Please suggest Plasma TV.

Please suggest a surge protector for my 42XT,PS3 & STB set-up

As far as I know, Belkin seems to be good. The surge protector I use is "Belkin Ultimate series". Though the MRP says it around Rs.2100, you can get it for Rs.1600. There other Belkin models which are smaller than the Ultimate series. There is something called Economic series which is cheaper than Ultimate series.

Well finally guys.
As i said due to some reasons my budget became less around 37K and family declined to buy with dealer warranty TV from ebay. So there was no option left to buy 40" TV for me.
But must need to buy TV as i was getting reimbursement. Went to Showroom which had LG and samsung model. Liked Samsung Eh5000.
So bought 32" Samsung EH5000 at 33k with 50 movie pack(useless basically :P)
Even tho samsung model is direct LED than edge led model of LG 32ls4600, i liked it. LG 32ls4600 was 36500rs here.
Connected with laptop and its working as monitor also nice ^^
Watched 1080p and it is really good.
I compared Samsung EH5000 model to sony ex650, sony pic quality was better but price was also 11000rs more so overall it wasn't worth it for me as my budget was 36-37K.
As i have 29"CRT TV so i will basically use this TV as monitor and play pc games/HD movies on it.

Thanks for everyone.
Very thoughtful purchase. You bought according to your requirement which is superb.

At first make estimate of total input power(in watts) needed by tv,ps3,stb...then divide it by 0.6..you will get VA(volt-Ampere) rating of surge protector u need to buy. But get a surge protector atleast 1.5-2 times that of VA you have calculated.

Hi lake1988.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Generally, most of the surge protector having at least 3 to 4 sockets (minimum) can cater to the total real power (watts) or the total VA of all the hi-fi equipments connected to it. As far as my knowledge goes, even a lower version of a 4 socket surge protector can cater to a continous power of around 1500 watts to 1800 watts. So that case, it can have supply power to a TV, AV receiver, ps3, BD/DVD player and stb. So power requirements will be taken care by most of the 4 socket surge protectors. The main thing to look for a surge protector is the Joule energy it can take or withstand due to powerful voltage surge/spike. Higher the joule, higher the withstand power.

As far as the formula you have arrived at the total VA rating of all the hi-fi equpments, that is really a useful guide for buying either a inverter or a stabilizer. I have seen many posts asking for which stabilizser, what rating, etc. How about coming out with a quick mathematical formula which can be used to decide on what the rating of a stabiliser should be for one's needs ?

Joule=Watt*sec...the instantaneous surge occurs for milisecond-second timing...but I'm not sure if all surge protector are able to withstand power of 1500-1800 w..

With increase of surge timing the energy rating will increase..so go for atleast twice the VA requirement..cause from Joule rating it's difficult to judge the VA requirement.

420 Joule energy rating Belkin E 6 way Surge Protector Spike Buster. How much watt it can take?
I have 2 comps so i guess 800-900 watt total of both with all components, can i hook both to single Surge protector or i need to go higher joule rating?

Can't find any option in menu for checking current firmware tho of EH5000.

I purchased a Panasonic 42 inch Plasma TV model 42ST30D from Sargam Electronics, Rajouri Garden, Delhi. They assured me that the TV is sealed and new unit and Never Used. After Installing I found that the TV has signs of wear on rear. I checked the usage hours of the Set (Thanks to HiFi vision for providing knowledge and awareness :signthankspin:) and it was SHOCKING to found that the TV was used for more that 1300Hrs !!!!
I called up the Sargam guys and they denied initially but confessed later on that this was used as a Demo piece for 6-7 months.
they offered me a discount of 2.5 thousand, ( Sharam nahi aati $#%@ ko :mad:). They finally agreed to refund my full money and took back the TV.
Sharing this fact with all of You guys on Hifi. Please be aware of this. DON'T purchase any thing from SARGAM ELECTRONICS.
Dont buy any 42ST30D Plasma from them they have only one piece left which I returned. The Serial number of Set is QN1310067..
Please share this Serial number with all your friends seeking Panasonic Plasma in Delhi NCR so that any other innocent should not get cheated.
