Post your latest AV purchase(s)......

Not sure if this counts as AV Gear! But a purely aesthetic addition to my setup. Something I have been working towards getting right for a while!

The idea was to get something that can display Spotify/TIDAL - NOW PLAYING screen at all times. I have been working on various prototypes and finally found someone who could put my ideas into practice & execute with perfection :)

The device is a cheapish 10 inch tablet, this turned out to be the optimum size for the Spotify Now Playing screen as it was readable from anywhere in the room. Also the ratio of the album art vs the info below turned out to be the best on a 10 inch tablet.

I have signed into this tablet with a separate ID I created (as this tablet will never be locked). The tablet is set to always on. Spotify now playing screen is Pinned. The tablet has been put on e-reader mode (So it is Black & White - 😍). All apps (except some system apps) are either disabled or uninstalled - so only SPOTIFY is working for now, will add tidal soon.

The frame is teak wood - the back is routed MDF. The tablet can be put in both Landscape or Portrait mode. For my usage - portrait it is!

A few pictures!

Absolutely gorgeous 😍 ...Love it :)

Trust me you can go commercial with this if you can get it to show album art over wifi or a wired LAN for more streaming sites. I would definitely stand in line to buy one :)

That is the purpose - :)

It displays "Now Playing" screen of Spotify at all times as far as it is on the same network. This is one of the beauty of Spotify.

Thanks :)

If there is a way to say load tidal on the tab, such that it auto-switches to show the Tidal app when playing tidal. Then it will be one universal purpose display. But either ways, that doesnt take anything way from how gorgoeus your current iteration is. Thanks for the inspiration, as I always wanted one. Will most likely copy yours....with your kind permission of course :D

The design is open source - please go ahead :)

There is currently no way that I know of - that it automatically moves to Tidal (or any other service) when music source switches. There was a concept somewhere - if I remember correctly based on "Shazam" & RPi, where the system was hearing what was playing and it was pulling album art through some internet metadata library. Not sure if it ever materialised; or it was just a concept.

After all the dissapointment with sub-obtimal Raspberry PI solutions and the 7.9" displays (which you generously gifted me), this solution is absolutely fantastic, loveable and eye-candy. Love this. Apart from using the touch screen to switch to another app, I guess a bluetooth keyboard paired to this should also be able to control it.

You have mentioned so a few times in your posts, that you wanted a proper display for your streaming and tried many options.
Must say you ensure to get it done right what you have set your mind on.
Great job. Like the ports behind too.

Drop dead gorgeous!!!

It would be a killer sell if you could use this screen as a controller for a streamer like a WiiM Pro. I'd be happy to pay for one.

Very, very sexy. Excellent job.

It is being used as a controller - primarily for Wiim :) . For most of the day it is sitting next to me on my desk and I just use this as a controller for Spotify.

I had originally planned to create this as a "pretty looking thing" with a bit of functionality.

However since it has come in to the picture (no pun intended); I end up shuffling it about a lot between my desk as a controller, my office shelf as a "picture frame for Spotify" or our coffee area where the - "occupants of the house or visiting friends" generally gather to take breaks from our routines. It sits next to the coffee machine & anyone can use it to play music either in my office or the HT setup. The "lounge/coffee area" works as a pathway between the HT/Drawing room and my office. So it just works.

Any links?

I have a couple of old iPads at home that I can re-commission for this use. All I need is for it to connect to my streamer and act as a remote control.

This is so elegant. Beautiful. I am surprised no one has commercialised this yet.
This is pretty common for home automation consoles. I have taken bits and pieces from various projects.

Just go on Etsy or Pinterest :) There are some excellent things out there.

What is Etsy? I thought Pinterest was just a place for pictures and images.

I am happy to build one if you can help with some guidance. Thanks.

A few references if anyone is interested :)

With the talented bunch of DIYers here on this forum - a lot of these designs can be made here and maybe even improved upon :) A commercial opportunity waiting :)

My way of going about it was wasteful and expensive :) As we ended up buying a lot of tools like dremel etc. We ended up buying a bunch of different materials like MDF, hardboards, real wood veneer etc etc, including treated teak wood planks from Etsy. All this turned out pretty expensive to be frank. But the smart, resourceful & experienced here can do it better in a fraction of the cost.

I liked 2 of the frames you posted. I never knew a site called ETSY existed till now. I hope it's reliable. I often have to return goods to Amazon because the sellers do not ship the same stuff they advertise. The carpentry part won't be as challenging as the software and hardware to connect the iPad to the Wiim Pro. How does one do that?

Thanks.

Ok what you saw in my case is -
1 - An Honor Pad X8 tablet - with all the programs either force stopped or uninstalled.
2 - The tablet is put in ebook mode - hence B&W.
3 - The programs are either Wiim App, or Spotify App or Tidal App.
4 - App pinning is switched on so the thing stays put.

Spotify is amazing in the sense that if you leave the now playing screen on - the system just keeps it there till you lets say play a new song :)

I dropped my phone number for you on DM as well, if whatsapp is more convenient.

Etsy is a platform similar to Amazon or Flipkart, so the same risk factor associated there as well.
