If you reduce the price of Stabilizer & PS3 from the amount you will get the price of the TV. They are trying to sell as a bundle. Nothing fishy here. You've one year warranty. Also you can buy 2 years extended warranty before the end of 1 year.

I think the bundle is a good offer if you are looking to buy PS3 as well. Else negotiate for the bare TV and include 2 years additional warranty.

Yes, Sony gives 2 years extended warranty which need to be bought separately. I think for 55 inch TV the amount is 10000 Rs.

Is it then a myth that price is fixed in a sony retail showroom? Can we haggle here as well as in a multi-brand showroom?

In a sony showroom the price is fixed. For eg: 42W700B's showroom price is the actual dealer MRP which is 64900. There's some amount in which sony sells the TVs to dealers. Dealers can sell those TVs at any rate but it should not exceed 64900.

hitchhawk,

Thanks. I now get the picture. What Sony means by fixed price is that it is a price above which a TV cannot be sold! Good. Does it mean that I can negotiate for a suitable price in the authorized dealer's showroom too?

I think you won't get any discount in exclusive sony showrooms. If you go to local electronics shop they will give you discounts. These local electronics shops also have an agreement between themselves.

For eg: my TVs dealer MRP was 64900. All the sony exclusive showrooms quoted 64900 with out any discounts. Local electronics shop quoted amount below 64900 and the lowest one was 62000. When I checked that's around 4% discount. The same shops were giving 8% discount from dealer MRP for other brands. I bargained based on 8% discount and bought the TV for 60000. I tried for more but they didn't agree on it. Since this was the best quote I decided to go with it.

In North you will get more discounts compared to South. It can go upto 15-20% on dealer MRP.

I doubt if sellers can sell at any rate...for me, though price agreed was 58K for 700B, Seller still generated the invoice for 64,900...with mention of amount received as 58K....and then they just write "U/E" on the invoice to signify Under Exchange...to my understanding, there is mandate that they cant sell SONY models at below prescribed amounts.

Same logic was also given to me by 1-2 dealers, who were not willing to go down on price...stating "Sir, even if we wish, we cannot sell you SONY at lesser price...else our license may get revoked"...

If you dont mind me dragging this discussion on for a while -- why would sony authorised dealers set up expensive showrooms if they consistently sell the pieces above the price of multi-brand sellers? Is not that a definite way to incur losses?

I was in touch with Reliance Digital, Mangalore. They quote 1 lakh 55 thousand for the package of KDL-55W950A+voltage stabilizer+PS3. They would come down another 8 thousand rupees if I did not want PS3. This price is so attractive that I thought may be they are trying to pass off a display piece.

In that case all sellers have to generate invoice for 64900. But my invoice was generated for 60357 and they gave me another voucher in which a cash discount of 357 was given. Basically this amount is set by the shop. They will tell their sales guys to try to sell at 64900 and even if discount is given it should not be below 60357. In few cases they round off the amount to the nearest 1000.

Sony will revoke the license if they get a complaint that the dealer has sold the TV at a higher price than the MRP. But I doubt whether Sony will revoke the license for selling at a lesser price. I think that the dealers cannot sell at a lesser price because the margin they get from sony will be less compared to other brands if they sell the TVs at high discounts.

I honestly don't know how the exclusive showrooms make profits when the local dealers are selling the TVs at lesser price.

But all the higher end TVs are sold at greater discounts because of less demand in the market coz of high prices or the manufacturers are going to launch new models soon. Not only Sony but also Samsung, LG etc. My colleague bought Samsung 46F7500 3D LED 46 inch (116.8 cm) from Reliance Digital last week. Even though the online price of the TV as listed in samsung website is 145500, Reliance Digital was selling it for 110500 + Sony headphone. Headphone was priced at 12000 Rs. Since he told that he don't need the headphone they sold the TV for 98500 Rs.

hitchhawk,

Thanks. Basically, I dont care how a seller sells something cheap, as long as I get that cheap; but what worries me is I could be getting demo piece!

Thanks again for sharing your views and experience.

Just tell them that you will be checking the usage hours via service menu. If the product is already used you can return it and they will give you new one for the same price.

I am planning to buy LG 47la6910. MRP is: 1,01,900 INR. Hyderabad Croma is quoting 89,000 as final price. Is this the best price or does any other store provide a better price?

Anyway here goes for other members benefit. Flipkart is offering LG PN4500 42 incher at Rs 32,144 and if you have a ICICI, HDFC cards, there is cash back offer of Rs 3,500 in certain EMI schemes on other TVs. For the present TVs are being sold in Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi only.
