have usb hdd. i will use only simple usb. If i will connect my pc to it, i will do by hdmi as i have GTX260 graphic card with hdmi output. so i don't need vga port.

PS
I checked lg lcd lk450 model. they said its not available due to replaced by cs560 which i searched and found is not that good as lk450 was. lg 42 cs560 price is 45k.

I read that panasonic 2012 model are more brighter like xT50 so due to that panny plasma getting more issue of IR and burn in as compare to samsung. At amazon i found very good words for this LG plasma below...
Lg plasma 3d 42PM4700 is 44000rs with 1 3d glass and wifi dongle included, anyone have it?

I explained about plasma in my home to my family in detail, they kinda don't like any strings attached with it xD. like taking care of it...
Sometime my mind tells don't take a bit risk for IR and burn in and just go for full hd lcd...

I searched more on lcd and i found that there are not many 42" lcd out there. Sony lcd bx450 is 49000rs but very less format support. I don't know atm whats best yet...
kinda confused...gotta buy TV in 5-6 days

Check sony 40EX650,32EX550 and 40EX430...don't buy a tv based on media format playability..it can be resolved by connecting a pc via hdmi/buying a cheap media player.
